Exactly. The originals were an homage to the pulp action movies of the 40's and took inspiration from them. This took inspiration from the B grade sci fi movies of the 50's, hence the aliens. I liked it except for Shia in there as Indy's son. I remember seeing rumors of Natalie Portman being his daughter and I think that would have been a lot more interesting.

That, and the “red scare” feeling going on in the country.

@@PikeBishop1 lol don't be. It's a film I was entertained by as a youth and it's something that I still find entertaining today. Is it as good as any of the films before it? No. But I personally don't find it as egregious as many do. Granted, it has been a long time since I've watched it, but this video served more as a refresher than anything and I can definitely see the film's issues slip through the cracks, but I still find the action entertaining and the acting is very good amongst everyone in the cast and the direction very solid. The story and VFX do leave a lot to be desired admittedly, but even then I don't find the latter that bad tbh. I've seen better VFX in films around the same time, obviously, but it doesn't take me out of the film entirely. So yeah it's not something I'm ashamed of. It's a lot like the star wars prequels for me: something I was engrossed in and watched repeatedly as a kid, grew up and uncovered many of the issues it had that we're talked about by everyone and their mother, but in the end, I don't hold the same opinion because of how much it was influential in my upbringing and what I was introduced to in my youth that made me a fan of that respective franchise.

@@Rejeckted what hes saying is that the different sizes between different "breeds" of scorpions usually correlate with the smaller ones being more venomous. the way ive heard it though i not compared to the overall size of the scorpion, but compared to the claw size, with smaller claws meaning their stings are more venomous meaning they rely on their sting to kill and not their claws

I can say that this is true... I am a physician in mexico... scorpions in the state i live in are some of the most venomous and are small in size, not in age, also... for darker color the better, if the scorpion is more brown or yellow correlates to a more dangerous kind... I do tend to several people each week who get intoxicated with scorpion venom...

Also, scorpions are nocturnal, so they are more dangerous in the evening because they are full with venom, they sleep during the day generating more venom, young scorpions are not as dangerous as adult scorpions, and for the entomologists the tail is divided in several compartments, the more compartments, more venom stored...

I'm pretty sure I'm going to have some serious 'creative differences' with Indy 5, give KK's track record of making movies that aren't meant for me.

Rubbish - he was outside the great seal - FFS, just wish desperate (modetn) fans wouldn't keep reaching flor the impausable!

But except it doesn't, you have to drink from it regularly and since it can't leave, he doesn't reap the benifits. I get that people will want to make excuses for this movie, but it's almost indefensible.

@@Paul_1971 The fact is if you're nitpicking plausibility in one Indiana Jones movie and forgiving the lack of it in another you have other issues. Crystal Skull was far getter than Temple of Doom.

I would definitely say that if this wasn't an Indiana Jones movie people would probably have liked it more. The first and third movies are 9.5's and the second is an 8 to me so this one being a full point or two below that one is where a lot of overly critical criticism comes from.

I love the fact people have a problem with the alien angle but not with the holy grail and the ark which in my opinion are also fantsy/sc-fi

@@JohnDoe-bz4yl yeah, the premise is fine. It's the execution that sucks. Take away the fridge, the weird jungle chase, and the falling down the waterfalls and the movie is 100% better.

Remember they weren't Aliens they were Interdimensional Beings...the only Alien shown was the one In the Area-51 Warehouse crate

I am older, too. I was 25, and I loved every moment of the film. I was willing to go wherever the director took me on the journey. 💫

This was at a the time where Lucasfilm was going through its era of errors in their films.

It's not really the alien angle that people didn't like. It's the resolution to the alien thing that sucked. And Shia swinging with monkeys. And the over-reliance on bad CGI (even at the time), and the fridge, and the friend who turns on him that we've never met and have no emotional stakes with, and the old professor that we have never met before that the movie asks us to care about that we just can't. I even remember they went with the "part time" line reading that was inexplicably WAY WORSE than what was in the trailer for the movie. Even something as trivial as that hurts the movie. It asks a lot from its audience, and in the end all anyone could ask was... "Why?" Plus, an earlier draft of this movie reportedly was about the Ark coming back. That would have been much cooler. Instead we got a trope that has been done to death. And they didn't even look original. They were big-eyed grey aliens.

Back when this came out I mostly heard the critisism about the aliens being "unrealistic". I even back then thought, " so how is the religion things from the first movies any different" - little did I know back then how fundamentally believing americans are (I am european). Btw the fridge part is a reference to an unused idea in Back to the future, only learned that recently.

I agree with this so much! I don't think the fridge is more unbelievable than jumping out of a plane with a rubber boat

Stings....not bites....Bites are harmless from scorpions. Also the same applies for spiders. Smaller spiders tend to have more potent venom than large spiders.

@Infisly_ - Nah. I don't buy it. Ancient stories in a reall life. Sure. Maybe. A lot of data out there in various myths from different cultures. In this movie? I bet this was something that Lucas was forcing, and at the end Spielberg just was tired of listening to that stuff/crap and just have made the movie for money, and didn't cared about any of it at the end. A bit of simplification there, but I bet the whole concept of aliens - that was Lucas, and had nothing to do with Spielberg. And this movie don't have the same "feeling" as the previous ones. Not the fault of actors, but most likely a script itself.

@@tannhauser5399 he wasn't forcing it, this was film was set in the 1950s, UFO/Sci-fi B movies were extremely popular during that period in a Americann cinema, that's why they went down that route with the story.

@@tannhauser5399 I've just read the interview in the article you've mention. He actually says he was happy with the film. Plus the headline is misleading, the article contradicts itself, as in one sentence it states "And he puts the blame squarely on George Lucas's shoulders" But In the next paragraph he says takes he's share of the blame as the fridge scene was his idea and that's the most part of the the film that gets the most criticism! He just points out the stories from all 4 movies comes from George which is true, but he doesn't say it was shit and it's all down to George Lucas how article tries to have you to believe, just understand people's opinions on it.

@@kd84afc relax man. It is just a movie which I personally don't like, nothing more, comparing to previous ones. One that Lucas screwed up in my view. And yes he is blaming Lucas for that crap, he is just polite not to say thay straight away, as Lucas is his friend.

BTW… Rewatch Temple of Doom, & tell me just how much you bought into all of the terrible visual effects! (The terrible & obvious green screen, especially in the mine car chase, & Mola Ram’s demise were laughable, at best.)
