I bought this bike recently. The only change I've made so far was to replace the brakes with Shimano hydraulic disc brakes. The originals just didn't seem strong enough for a quick stop. The new brakes were $200 installed and the difference is night and day.
@@bobxdole It is very good and high quality. But I had some issues making it work. The pedal assistant doesn't work if the lights are off and my breaks don't work well either. My recommendation is that you should ensamble it with a bike shop if you are not so good with mechanics (just like me)
@@AlbiBravo Oh no! I didn't experience those myself (although I did experience some squeaky breaks which I understand is normal when first breaking them in). Have you reached out to wing support? Maybe the wiring is loose or the controller unit is defective.
What a fantastic video! I wish Wing had something like this to help me out before I purchased (Maybe reach out to them and share it!). I added a Redshift ShockStop seat post to mine with a shim and it helps a lot with bumpy roads. It adds an inch or two of height to the seat column, though.
Thank you, appreciate the comment. I wish there was a video available as well before I purchased, but luckily for me I got to try in in person at their showroom. And nice, can you send me a link of the seat so I can check it out? Seems like a good idea.
Glad it helped! Yeah it would be nice if it had a suspension fork, but honestly it’s not a deal breaker. If you have any questions, feel free to ask away.
@@mikewillmadeit8868 I got this bike 5 months ago. Had to change breaks already. It’s not bad, but I would have love to but a different brand. It has a good price and very good battery anyway. So sad to hear that…
Hi Jonathan. Thanks for video and quite informative. Very helpful in my search. Your handlebars look quite a bit higher than website. I like the additional height as I have had a recent shoulder replacement. And that position would alleviate strain. Is that something you added? Or a standard ability to move. Much appreciated. Tim
I’m glad you found my video informative. Regarding the height of the handle bar, the bike comes with the adjustment rings so you can play with the height.
@@jonathancantres7842 I decided on installing the handle bar riser today after re-visiting this video and wow, what an improvement! Hope you're still enjoying yours and I'm glad you cut a deal with them :)
@@bobxdole yeah raising the handle bar really does make an improvement! Yeah I’m still loving it, I’m over the 1000 mile mark and still running strong. And yeah, they noticed my video and reached out. I’m glad to just help those who are interested in buying this bike.
Does the throttle have speed control or does it just kick into full power on your set up? My throttle doesn't allow me to control my speed , it just goes full power. Is that normal?
Hey, yeah no problem. The mirror and U-lock I will link below. I received the bottle holder as a gift, but I'm sure any bottle holder works fine. If there's anything else, feel free to ask. Hey! I just wanted to say how fantastically helpful I found your video. I've been thinking about getting a Freedom X, but had a lot of questions that weren't answered by the website that your video cleared right up for me. I'm also based in NYC and looking to use the bike as my primary form of transportation. How have you found the security features and built in alarm? My last bike was stolen despite using a Kryptonite lock, so I'm particularly interested in Wing's Theft Protection features. Also, forgive me if you mentioned this in the video and I missed it, but which battery did you get? Thanks!
Im glad this video was able to assist you and others, even in small ways. As for the security features, the alarm is pretty loud and annoying so that's good. Thats unfortunate to hear that your bike was stolen. I also have a Kryptonite Lock and paid for the 5 year insurance on the lock as a security measure. It was like $25 so why not. No worries on the question for the battery, I have the smallest one. Ive gotten around 28 miles of usage with around 1-2 bars left. Feel free to ask anything else.
Thanks for the review, I ended up getting the bike after watching it! It just came in yesterday and got to do my first ride on it. One question, have you figured out how to unlock the 24 mph on it? I saw the instructions on their FAQ but it seems to be for a different model cause I don’t see the setting they mention on the Freedom X display.
Glad my video helped. Sadly I was informed by the owner that this model doesn’t support the unlocked 24 mph which I was super disappointed to hear. I would have included that in this video but I found out after.
@@jonathancantres7842 The latest bikes all come unlocked. If yours did not, you can easily unlock it following the instructions on the FAQ page (under the support page).
Hey, I totally understand the confusion. The display I have comes with the freedom X model which is their newest model. I don’t know why they haven’t updated their website, I only found out it came with the display because I was able to try it in person.
Yes. It is best to gear higher so your legs are in use, but wow, when you take off at a light, you do not need to torque your legs to accelerate. I had surgery and this makes getting back on the road easy. You can work as hard as you want pedaling. It has 5 levels of motor assist.
The on off is the single button on the left side. If you hold the up arrow 3 seconds, the lights front and rear turn on. The arrow buttons on the left are for 1-5 speed assist.
Wing charges 25% to return items. Know this before you order a bike rack. The seat is small and too hard for riding. It keeps the weight under 40lbs, but most people will need to replace the seat.
Cutting through the internet clutter, here is what you actually get if you decide to purchase a Wing E-bike: (1) Hysterically long shipping -- this company is way overstretched. You'll get a confirmation for a delivery within a week, and three weeks later you'll still be calling customer service (which barely exists) trying to work out when the bike will actually arrive. (2) Poor craftsmanship -- from the moment you take it out of the box and assemble, it's obvious that this not a bike you'll be riding in five years; because it'll most certainly be broken. (2) Smoke & Mirrors -- within a month of purchase you'll realize that the battery does not last long AT ALL, and what you were told on the website does not match reality. Take these quotes straight from Wing Bike's customer service team: "You should plan for the battery to last 15 - 25 miles" --- First off the website says 45 miles, so WTF. Secondly, I have to charge this thing every 20 miles??? What if you want to go out for a longer ride than 20 miles... the answer I'm sorry to tell you, is that your battery will shut off mid-ride. "The bikes are designed for a 125 pound person" --- HA! So no adult men can ride a Wing Bike? And maybe 15% of adult women? They tell you this because it means if you are larger than 125 lbs, the battery last EVEN LESS TIME. "You should only use level 1 and 2. Do not use levels 3, 4, or 5." --- OK... so why are there levels 3, 4, 5? Buyer beware, you need AT LEAST level 3 in order to get this hulking bike up any real hill. "The green light on the battery means 30-70% charged" --- how are you supposed to plan your ride with this crazy range? Just another example of the poor craftsmanship across the board. If you plan to buy this bike, also plan to have the giant battery on your counter, constantly sucking energy. * I am 140 pound female, who does several types of serious exercise every week. I am not using the power assist except on larger hills. ** I have never written a bad review like this before. That's how awful this company is. *** I am not the only one! Even in our smaller-sized community, I met somebody else with a Wing Bike and the same crappy results.
I’ve had a horrible experience with Wing Customer Service. The battery arrived damaged, loose in the box and without any protective wrapping. I informed Wing Customer Service prior to assembling the device and they told me “that happens” and never once offered to replace or fix the battery. I have emailed Wing Bike Customer Service five times without a response. Don’t but a bike from Wing unless you want to pay several thousand $$$ for a bike that arrives damaged and a warranty that is worthless.
It’s a terrible bike, really poor quality. I bought two bikes for Christmas 2021, one of them started emitting sparks from the charging port. I then contacted the customer support but they would replace it since the mileage on the bike is over 10 miles (lol). I decided to buy another battery and it doesn’t lock on the holder… it’s just ridiculous at this point. I will NEVER EVER EVER buy a Wing Bike again.
