This WRX needs more appreciation. It’s really nice once you see it in person and even more once you drive one! It drives great. Gotta adapt to changes, and this design it’s what makes it different than others.

Awesome review! Just got my new 22 WRX! I've notice 1st to 2nd is a bit bouncy, even with a slow release of the clutch. Any suggestions?? I usually shift between 2500-3000 rpm.

the 2.4 in my outback runs rough in the cold as well (5f or colder) and never gets up to temp in those conditions either, always low.

I'm just sold on Honda quality. My wife has had Accord after Accord after Accord. Low maintenance, highly competent and usable, solid gas mileage, excellent build quality- just a solid car all around. If'n I were in the market, it'd be Civic SI. Thanks for another solid review, Matt!

Is there anything you can tell us about the base model? Interior wise? Haven't been able to find anything about the base model. I might just pick one up in October.

Thanks for the in depth review. Does the new model have the automatic engine start stop feature? Like when you stop at a red light, does the engine shut off by itself, then start up when you apply gas?

How would you compare this to an used last gen STI?

I've had many many vehicles in my 32 years of driving, and the only car I've actually missed owning/driving is my 2006 WRX TR. If yall don't remember, the TR was the Tuner Ready trim. So it was completely bare bones. And I still loved it more than any of my fully loaded cars I've had. Can't wait to check out the new WRX.

Hey Matt, this is Alex, I used to work with you at the Sewickley Car Store many years ago. I'm glad to see that your channel is very popular. Congratulations!! Anyway, I was considering buying the 2022 WRX. In fact, I'm going to test drive one tomorrow afternoon at a Subaru dealership in Moon township. They have 2 premium models and I like the Solar Orange Pearl color and they have one there. I don't like the fact that they put summer tires on an all wheel drive vehicle. I was told by one dealership that if I order one this weekend, they will have it by December. So what am I going to do with an all wheel drive car, in the Pittsburgh winter, with summer tires on it? I wonder if I can negotiate something with the dealership to have them take off and keep those summer tires and have them put on some all season tires or something because that would suck to have to buy a whole set of new all season tires after buying a brand new car. Plus on top of that, it doesn't have a spare tire. I was going to buy the same rim that is on the car and put a tire on it to have a full size spare. It's a lot to think about but thank you for your input on the car because your giving me a lot to figure out. I'll let you know how the test drive goes and if I end up purchasing this vehicle.

I’d agree; you really can’t beat the Civic Si for a fun, reliable daily driver unless you absolutely need AWD

Are you sure those MPG numbers aren’t from the Outback Wilderness? 19 is pretty abysmal given the size and better aerodynamics of the WRX vs the Outback Wilderness.

Spot-on, Matt. I had a 2016 WRX for six years, and a 2019 Bullitt for weekends. Sold the WRX for an Ecoboost Mustang - that crapped the bed in 6 months - the 10R80 transmission needed a new valve body at 4k miles. Drove it from the Ford dealer to a Subaru dealer and arrived at home in a 2023 WRX - best decision. Too bad the Ecoboost auto failed so early in its life. Not a bad car, but lousy manufacturing and engineering design. The ‘23 WRX is fantastic.

I think that the best part about sitting inside of the all new 2022 Subaru WRX is going to be that you can't see the outside of it from there.

Good review. Looks great for a base model, surely they wouldn’t forget to paint all of the cheap black plastic on the 45k one

The front definitely looks meaner and I actually like the taillights. The main negatives are the plastic fenders and rear. Black car seems to be the way to go lol

I love how all of these 2022 WRX press videos/test drive videos are with the darkest color WRX possible. Subaru knows how people feel about that cladding. They hide it as much as possible whenever this car is in ANY sort of press environment by always providing dark colored cars.

Did you happen to drive the WRX with snow on the ground with those pilot all seasons? Im moving back to colorado from california and I've always had snow tires and all seasons combo when i lived in california.

Reviews 2022 WRX. Talks about how great the Si is. Edit: I've been excited for the new Si more than anything else. Current ride: 2015 Honda Fit six speed manual with the sunroof. Coming from a 2000 Camry LE auto with the 5SFE.

Aye good review, I currently own a 2016 STI. Was considering the 2022 WRX, but rather get the Sleeper 2.0 t Accord, great mpg, reliability etc.well imo

Is the clutch still heavy?

I’m consistently getting just below 37 mpg in my civic Si. I have a daily commute of 40 miles each way.

Could that bucking be clutch judder? I had an Impreza RS that was awful when it was cold and wet outside

anyone have any comments on road noise on these VBs vs the last gen? Test drove a VA wrx a few years ago and it was quite loud, not in a good way

The front end looks OK. I use to love the Impreza/WRX, it hasn't looked good since 3rd Generation.

Everyone is talking about Hyundai, Kia, VW as a WRX replacement, but ALL of you are sleeping on the BMW 340i I had a 2016 STi stage 2, and my current stock 340 AWD with MPPSK is way faster because it has the B58 engine, same in the Supra.

I've been pretty back and forth about this car but... 19mpg with a 4 cylinder? I know you don't buy this car for the mpg but with competitors in the high 20s and low 30s it just doesn't seem reasonable in the long run.

When you work the clutch wright this could win over on the BRZ. A BRZ could beat a Z06 but if you only shift what wright right.

I'm going to keep my 2016 WRX limited, the wheel plastics around the fenders are ugly.........

I’m excited for this and the new sti, I have a 2020 wrx that I love, like you said the breaks just feel weird. I’ve always stopped in time but it just feels like your not gonna.

I've always found Subaru tuning to always be not the best. From your complaints it seems that's the case here too - they do the normal daily drive (0-20% throttle) alright, but anything after that seems like it's very inconsistent, especially when it's warm and heat soaked. I'm a Mazda fan and I love the 4th gen turbo, especially because Subaru in their infinite wisdom killed the hatch, but I think if/when the GR Corolla comes out, that will be the new benchmark

Matt, what’s the NVH like? The road noise seemed extremely loud during your drive or was that just the camera mic?

Another strong review from you. You skipped the spec sheet and gave us your impressions and experience from living with the car for a week, something that is almost impossible to determine on a test drive. Like you, I'm glad that this car still exists. However, the fuel economy is flat-out unacceptable. Even the Acura TLX Type-S gets better and it's not even the best of its class.

Every time I see a review of one of these I think about that beautiful WRX concept from a few years ago and think about what this should have been. Subaru screwed this up

I would love to consider this car, but the fuel economy for a 4-cylinder is too much to get over, especially with gas prices the way they are. I'm hoping to buy a 2022 or 2023 civic Si, depending on when I can find one for MSRP or less.

3x WRX owner, Subaru desperately needs a true competitor because this car can be summed up by the faces I see from the reviewers. Some smiles with a lot of mehhh faces and desperate search for positives over the previous generation. Ask yourself, did this car improve enough to justify the price hike…20 years since the first WRX and the fuel economy and performance numbers are almost identical (go look it up) and thats just pathetic. Im glad they still make it and the performance sedan market with stick and AWD is virtually nonexistent so I might be stuck with this goblin but maybe its time Subaru gets humbled by poor sales because its obvious they are not listening to their fans. I heard them say they focused on making it a better daily driver…yet all the reviews indicate they failed to deliver here also over the previous generation. Thanks for the review.

My biggest takeaway from this video is that the Golf R has one of the worst infotainment systems in the industry.

I was debating between the automatic & manual & it seems that the automatic gives more bang for ur buck with all the extra safety features, but wasn’t sure if it was gonna have the moon roof bc it didn’t say it on my spec sheet when I ordered it, where did Subaru release all of the info on that?

I'd seriously look at the Mazda 3 Turbo AWD. While its definitely less sporty, its performance numbers and price are similar. The Mazda 3's interior quality and paint job are a clear step above the WRX.

It's weird to me that Subaru continues to gear their cars so they're nearly touching 3k on the highway. My old legacy was like that, this is like that. My mazda 3 doesn't even touch that when I'm cruising on the highway.

Strangely I remember Subaru saying fuel economy would be improved, but I guess that was a lie. 🤔

Unfortunately I doubt the Sti will make the rumoured 400hp. Probably will be only 310-320hp and similar torque.
