I’m only 11 but I have started to collect money to buy a van when I turn 18 or maybe even build it myself, and I have all my inspiration from you, and also things will get better don’t worry 💛

A lesson, have full insurance when living van life

If this happened in the USA you probably would have a $10,000 Medical Bill in addition to your property loss.

You were that traumatized yet still able to video everything - amazing. Thankful you and the dog are both unharmed.

Its amazing you managed to film while in the ambulance. In such a situation I would just not care for the vlog whatsoever, but there you were, hiper ventilating and focusing your camera. Respect!

You’re young. I encourage you to go back to your apt in Germany, get a job and save, save, save....for a van or for savings so that you have more options when life is unfair.

I just started watching you last week (older videos)I was 33 when that van was new. I was familiar with the engines in volkswagons (yours is in the rear I think) Everything for volkswagons can be obtained and fixed it is true but in a foreign country you still need a place to do the work. Don't worry about not getting an insurance payout from the guy who ran away. His insurance probably would not take care of the camper items because they are not standard or meant to be in the van. The help of your friends on internet is your best bet. If I were in your situation, I would find out if that couple or one of their friends is handy with old VW's (you can always find a VW fan anywhere) and give it to them hoping that they will help you box and ship all the good stuff inside. Go home and start new.Volkswagons are a lot of tinkering and as you see they don't take a crash that well. YOu are very lucky you did not flip on your side. Take all that you know and considor what fell apart in an accident and think about doing it differently. Newer vans offer more stability and protection, plus power for uphill climbs. I have had so many vehicles in my life as I am 63 this year. A rear ender is hard but a front end collision might have killed you being so close to the front with not much between you and the other vehicle. I know you are crushed and broken hearted. Maybe Scotland will get you something from the guy who claims he sold it that day. (sounds like baloney) I have had many collisions over the years. A few were minor and a few my fault, several were at the fault of others,, Thank goodness none were in countries that assume the foreigner to be at blame and protect the citizen. ( mexico insists that all financial be decided by the police and if you are forced to pay for their time and effort to help you they make you pay NOW). Another really cool option is to go on Instructables.com and find a gypsy camper that you can tow with a smaller vehicle and build it. They are so ecectic and light some can be towed by an oridinary vehicle. 1800 lbs. Instructables has plans for so many. I am wanting to finish up a build of a small trailer for carrying toys like bikes and ATV's and then build a gypsy vanner or maybe even a bow top. So fun. I will look and see how to donate and help you out.

OMG that's terrible. Car accidents are always stressful and having your whole life tied up in the van makes it even worse. You've got to stay positive though. Nobody was injured and your dog is fine. Also even thought there was that one bad person, there were also many good people you met as well such as those people that took you into their home. I think you will bounce back from this minor setback stronger than ever !!

So incredibly glad you both are alright. Drunk driving needs to stop. My friend's cousin was killed from it a few years ago, my friend almost died from it last year, and I just met a man today who was hit by one a few weeks ago, and he's wheelchair bound at the moment. No more!

It’s not just a home or a vehicle, it’s all the love and hard work that you put into it...We get so attached to our vehicles. I was devastated when my husband totaled a car that I had for 12 years, purchased new and worked hard to pay off early. It was a very reliable vehicle...unlike the ones I have had since. Keep your head up and I promise things will get better!
