As hard as my recovery was. I do not regret my surgery. My heaviest 270lbs. Currently, 9 months post op and I'm 150lbs. Very happy and I'm going to try my hardest to maintain my weight loss.

I will never regret my surgery today I’m so thankful I did it and still seems like a dream came true … I love the person I’m today I really needed this tool to lose the weight I had I was 287 pounds 1 yr later I’m 153 and my goal is getting to 150 After this I’m still following up with the diet docs to maintain the weight goal and not go up or down anymore

I had a sleeve done in Feb 2016, started at 270, lost 135 (exactly half the weight) Gained 70 during pregnancy(2020). Now at 175ish, trying to get back down to 140ish. This surgery is NO JOKE, the body dysmorphia is real. In my case, I wanted to get smaller and smaller for fear of gaining weight again. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Thank u for posting this. I’m a little over 5 months post vsg and I lost 66 pounds Sw 223 CW: 157 which to some isn’t a lot but def started having similar thoughts about trying to slow it down/ and or after another 10 pounds try to gain some back but the healthy way. I don’t regret getting it at all! It’s a double edge sword though, I’m scared to get over 175 again but scared to be under 145-150ish.

Of course, thank you for watching and sharing your experience! It’s definitely a double edged sword… but we just have to make the best of our situations, especially since all of our bodies takes the process differently. Hi Michelle , I weigh around the same as your SW and am considering VSG. I carry my weight mainly in my thighs so some people have asked me why I am considering surgery. But my BMI is 39. How tall are you? Also how are you doing and feeling now ?

I thank you soooo much for speaking on the “not wanting to be skinny just wanting to be healthier”, I know society wants everyone to be slim/small but that’s NEVER been my stature and I’ve never seen it for myself. I’m completely comfortable with being a plus size girl, I just want to shed a few pounds and be a little more energetic & healthier. I considered weight loss surgery as an option but my biggest fear is losing TOO MUCH weight and not being able to do anything about it yet I never hear anyone speak on that part. That’s the main thing deterring me from surgery, so I’m trying hard to lose weight the natural way and hopefully with help of some sort of dietician prescription. Your video has helped confirm that feeling for me, I’ve been looking for someone with these sentiments but never heard anyone speak on it. Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us! ❤❤❤

Hey lovely sorry I'm late to replying but thanks for sharing your views. This is a taboo topic that many tend to not speak on especially after having weight loss surgery but we have to be true to ourselves and not get sucked into the 'NORMS" that society TRIES to create! We're made of different shapes and sizes and that doesn't make us any less human than the next. I hope you find a good balance along your journey... I'm still working to find mine! 😉

In 2013 I found out that I have thyroid disease when I went to a clinic for a sinus infection. It has been a roller-coaster since then. I grew 2 large tumors. They were benign and I had the radioactive iodine treatment. It was unsuccessful. A year later in 2016, I had my thyroid and over 15 tumors removed. I have gained so much weight since. I recently switched Endocrinologist. I have gone from 311 to 270 in 4 months. I am considering getting the sleeve. I also now have sleep apnea. The tissue in my airway is damaged due to having the tumors being removed. The tissue drops down. So I am losing oxygen when I sleep. I'm miserable. I haven't felt like me in years.

Thank you for your honesty, I had mine in 9weeks ago and watched many vids prior and now and one thing I don't want to do which I have seen is go to far. I have no desire to be a size 6 my curves matter, so I'm really trying to not go past my goal so been watching fitness and exercise channels about the calorie deficit and what to do for maintenance and to put on along side going gym 4times a week to try what I can. So I can understand it getting out of control personally as it is a personal experience and feeling comfortable in your own skin. At the moment overall I feel great but there are some days I look in the mirror and how I feel is not how I look and yes I have lost weight I have never lost since putting it on but I feel better than I look and that can really mess with my head. It's true what they say about the hardest battle being in your head.

I completely understand your body dismorphia. I had lost about 40lbs one year and the thing that got me was all of the reactions I received from people in my life. The shocking looks of concern and comments saying stop losing, you’re getting too thin. You look sick! It made me so ashamed that I started gaining weight so I had a place to hide. Now I’m in the process of getting VSG. I’m worried that the shame will happen again. Thank you for sharing!

Hi Lady, thanks for sharing your experience ❣️ Body dysmorphia is so real and tough to deal with. I can completely understand why you’re worried you might go thru that shame again… I’d say you have the upper hand in this situation. You’ve dealt with it before so now you can mentally prepare for change and maybe focus on specific workouts / toning prior to getting surgery.

@hot_nuh_rass 2 года назад
I’m getting a lot of those comments now but I have to remind myself that I got comments from the same ppl when I was bigger. You can’t please all of the people all of the time. At this point I’m learning to be kind to myself and that I can’t go all my life being unhappy with myself. I lost my shape along with the weight and now I know that’s ok. I’m happy healthy and moving around easily, no health concerns so that’s enough. I’m switching from negative self talk to finding a clothing style that suits me and this look. I hope you get to where they don’t matter. Love and light 💕

It seems you need to be HAPPY within before you do this coz all the money, therapy, doctors can't help if in the end you'll be sad you're too skinny and then start gaining again to an unhealthy place and then when trying to to remedy that you're too busy fearing you'll be too skinny.... Sounds like you still need some internal care in order to be at a healthy place permanently.
@BrittneyGiselle
@BrittneyGiselle Год назад
Yes one has to definitely be happy within, which is why therapy is important. As for myself, I took all the proper steps, and was always honest about my mindset, which is why I decided to go through with the process. But once it’s said and done, you can’t control where you lose the weight or how your body changes. It’s an absolute shock to the body and brain which is what can cause the body dysmorphia.
@topshamahs

Hi Brittney! 🙋🏻‍♀️🇺🇲🏔️ I am 55, 5'4" and 270+lbs. I have hesitated to try weight loss surgery. One reason is I'm not sure long term health wise what may happen when they change your internal organs. It's scary. I currently am type 2 Diabetic, have acid reflux and high blood pressure. I am already in therapy for depression, anxiety, childhood PTSD and ADhD. And I just started menopause. I'm not sure such drastic surgery is the answer for me. Thank you for sharing!!! I will be praying for you! ♥️🙏✨

Hey Brit, just so you know for next time, you can control it more by not letting your body go into ketosis. A lot of people who don’t want to lose too much or stay at their goal weight drink a bit of juice, to keep their body out of ketosis so you can maintain where you are (if you can tolerate sugar without dumping of course). You can also dilute the juice if the sugar is too much and it’ll have the same effect, I’m 10 days out from RNY which was my only option due to gerds, and the struggle is real! I can’t stomach the protein shakes or liquid protein so I’m trying to find other ways, because I don’t want to get sick. Right now I’m in the hating my life, why did I do this phase and dealing with depression, so hopefully it gets better and I learn to be kind to myself like you said.
@BrittneyGiselle
@BrittneyGiselle 2 года назад
Hey Britt, 😊 thanks for the info, I’ll definitely do some research on ketosis, none of my drs ever mentioned it so I’ve never thought of it. Thanks for sharing your experience so far, I hope you’re able to start tolerating the protein shakes soon, protein is the most important at the beginning. Always remember to be kind to yourself 💖💖

You’re welcome, I wasn’t seeing the other side either which is why I decided to tell my story. It wasn’t easy but it’s my truth and my personal journey. I’ve learned that I’m not alone and so many others experience very similar things. There was a point that I didn’t like protein shakes either, my best suggestion would be to try different brands and mix it up so that you’re getting different flavors and different consistencies, weather that be powdered that you mix or pre-made. I personally prefer premiere protein, they have a huge variety of flavors ❣️

I had my surgery in September 2020 and my starting weight was 249 and since I lost a total of 90 pounds before the year was up. But I found out I was pregnant in august a month before my 1 year post op and it changed everything. I had a very hard time with eaten and I was dealing with really bad heartburn that was a cause from the vsg surgery. I was told to gain weight and it was difficult. I ended up only gaining 20 through my whole pregnancy and my baby was super small I had him almost a month early which I don't believe had anything to do with the surgery my baby was just ready to come out. Anyway I'm trying to loose the weight I gained and I was told that I have to convert the sleeve to a bypass because I'm suffering from sever heartburn and I have a hitial hernia. I'm really not trying to do that but I'm miserable. I'm just scared to loosing too much weight and I'm also not trying to take my body through any more trama since it's been through a lot in the last two years

Leaving me 100ml size teeny tummy Did your surgeon not have this conversation. Also, aftercare, i have access to a dietician and support group too for all the issues you mentioned and access to psych care IF needed. My hardest thing...... being vege and getting protein in. @BrittneyGiselle it was interesting. Personally I went abroad for mine, I'm in the UK. I wish there was more info on the afterlife of vsg, etc, rather than the before and up to op taking place. Had I known more I probably wouldn't have had it, but, at 50 it was now or never because of life expectancy and difficulties when older from all the usual. Mentally, for first 6wks or so I was goosed and physically done in. Feeling better now but again had I known how brutal it was for me I wouldn't have done it. I've seen some other American vsg pages eating all kinds of stuff at 1 and 2 months and I'm 🤯 as on my diet sheet those foods aren't suggested going fwd even at 6 month+ It's all so diff depending on the surgeon, the country, etc I'm glad you found your way with it. At the end of the day, you be who you want at what weight works for you. Only you can decide that. X

I may have missed it, but how much weight have you gained? And are you comfortable at your current weight? Thanks for sharing.

From my lowest I’ve gained back about 100 lbs over time, a bit more than I’d like. If I can loose a some I’ll be more comfortable but not too much. ❣️

@@BrittneyGiselle I can understand that. I've heard of other people who experienced similar emotions about the drastic changes. Some of them regained weight as well. I've also talked to some who lost less than 50 lbs and were expecting huge loses like you had. I do think that maybe doctors should prepare patients more about the possibilities. When the results don't fit our expectations it can be traumatic and better preparation beforehand could be so much more helpful. I researched surgery at one time and I say congrats to those brave enough to do it. It is not the easy way and requires a lot of work. I hope you find the happy balance that you're looking for and reach your ideal weight.❤

I think if I lose too much, I’ll just put some muscle weight on through lifting and get a tummy tuck and breast implants if I need them. My surgery is in two weeks 😮

I want to get the surgery but my doctor straight up was like no you can do it but I've had weight problems and it goes up and down then so many other things but I'm like damn what should do because she referred me to go to core life fitness gym however I'm honestly thinking about switching doctors

I am nearly 8 years out. I don't regret and I do regret vsg. If you can physically move and don't have a life altering health issue, I'd side with your doc. If I had the chance to do it over..I'd pick going to the gym and changing my diet. With vsg, you still have to change your diet to lose and maintain and should exercise anyway. There's no difference other than having a smaller stomach (eating less) , you still have to do the work. Not so much in the beginning but years out, you have to work it. If you eat too little, you can gain and the hard part is not being able to eat enough (trying to feed the body what it needs according to TDEE, BMI, etc). Either way, you still have to work out issues why you're in the position you're in now. No judgment here, I'd support anyone who decides to go with it or not. Just do a LOT OF RESEARCH! Hear from so many different sides before committing and make your decision being informed. 👍

Can we talk about hormonal imbalances? I know my hormones are outrageously out of whack and no matter what I do I can’t get them back to how they used to be.

Girllll hormones are so tricky not only with surgery but as a woman in general 🥺 I would recommend talking to your family Dr and OB/GYN, it could possibly be due to other underlying issues that you’re not aware of yet… like my Thyroid and PCOS Figuring it out and fixing it takes a lot of research, changes and time. ❤️
