George Orwell Animal Farm, Lord of the Flies, dystopian literature. Society as a whole. Mary Had a Little Lamb was a German Shepherd dog leading a lamb to slaughter. (Shephard and sheep). Lots of stuff like that.

Speaking of the artistry, this song started out as a straightforward flex. Well, straightforward for Ren. When it came to the video, Ren saw an opportunity to bring in one of his favorite books, Animal Farm, by George Orwell. The video is chock full of Easter eggs!

The ideas for the video came about from happenstance, but they fit the song so well. The rules written on the walls, the cows eating steaks, the gorilla in a caged area, and the animal masks fit Animal Farm (George Orwell). They actually used the masks in a couple videos (a cheap way to add drama and a certain feel to the videos). The dogs playing poker ties back to a thing that I don't know if it reached anywhere but the US, but there were a series of paintings on of dogs playing poker on black velvet. As for the horror feeling, the bike in the hallway was a shout out to The Shining. That a Kubrick horror thriller. And his look, can, and walk are inspired by A Clockwork Orange. It is also a Kubrick film. He references Kubrick a lot.

Watching this at 5am and your misheard lyrics just gave me flashbacks to a fucked up Japanese movie I watched recently. Sometimes when you read comments where people talked about how messed up a movie is, you really shouldn’t listen to your brain going “how bad can it be?” 🤦‍♀️ 😅 Anyway this might be the only Ren song where I don’t love the acoustic version even more.
