This channel is the reason I recently got into watches, partly because of your snob-free attitude towards affordable watches, quartz, etc. I started my collection with a Casio Royale and I am loving it immensely. Will get a Seiko 5 in the near future as my first mechanical watch. Thanks for making legitimately great content and sharing the hobby rather than gatekeep it like so many do.

That's awesome to hear! This channel is how I found the watch community on RU-vid. Man am I greatful, you couldn't ask for a better entry than the Gentry. Not hating other channels but I think the attitude and 'watch philosophy' here is so joyful and inclusive of enthusiasts with any budget and any kind! Very positive so it's good you got to see this side of the community right away.

I recently started to get into watches, at the time i was considering a fashion watch. But then i discoverd your videos. The biggest reason why im into watches now is honestly seeing your video of why dw is not a good beginners watch. It made me rethink and really dig into watches more than i ever did before. @@Andreas-po2oc depends on your budget. And as someone who loves watches I like both automatics and quartz, both digital and analog, both dress watches and sporty watches (and those in between), both established names and newcomers. What I'm saying is, go out there and see what you like, be versatile. Don't be a watch snob or else TGV will prescribe you the remedy for that grave ailment. As he said, there's a difference between a watch enthusiast and a watch snob. The guy has influenced my thinking with regards to watches in no small way, and though I don't always watch his videos, I see him as a mentor.

I’ve always been into watches but I never knew what I liked or what was out there. I did have a few mvmt watches but then I discovered your channel. Which I love. I recently bought my brother a Timex Weekender after he kept borrowing mine. I then got myself a Seiko 5 Sport which I love thanks for helping me discover more about watches and horology.

I got a F-91W on a black and red cheap Chinese NATO that I wear everyday and a Swatch LEROICESTMOI that just looks dope. I few months ago a thief broke into my car and stole my Vincero Chrono S, thank god. I won't be able to afford a Rolex for a while so I think I will wear my F-91W until the bacteria on it eats through my wrist.

I saw their Star Wars watched and they're pretty kick-ass. Not for me though, because they're too big and getting them outside the US could be tricky and costly. I really like their Pro Diver watches though, which I have two of and really love.

Im 20 and at university so my collection is rather limited, I have a Seiko Flightmaster SNA411, a seiko samurai (orange) srpc07, a Casio f91w and an invicta two tone pro diver (yes I know its invite but im so far away from a Rolex it still provides me with joy). Watches are such a strange addiction... I bought my first Citizen eco drive and thought nothing of it. Bought my first automatic (Orient Bambino V4) and since then I've gone from 2 to 7 watches in the space of 2 year. My best piece is a tie between my Orient Polaris and Victorinox Alliance (circa 2011)

I’m a six watch collector by design. I love vintage and dress watches like fine art but I have zero desire to own any. I enjoy them tremendously especially when curated. I’m a diver guy: 100%. As much of a watch geek I am, what I love to see & read about is vastly different from what I spend money on. The urban Gentry! He’s the GOAT!!!

It is interesting that you mention maybe getting an FP Journe watch. I have wanted one for a few years after visiting their shop in Paris. What beautiful, functional pieces of wrist art. And the people at the shop were very nice to me despite the fact that I told them I was just looking at the moment. I went to the JLC shop as well and tried the Master Control moonphase and couldn't get over how perfectly sized and understated it was. I ended up adding a red dial Reverso Tribute to 1931 to the collection. Such a surprise. Have fun looking! --Michael

And currently my collection consists of 3 watches: 1. Rolex Datejust 36mm smooth bezel/black dial (latest model). My daily do anything watch. 2. Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute to 1931 Ultra Thin Black Dial. Simple and elegant. 3. Jaeger-LeCoultre Tribute to 1931 Red Dial (current model). Latest edition. I love the dial so much. What an amazing red leather strap as well. I have gone down the Reverso rabbit hole. My biggest realization in the last few years of collecting is that I prefer smaller, thinner watches. I have an 8" wrist but I feel the larger sizes just don't wear well for me. Strange but true. The Rolex Explorer 36mm is the watch that made me realize that. But I wanted a date and the new 72 hour power reserve parachrome hairspring movement so I sold my Explorer and other watches and bought it. No regrets. The DJ is it for me in terms of form and function. I put it on the NATO when I travel and it looks like a Timex. Haha. Thanks for sharing your collection. It is fascinating to see tastes change and meander. Love it. That is my favorite part of the hobby! Take care, brother. --Michael

Started with a Stowa Flieger, then a SARB033 and very recently a Sinn 104. By coincidence, you have reviewed all these pieces. By coincidence you have made me enthusiastic for these pieces too! Since I don't have a shop nearby to actually see a piece before buying, it's more or less a blind guess based on videos and pictures. It worked out right away for the first two, however things went different for the last one. Luckily Sinn has a very friendly customer support and let me change it for a 104. The funny part is that I wasn't fully convinced by pictures, but once it got in and I actually saw it in reality, I totally fell in love with it!

I have always worn a watch, but they never really intrigued me until now. You sir have sparked my fascination/collection with watches. Im 18 and my parents think im crazy for spending almost $2000 on an older OMEGA Speedmaster Automatic. The dial has the perfect amount of patina which I LOVE! I explained to them that the watch makes me very happy and proud. Took me all summer to buy that watch, and it's worth more than my car 😁.

My wife bought me a Bulova Marine Star. it's not one i would have bought for myself but she complains that all of my watches look the same, and she's right. So she usually buys me more fashion type watches which is fine by me. The thing about the Marine Star is it looks like a Hublot or AP Royal oak from a distance. my niece wanted to buy one for her boyfriend and i told her it was an AP Royal oak. when she looked up the price she almost passed out. i had to clue her in later in the evening that it was a Bulova.

@@luigisavoia2401 I wouldn't buy something like a Marine Star again. I bought it for myself for my 21st birthday just as I was getting into watches a few years ago. I liked it because it reminded me of a Hublot or an AP Royal Oak, but for a much more reasonable price...

My single favorite watch in your collection is that little Omega spitfire. I’ve watched your video on it over and over. It might be too beautiful (somehow)! There is a brand called Smiths that makes a homage and I’m very tempted.

I started my collection after watching your videos... i had one watch before this madness started.. it was a Burberry chronograph with a swiss movement. Sold that and there has been no turning back. Its been 6 months now and my collection is always evolving. I am hoping to reduce it to only 4. Will probably sell off the green alpinist and the Squale to make way for a Black bay 58 SOTC-- Omega SMP300c(older ceramic without the laser etched wave dial), Tudor North Flag, Seiko SARB033, Squale 1545 Militare, Seiko Alpinist SARB017, Seiko SNJ027( the Pepsi Arnie), Seiko SCED041( blackened out Ripley)

My collection is currently: Tag Heuer Carrera Rose Gold absolute keeper. Not necessarily the most impressive watch but I got it as a gift when i graduated high school and it was what started my love of watches. Wore it everyday for about 4 years Seiko Padi Turtle - My diver i wear most often hate the term "beater" but it gets that kind of workload Seiko Monster 2019 version with blue dial on a bracelet (keeper gift from gf) Heuer Autavia with the heuer02 movement. my first luxury piece i purchased. Want to say keeper but who knows

Your F91 Talaban is immaculate! Mine is beat to pulp! Love the Bulova never seen it before. The 1960's Audemars is beautiful. Tudor one is lovely. Favourites are Rolex ones though. It's funny how some just spring out. Most of your collection is mearly 'meh' to me but 'wow' to you.

My current watch collection : 4 x Casio (2 of which are G-Shocks), 2 x Invicta Pro Diver, 2 x Lige, 1 Swiss Military Hanowa, 1 x Citizen Eco Drive, 1 x Rolex, 2 x Timex (including an old Timex SL automatic), 2 x Zeblaze, 1 Oozoo (what a crappy watch! Subdial fell off and I barely even use it), 1 x cheap digital Skmei for when I really wanna wear something disposable. Right now my favorites are my Zeblaze Vibe 5 and Zeblaze Crystal 2. I've long stayed away from smart watches but these watches are more like traditional watches with LCD displays and heart sensors. Still not buying Android watches because I see them as merely miniaturized cellphones with circular displays that you strap on your wrist. No no no. If I want a cellphone I'll get a cellphone.

I think I called it last SOTC that the Tudor sub (36mm at the time) would make you sell the Rolex sub. I wasn't that far off! I'm shocked you got rid of the vintage Navitimer that really was a stunner

I think I have a problem of “ticking boxes” and I need to stop that. Hearing you refer to box-ticking made me realize it’s a problem and I should buy a watch based on my desire of it regardless of what boxes it may or may not tick. Now I have a few watches in my collection that I don’t wear only because I was ticking a box. Thanks for bringing awareness!

A gift from my grandfather UG Aero Compax(he was a pilot) and that recently got me into a crazy amount of watches that i like (but cant afford) and my first personal purchase is a Seiko Chronograph 7a38 7140(the anodized steel version) "has a giugiaro look to it" and i LOVE IT ! I am a novice but i could write tons here ...guess i am doomed like all the rest of you guys :))) P.S. - Would live a feedback,my next purchase will be the SNKL23J1 .... TGV made me obsess over it since he put out that video couple of years ago :P

I have 23 watches and I just bought a Sea Gull 1963 that is on the way. I lean towards Bauhaus and German design. My Sinn 104 Blue was the first one in the US. I wear suits often, and nothing beats the auto Max Bill. I have a "baby hulk" SKX013 green dial, green bezel mod for Saturdays. I have several US micro-brands, several D.S..B Vintage Swiss. I have my first watch working - my grandfather gave me, a pristine Lucerne Jump Hour - that one always gets stares and comments. A reverso duoface, a Lange 1 (trying to decide on Grande or regular), and a gold or Rolesor sub are in the future for 2020. A forty mm Overseas with the Maltese bracelet may be in order. A new micro-brand from San Antonio has an integrated bracelet Royal Oak inspired model coming out (Minimax Watches). TGV I can honestly say you have influenced each purchase. Stay tuned ... 2020 is going to be a big year for purchases. #neversoldawatch

Great video! Started watching your channel about a year ago and it reinvigorated my love of watches. My current collection: my fathers automatic steal square dial Girard Perregaux, gold hand wind Tissot pocket watch given to me by my wife on our 20th, modded Seiko SKX with Batman bezel and sapphire crystal (thanks Long Island Watches), Seiko SBDC051, Seiko SARX035, Seiko SARB033, Orient Polaris GMT (I’m a bit of a Japan-ophile), 2 Times Weekenders that my wife wears most of the time.
