WRITING/WORK STUFF
Macbook Air. Doesn’t really need my recommendation. amzn.to/3soroc2

Mind-Reader adjustable/portable laptop desk. I LOVE this thing. Typing with my arms at an angle has drastically reduced elbow/wrist pain. amzn.to/2OYh0tX

Best writing pens, hands down. I use them every time I revise a book. amzn.to/311nRoP
Acer monitor. I kind of hate the word gamechanger but this really was that kind of purchase. amzn.to/3vH71Kh
Brother laser printer. I won’t lie, this thing is a behemoth. But I’ve had it since 2017 and I think I’ve had maybe one paper jam? It works great, it’s super consistent, A++ for printing manuscripts. amzn.to/3tzIvZE
Alphasmart Neo2. Highly highly recommend. amzn.to/3cStKui

Holy mackerel! You amaze me! Slowing down will not appear to reduce your production much at all because you have projects in hand to launch 2024. Enjoy the energy and joy! You are doing fantastic! In my seventies now, I am much slower than I’ve ever been, but I am enjoying my writing more this way. Love the vlog. Sending hugs and love. ❤️❤️❤️

Aw, thanks Regina! I'm so glad you're enjoying your writing time. I think that's my real goal - loving the process. Publishing can really strip the joy from writing and I don't want that to happen. Hope you're having a great week!

Amazing job with all these projects, Michelle! 🥳 Managing to also land an agent and go on submission despite your busy schedule is beyond inspiring. About draft zero: thank you for speaking about that, you helped me clear a bit of fog I'd been having lately as I still think it's a great idea to write a "quick draft" to get the entire plot on place and notice its weak points and connections, but I got stuck a few chapters in, feeling aimless. I'd been going over my outline, trying to figure out what wasn't working, but I think this might be it (the voice, I mean). Thanks and again great job this past year 🥰

Thanks so much! And I'm glad to hear others feel the same about the zero draft. It sounded really good in theory, but it took me a long time to realize exactly why it wasn't clicking for me.

Min 3:00 That's a great view to write. Sometimes we look at some writers, and assume they don't need critic partners... It's awesome to hear that you have one, and your relationship with them is solid. Nowadays is so hard to find one. Good luck on your goals for 2024!!! As for me, my main focus is finishing my novel-I'm about one-third of the way there. And who knows, maybe I'll also stumble upon a critique partner along the way. Fingers crossed, right? 😄

Today felt like a Wednesday, all day. After everything was done for the day I got all ready to watch what I thought would be a live stream. But I was pleasantly surprised to find you posted another vlog. 😂 Guess I "gained" a day. I've been purposely taking it easy with writing/editing these last few months just so I don't wreck myself before querying season starts. (Otherwise I'm rushing to get editing done then stuck in waiting mode for months and filled with more anxiety than I started with. lol.) On the plus side I went back to some of my old work (that series I've mentioned) and have been tinkering with rewrites on that. My style has changed since then, and I found a lot didn't resonate anymore as well as discovered several background bits the story/characters needed, so it's been a near complete rewrite of every scene. Plus adding chapter breaks, because i did not know how few I had! (For reference, it was over 200k with only 13 chapters; since being split into 2 books, the first 110k had only 8 chapters. And I thought finding that one 50 page chapter in my recent WIP was bad.🤦😵) Anyway, I'm glad to get a glimpse of the adventures you've been on. (Those pups!😍 And that sky?!) I hope it's everything you've dreamed of. All the best to you all, and I hope the rest of your week (and I guess the rest of the year! Man these months flew by!) is amazing.
@MichelleSchustermanAuthor
@MichelleSchustermanAuthor 7 месяцев назад
Ha! I love those 'bonus' days. :) That's a wise decision, taking it easy! Querying is stressful enough. Although I gotta say, rewrites like that don't sound like taking it easy! LOL (Holy moly, those are some epically long chapters!!!!) Hope you're having a great week, K!
@kanashiiookami6537
@kanashiiookami6537 7 месяцев назад
@@MichelleSchustermanAuthor oh, the rewrites are (relatively) easy because i know the story. But yeah, the chapters are huge. Just within the first original 3, I was able to get 9 chapter breaks inserted. All in natural places to break a chapter, which was good, but yeah, goes to show how much editing a story can drastically change the page/word count of things. Because this was one of those handwritten stories of mine where I marked 15 page intervals to give myself a chapter goal. The original book 1 being 181 pages, subsequent edits skyrocketing that drastically. 😂

You've had an amazingly busy year!! I managed to write books, release one after edits and revisions and have sone others in the pipeline too. Next year while I want to finish the two series I'm working on I also want to do more revision because I feel like two books at least need massive rewrites and I have a lot of books in first draft status so gonna focus on those!

I had a pretty rough year honestly. I lost my father and a mentor, both within 6 months of each other and I had a hysterectomy in May (the day after my birthday). I've been trying really hard to be gentle with myself. In October I did some solid work on an adult urban fantasy I've been working on (think Only Murders in the building meets Charmed with a darker tone). I had a critique partner that was really helping me stay on track, but she had to back out due to her own life circumstances and grief is kind of rolling back in with the holidays so the writing has stalled again. I am sure next year will be a little lighter so I'm just trying to make my way through each day with the primary goal of doing SOMETHING creative each day (lately it's been drawing).

Well last year I had finished my first draft of a historical romance novel- About 85,000 words. It's the 2nd book I've written. None published yet. This one I'd like to get published first or at least on submission first. So I'm in my 2nd revision of the novel. Not very impressive by my own standard. Was hoping to be on my third. But then again, I'm a new author and definitely a far cry from a full time writer. Success would be finishing this 2nd revision by the end of this month.

Nice place. Are you permanently homeless now or just holidaying lol. Looking back at acheivements is a good idea. That was nice of that editor...yeah maybe it counts as a reccomendation. I am happy as wrote about 10,000 words....rest of year I wrote notes and worldbuilt lol. Iam glad I am not rushing it. Zero drafts sound hard as I agree with you, it needs some voice or rythm or something to make me beleive I'm writing what's "really" happening. Even though it's fiction, I need to feel like this is atleast structurally and emotionally on a good foundation My goal 2024, draft of my sci fi...( argh I wish it would be faster but this is realistic)

Hey Michelle, did you hear about the Cait Corrain stuff on Twiiter/X? Incase you didn't, basically aa group o diverse/ bipoc authors were in a group and one member started giving the other members one star reviews on Goodreads since April. At first it was only suspected to be one of them and when this person was accused they created a fake coversation with a fake friend and too screenshots and blamed the friend. It was a huge drama on Twitter with one of the debuts making a Tik Tok vid explaining it ...then one black southern debut author called the suspected Downgrading author an albino snake, then the actually albino debut author accused the southern author of abelism, because she was friends with the one accused of giving one star reviews. Then southern author got attacked for abelism, then albino author got attacked for being friends with the bad one who did the one stars lol. It was epic. The author Cait ended up confessing and apologizing but it was a bit half hearted, blaming mental health. ( when she had 0lenty of time to admit she did the one stars and bumped her own hook up) Then she was dumped by her agent, her publisher and wow...thought I should catch you up in case you were interested
