This reminds me of my grandparents and their generation. They were very direct, and at times- we felt like they were heavy handed or insensitive, but they set the tone.....they gave and gave, and never gave up. They made the big sacrifices for all of us kids, and they had so much wisdom that we couldn't even understand. It was their sense of self discipline and perseverance - regardless of whether it was "unpopular" - that made a rock solid foundation for our family. You did not hang out and "chill" in my grandfathers house. My Grandmother's sense of class and decorum was to be taken seriously. I'm afraid we have forgotten much of this for a feeling of casual ease, but it's songs like this that keep that spirit alive for everyone.
Its like he is shouting all of his live stories in one songs. His One full circle of life . God Knows how much every individual is struggle and hustle and fight for their live . This song tell every man stories too.

Yes but did you accept Him as Lord? The answer is no because “I did it MY way” Let us surrender to the Lordship of Jesus Christ & do it HIS way. If you notice in the song all things were done his way but in the END, The record shows & He took the blows all because He did it his way. A record is being kept of how we live our lives & we don’t have to take unnecessary blows. God knows & wants what’s best for us, what’s good & perfect for us. “I did what I had to do”, hits so hard, because I tend to overthink about past events, and I keep going in circles only to return to “I did what I had to do” because it’s true, sometimes there is no good action to take but you have to take the lesser evil to prevent the greater evil from happening.
I don't think in terms of evil and good. A lot of times, we do things without clear thinking. In fact, to say " I did what I had to do " wasn't really entirely accurate, but it sounded great in lyrics. The only time that I "had" to do something is if I didn't, I would go to jail, or be killed. Other than that, it's only a choice I made to do one thing and not the other. And I don't know how many of us had had to choose the less evil deed. In fact, many of us had chosen to do the wrong things. And those were what we called "mistakes" we made.
