hello!!! i am an icelander thank you so much for visiting our country :D i am so glad you enjoyed your stay and iceland's hospitality (and ritz crackers!)
The dynamic lighting in Iceland is really impressive, it looks like they've taken a lot of inspiration from Skyrim in their level design. They could perhaps do with a bit more foliage and to clear up the in-game currency though.
I'm from Iceland. When I went to Germany to meet my girlfriends family I spent hours just staring at the sheer amount of forests along the autobahn. And I may have seemed crazy but the first thing I wanted to do was to go into the forest behind their house. Once they visited Iceland I'm sure they understood.
I've always wanted to go to there, it's always been a place I've been fascinated with They seem like a really cool people, if I could move to anywhere in Europe, then I'd probably choose there :o
@@sandwich2473 you have the means to do pretty much anything. If you really want to make it happen then get a list going of what you need to achieve and start working it off. instead of just living youll be working towards a goal that you chose for yourself. way better than working towards a school degree or something. and if you never make it to iceland then find your own iceland that you can afford to make it to. Dont just say you cant
@@ogonbio8145 it was always a kind of "do this if all ties to where you are just now were to disappear" those ties aren't really ones I'd like to break my family are all super close and tight-nit, we all stick together more or less When I moved into my own place, it was within a kilometer of my parent's place, and my sister's place
Feel like youtube has been hiding this video from me or something. I've seen your Petra, Jordan, and Wadi Rum videos and come back to them sometimes because the commentary is that good. Great video, will be checking out the other iceland vids.
When were you there? I almost just got back from Iceland, I was there from the 3rd to the 8th and saw a bunch of the same stuff you did and even lived RIGHT next to the indoor swimming pool you visited in Reykjavík.
@@kliksphilipthis is such a coincidence dude, I am in Iceland right now, I am coming back today but I arrived on the 10th. Watching your opening shots I was like “wow, I was just there, in the same spot, taking the same photo”. It is super cool that you were in Iceland at the same time 😄the ice cave was the coolest thing I’ve ever visited, worth the walk, and we lucked out because yesterday’s tours were cancelled due to weather, but we had visited the day before yesterday
It’s fun to watch a view of someone about a place you been. All video I could catch my self, yea I been there, yea I done that, oh that’s the best part haha… And so on
Iceland is a great place, I went to it just before COVID hit worldwide, at the start of Janurary 2020. Wanted to see the northern lights, no luck alas, but everything else was great there
glad you enjoyed the stay here in Iceland and your cometary is relaxing as always however i just wanted to point out that we dont have a problem with incest as mention at 4:32 as the origin of that saying is just from a old joke someone made on the internet, and the site u see at 4:38 is just a database of every single icelandic person thats been since essentially settlement and does not exist to combat a problem that dosent exist, however i dont fault you for beliving that since many sites online still say it and tour guides tend to make fun of it. otherwise a great video!
I'm from Australia and i visited Iceland for a whole month in 2016! Iceland is lovely i would love to go again! Also i can pronounce eyjafjallajökull B)
Was that sarcasm at 10:08 saying that the pools would be great if they were privatised? As an Icelander I'm so thankful that they're not privately owned and affordable for everyone, it's probably one of the best things Iceland has going for it imo.
You were in Iceland at the exact same time I was! It’s surreal to see locations in this that I visited a day or two if not same day I saw it. It’s like revisiting! Glad you shared the sentiments I did about the country! Absolutely breathtaking
I visited Iceland myself a few months ago, it’s awesome seeing you visiting a lot of the same places! My favourite part had to be feeding the swans/geese in the centre of Reykjavik (they’ll happily eat out of your hand) :)
Wow, now I actually wanna go to Iceland I was always the kind of guy to just love cold weather's and baths But, I don't really like flying, so maybe I have to get over that somehow lol
Me and my family got stopped by the 2010 eruption when we were supposed to go home to Sweden after vacation in Thailand. We flew for a tiny bit and then had to most of it by buss, we did get to stay for free in Greece for a few days which was kinda cool, before we got to continue on the busses untill the skies were clear enough for us to quickly fly over the Baltic sea.
I used to date a girl who studied nordic languages and cultures at university, fell love with Icelandic language, then moved there and has been living there for like 8 years. I've heard it's a wonderful place.
Actually, Iceland used to be covered with trees. 25% to 40% covered in trees. Then humans happened. They didn't use it to build houses because they used it all for building boats and turning into charcoal. And sometimes just removed it to make room for more livestock. Unfortunately the whole deforestation thing has by now caused huge amounts of topsoil to erode away.
Why didn't you mention the name of eyjafjallajökull? In Finland the name was a big joke for a while because part of it spells a synonym for penis. We all forgetting to draw it on the map is a bit surprising to a nordic person, since it's part of the nordic tribes in my eyes. Similar language and flag as sweden, norway and denmark.
Always wondered why the Icelandic people we met on a walk were impressed by the trees height. All the foliage and wildlife in Dorset seemed extremely mid-tier/unnoteworthy to me, they weren't exactly giant redwoods, so was definitely confusing at the time.
I got back from my holiday in Iceland today. Was wondering why they use so much corrugated metal on their buildings. Did you do the south coast tour as well as the golden circle?
The corrugated metal is used to protect the buildings for water leakage and is probably the best protection for the heavy rainy storms every winter, it can sometimes rain non-stop for 12 months. Snow is rare in the south part of Iceland.
Yoo im glad you enjoyed the country im from! And even more happy that you were so fond of it :) Would've been amazing to meet you passing by but i sense you were majority of your trip down south where all the cool stuff is^^" As someone who lives further north of iceland, it's quite the burden for us to goto Reykjavik, and most dont enjoy it due to taking it's time getting there x) But it's the only place for miles with cinemas and good shops, so it's a must :P Keep up the nice vids, man!
As someone from Iceland, kinda nodding that you mentioned the dangers are explained (mainly for the beach), yet people aren't going after them, I think 2-3+ people died in 2019? Wave swallowed them and couldn't rescue them/too dangerous and yes, they were tourists, definitely got the 'where is the best place to see the northern lights?' question dozen of times in the winter when I worked at a gas station
Such a fantastic country and Reykjavík is a wonderful place. Highly recommended for all to visit, in either the winter to see the stunning frozen waterfalls and glaciers or in the summer to see what lies beneath the snow and ice. The lava caves were a real highlight and the local food tours.
