Dude, on May 13th I was riding and went from a concrete bike trail to a wooden boardwalk, that was a bit wet from some earlier rain. I went to turn into the middle of the boardwalk and my bike slid to the left, and I went over sideways to the right. Bam! Never felt anything like it. So fast my hands never left the grips. Thought I was gonna die right there. My wife called 911, and they got me out. Turns out I broke 6 ribs and have a punctured lung. It ain't no fun trying to breathe, and they cant put a cast on me. My next big challenge will be getting back on my bike. Most people think that is a stupid idea. Good thing for you that you have youth on your side to heal up. I'll be 71 in 3 days. But I love to ride :)
damn 71 fairplay, I'm 47 and I broke 2 ribs last year.....it sure sucks, the worst is when you just get comfortable and someone makes you laugh, 3 weeks of sleeping upright, but got back on the bike as soon as I could, best of luck and speedy recovery
Came off my steed last year in March. Completely ruptured my ACL and my meniscus. Had my operation in Jan and on the road to recovery. Already out on the Ebike which is a life saver. Good luck with your recovery man.❤
Thanks fella! Great vid. Many have had a big one, me included - shoulder, ribs and concussion ++ despite full face at the end of a long ride on a trivial corner (guess why it happened 😂). It’s really kind of you to include us in your journey. We wish you well man! I happen to be a retired trauma anaesthetist/ITU and have been part of caring for literally hundreds of people with your injury. I’m here to tell you that you are doing really, really well. It may not seem like it, but despite all those issues you listed, you’re obviously well on the mend. You’re trajectory is excellent - well, since you sent that little jump 😂 We’re all with you 🌈
I've seen a few broken femurs over the years in other sports. It's been described as one of the most painful things a human can experience. I just want to say not once have I seen someone handle it as stoic and manly as you did in that video. You're one tough dude, Chuck Norris would be proud. All the best with your recovery and hopefully you get back riding soon.
i broke my femur on my bike a year ago last month . the recovery is like a mental mountain to climb . the comeback will be insane . sending recovery wishes ❤
Man how things happen you just did the biggest jumps at dark fest and you did so good and this happened where you less expected i wish you the best we ere here for you
I am so sorry for your situation Daryl. You are one of the Raddest riders ever! I know you will work doubly hard to get back. Until then I hope you heal up quickly and know that your fans will be there for you. Cheers mate - M
Sorry to hear about your leg! But I reckon you are even luckier to survive hospital, people can die with those complications! Hope you have a speedy recovery!
Holy shit, you champ. What a chill reaction to breaking your femur dude! Wishing you a speedy recovery. So unexpected as Dazza B is one of the most controlled cleanest riders we see on the RU-vids
I had a similar experience 6 weeks ago hitting a double that I’ve done dozens of times, just went down with no time to bail and snapped my collarbone and broke three ribs. I feel for you brother and wish you well! Love from Idaho USA. ❤
Mate. Look forward to you making a full recovery and get back to doing what you love. Thank you for sharing what I know is a very hard experience to go through. Good luck 👍
I'm not one to normal comment on a video but wishing you a speedy recovery. Such small margins between fun and disaster. Hope the recovery isn't to difficult.
Wish you a speedy recovery Daryl, you will be back in the game soon for sure, keep us updated dude, in the meantime you can practice 720's and fakies in the wheelchair if you get bored
That's insane, hope you heal up quickly! Looks like everyone did an amazing job, Matt and Sam reacting very quickly, and paramedics carrying you out! Stay positive, you'll be back!
You were looking so smooth and fast before that happened. It sucks big time especially with all that has happened to you this year, but at the same time you realise how many people you have behind you and how strong your relationship is. This bad situation will only make you stronger
I hope you have amazingly healthy times ahead to help with recovery and so on. I really do think you'll be improving at other things in the mean time. You're journey through this is hopefully something positive and not the crash and injury over shadowing that you try to improve at various things in life to help you through life. I wish you awesome health how I mean and thank you for the positive things you do during life.
So sorry this happened to you - I can literally feel your pain. 13 years ago I fell while climbing a 20' boulder problem and fractured my rt femur (and a bunch more, including shattering my talus). I was in a canyon, with a small lake preventing rescue from easily getting to me & getting me out. 3 hrs, a raft, a backcountry litter (like they had you in) eventually a helicopter and I was at a trauma center. They actually put me in traction for a night and put the rod in in the morning. Sadly it mostly ended my climbing & mtn biking. I was 43 and I'm still having surgeries & PT 13 years on. It was a climb I'd done hundreds of times - no good reason I fell that day. But you are young, super stong & I'm confident you'll be back sending soon!
Wow. Amazing work from emergency services and your friends. Good work. Amazing what comes out of nowhere and knocks you sideways! After all the Darkest madness. Good luck with recovery and physio. Look forward to seeing you shred it again soon. 👊
I hate my brain. That toe sticking out the sock distracted me the entire time 😆 You've had some terrible luck with that crash but hopefully the worst is over and you make a quick and full recovery 💪
Amazing to see your progress since my surprise protein filled visit. Keep posting these update videos so we can all see how to recover from BIG set back injury.
That is a scary accident! Sucks that you broke your Femur, but your Helmet did indeed save your life. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Accidents like that is the reason why I'm not a jumper. It looks fun, but so many things can go wrong.
Speedy recovery pal I feel your pain. I broke both my feet and crushed bone in one after a crash at porc years ago. Learning to walk again was harder than I expected physio was brilliant. Amazing how quickly you lose muscle
Thanks for sharing something so personal to you bud, honestly sounds like you have been through the mill. Just remember you are ok 👍🏻 you will be ok 👍🏻 and there are better days ahead 👍🏻 k people strong 💪🏻 don’t let this get you down and I’m sure you will be back up and around soon 💚
The exact same thing happened to my Dad, albeit smaller jumps at Sherwood Forest. He hit the tree head on, 8 snapped ribs and a punctured lung. Not fun stuff at all, trees are the one thing you don’t want to hit at those speeds that’s for sure. Wish you a speedy recovery and get back to what you do best mate!
