I love how most of the “zero waste” community is past the literal meaning, if there’s something that is important to you or that you like that comes in plastic, it’s okay, there is no need for perfection. I loved that you talked about some products that you use, even if they aren’t zero waste, it just seems much more genuine and realistic 😊

I think of the literal meaning like a “guiding star”. Yes we ultimately want to have zero waste, but that’s almost impossible in our current society. So a product which lessens your waste is forward momentum towards the goal and counts as a win in my book!

@I it doesnt really take anything that isnt easily reversable for the tushy, so you probably can. Ask the landlord, if in doubt.

Something I just learned about was Matter of Trust. They collect your waste hair (from haircuts, hair that comes out when you comb/wash etc) and use it to clean up oil spills and prevent oil from getting in storm drains and into our oceans. I was going to start collecting my hair that I always lose in the shower/my hairbrush and save it to send to them. Kinda has a weird ick factor but otherwise it goes in my trash so I'd rather send it to be reused! Figured it made sense to post it on your bathroom essentials video since I loose most my hair in the shower lol

If you’re getting a lot of hair cut off you can also donate it to places that make wigs for children with cancer, that’s what I recently did when I let 3-4 years worth of hair go.

My inlaws refuse to use our bidet because they think it's weird and they say they don't want water shooting up their butt lol. My BIL gave it 1 shot but even after explaining to him how to use it and to start low, he decided to put it on the highest setting, hated it and immediately turned it off and hasn't tried it since. Ah well their losses lol

Other zero waste toothpaste with fluoride: fluoride+ UNPASTE toothtabs. they're like a little pill, you chew it and it sort of becomes like a paste then brush your teeth and spit it out

I feel like in the US, people who like to remove body hair don’t know of epilators. Although not great for people with low pain tolerance, it’s a great alternative because you don’t need shaving cream or replacement blades, and the results last for much longer!

Yessss, they're amazing, right ? Mine lasted me like ten years. It had different attachment with a shaving one and one that is used to remove the callosities on your feet (no idea of the name in English). It's so practical.

Never heard of (Im from norway). Good you're making a more eco-friendly suggestion. But really why dont people just use skissors? Thats what I use to remove body hair (mainly armpits), and it ought to be the most eco friendly because it has practically endless duration, no need for electricity or chemicals either.

@@zakosist I don't use scissors because I have thick, black armpit and pubic hair-- the scissors produce a jagged, scraggly look, and do not cut close enough to remove the look of obvious hairiness. I would use scissors if they were effective.

It is everyone's decision to shave their body hair or not, but I personally love shaving and would hate to go without it. I started using the Leaf Shaver two months ago (I absolutely did not want to use a standard safety razor especially on the intimate bits lol) and it was such an easy transition from my old razors and I love it so much! I actually learned about it from one of your old videos I stumbled on so tyvm!

My biggest advice is to (1) start with less hard areas and work up from there to get a hang of it and (2) always make sure that the twist on the back (that keeps the blades in place) is completely closed before using it. I didn't think to do that at first and at one point it loosened and the blade slipped out and cut me a little. Also, for sure get the silicone grip for the handle too. Makes all the difference!

You feel the same way about sunscreen as I do about toothpaste. I don’t care if it’s sustainable, it has to be cinnamon (i despise mint) and it has to have flouride. I have had too many cavities to be risking them in the name of sustainability.

Recommendation for my wavy/curly haired girls out there- Earthling Co Shampoo and Conditioner bars work amazing for me. CON: You do have to order online and the upfront cost can seem pricey compared to liquid shampoo, but they last a while for me! Also. EDIT- I know TJmaxx is not the best brand BUT if you live in an area that has one or don’t have other options and don’t like online shopping, they do have eco friendly brands for towels, reusable silicone baggies, bamboo toothbrushes, dish soaps, etc. so it’s still an option for those transitioning to ecofriendly options.

Not just TJMaxx but also, Marshall's and perhaps Ross. I found eco friendly towels (exact color, texture, and size) for 7 dollars each at Marshall's. I checked for the eco tags as Shelby mentioned. Felt like a huge score! I've also found eco friendly hair brushes in the beauty isle (didn't buy because I need to use what I already have).

I also use earthlingco and it is amazing! The shampoo lasts about 6 months for me and the conditioner about a year. I got my sister in-law some and she has thicker hair than me and she loves it too! She uses it on her 4 year old daughter as well! Highly recommend!

TMI but when I get a new roll of paper toilet I use the wrapper as a dog poop bag. My dog is less than 20 pounds so her poop isn't a problem for me to pick up. I don't see the point of buying plastic doggie bags if I can find an alternative. I even use news papers and unwanted mail.

Ben and Anna do toothpaste in a glass jar - I don’t know if it’s available in the US though but I think it’s widely available throughout much of Europe. (I believe it’s originally German). They have fluoride and non-fluoride options. I’m tempted to switch to tabs so I can refill the jar instead of keep recycling a jar but I hate having to chew the tabs (I might get some though and grind them into a powder and see if that’s any better).

Conditioner isn't supposed to be used on scalp. It is usually for the mid-end section. If you've been using it on your scalp it will sure make you oily

I looooooove my Tushy bidet. Funnily, I got one, used it for about a month, and then thought I didn't like it. So I unattached it and offered it to a friend. And THEN realized that I missed it. Badly. Hilarious. My friend was SOL. Now I get cranky any time I have to do my business away from home. Toilet paper is THE WORST. I'll also say that many Americans need a "how to" almost like you've done with your period routine. I'm not kidding. I had to talk to my Brazilian friends in a way I don't usually talk about things - are you pushing in or out? (don't push while spraying or it can get... messier). But I use more toilet paper because I'm all wet (answer: move to a towel, tushy even sells them!). How do I clean it (like the toilet, with your brush!). Etc.

About the comment of "taking a shower for over an hour"... It's hard to say (at least for me) to tell people to use the least amount of water as you can. I kept up with the news in my local community (in California) and it was when droughts were getting a lot of press. More and more people did end up showering less and using up less water in general, but the news later proceeded to say this forced water bills to rise (so that I guess water supply companies can maintain a profit?). While it would be great to not waste as much water as we do, I'm afraid of sacrificing lower income people to higher water bills. There must be a better solution...

I didn't know there was water bills at all (Im from Norway). And its really odd the water bill gets higher the less water is used, with electricity its the opposite. And you would think the whole point of a water bill is to discourage people from using too much water, especially in a naturally dry area. The water bill really shouldn't rise due to less use. I almost think you shouldn't use less water if that could compromise the needs of low income households. Its super important to have enough access to water. And raising water prices in the home could either way lead to people buying more bottled water, which is not good either

I use it also, and love it, but have several empty tubes I'm hoarding because I was unsure how to properly dispose of them. I'm pretty good at purchasing sustainably packaged items, but get anxiety when it comes time to send them to their final destination, like "I'm doing to do this wrong, and my sustainable choice will be for nothing if it ends up in landfill or contaminating recyclables/compost". Expert level eco-anxiety I guess 🤷‍♀

YES to bidets. My partner and I bought our first bidet just prior to the pandemic and we decided to forgo tp all together and use bum rags - we ordered some washcloths and made some out of fabric we had around; we also did not have a tp panic when supplies were low. I think everyone should try a bidet - it really is a great swap. Switching to bum rags is not for everyone and that's ok but your butthole will thank you for going with a bidet!

Thought as soon as I moved out of my family home I'd be able to get a bidet but totally forgot to check when I looked around flats if there was access to the water tank at the back of the toilet! Unfortunately it's totally built in with no way to get to it (fingers crossed we also don't get plumbing issues... 😬) So the bidet will have to wait another day!

Hi Shelbi, I personally love bidets and I installed one during the start of the pandemic. Based off of what others tell me, they don’t like the feeling or sensation of water squirting into their butt, bidets can be dirty if not regularly cleaned, the feeling is unfamiliar to them, the water is cold, and they don’t like change. For me, I’m all about change and I have a removable shower head so cleaning every part of my body is never foreign to me. Just wanted to share

Haven't bought a tushy bidet yet because we have hard water and it was messing up my gut just drinking it (even after Charcoal filter). Once we get a water Softener super excited to look into a tushy and to drink tap water again!

Bidets are LIFE. So funny you posted this today because my sister literally told me I should do a video about the bathroom because she realized that no matter what it is, if she throws something away in the bathroom, it's going in the trash.. just because it's in the bathroom! It's like a mental thing..... even the middle cardboard part of the toilet paper roll! I was shooook. But anyhow.... thanks for the video!!!

I found in a lot of goodwills in FL there are bags of toiletries and soap stuff. Ive seen a bag of like 20 Dove soap bars for sale for like $5 at goodwill. I normally purchase soap from my local health food store because they’re unpacked bars but i think i’ll start buying from goodwill since if they’re not sold they’ll probably get trashed. Also Grove collective is sold at target and they also sell little tabs for cleaners you can use just like blue land AND they sell hand soap and dish soap refills in aluminum!

I miss Who Gives a Crap, I moved to Hawaii and to ship it here is about $40 if I remember correctly, so not very sustainable for my family. I was surprised, too, by how little I can do here in Hawaii for the environment. There’s not even recycling in my city. I do have good systems in place, we buy very little and don’t use anything disposable except toilet paper if that counts 😅 but no paper towels or anything else. Anyway hey a good video idea might be state by state ideas of what we can do to help out!

OH and I got a Tushy bidet because of you. I got it as a christmas gift to my man (but also for me hehe) and we never even tried one before. Not only does he love it, but it means we hardly go through any tp and we're intending to try unTP/butt towels because we don't really need tp with it. Keepin it around for guests and also just like... as tissues because *he doesnt like hankies* but we agreed we dont need tp really.

I WANT TO ALSO MENTION A BIDET IS A GAMECHANGER DURING PERIODS LADIES i never really used much tp except on periods and you dont understand if you dont have one. You feel so much better. so much better just being clean on your period. and way less tp used up and its a blessing. I don't feel like i need a shower every 5 seconds. Get one ladies you wont regret it. changed muh life

I don't have a bidet because I would have to do construction to get one with hot water and I'm not sure I'd like one with only cold water. I dated a guy with a fancy warm one, though, and it was great.

Oh I think I might get a leaf for my partner. He LOVES the regular safety razor I got him but for *some parts* he can't use it and has to use a disposable. Its still good because it MAJORLY decreases the amount of disposables he gets (now he rarely uses it so he rarely needs to replace it) but its that motion of the razor head that he misses for it. So Leaf would do that for him... Anniversary gift : p

My wife got me a Panasonic electric razor which I like because I no longer have to use water or shaving cream. So the razor may have higher emissions, but I believe that I have more than enough lower emissions per shave which more than makes up for it. The shave is a little different though and did take some getting used to.

@@SaveMoneySavethePlanet I dont like to shave personally, but I like to trim down there so I got a similar shaver/trimmer as a gift as well, it makes my life a lot easier and before i was using a disposable razor i didnt like and being uncomfortable. Its electric but usually the parts are replaceable and it can last really long. I think if that works for you then DO IT!

It’s not perfect, but we usually use the Toms of Maine fluoride toothpaste. The tube is plastic, but it is recyclable.

What do you think about the haircare brand naples? That is what i like. It is bar shampoo and conditioner btw. If you have time to check that brand out let me know! If no thats ok! Regarding hair . I have wavy thick hair. I started not using anything to wash my hair. I just rinse in the shower when I start feeling greasy. Been doing this for a couple months. I've been digging it. Ive washed one time with shampoo since then.. Because I literally got sticky food in my hair. ✌

As far as toilet brushed go I have a plastic one too that I periodically bleach and deep clean to keep reusing it as long as I can. Is the wooden one easy to keep up in the same way or how often do you need to replace it do you think? I’ve been in the fence about buying a wooden one.

Do you have a website where you have links to all the brands you support/ agree with?? I would love that it would be like a first stop look here see if what I need has a company that is supported. Also I know I'm a new Subscriber but your previous experience working with sustainability, not shaving but still looking well put together and sexy is a huge part of why I'm here. @@Amy_Stanmore did cleaning your shower get harder cause of bar soap? I never noticed any difference really. I use blue land multi surface cleaner and a sponge then I wipe it dry with a rag and stuff comes right off.

@@Amy_Stanmore my family has used drugstore liquid wash, dove body bar, eco friendly body bars, and eco friendly liquid soap, and noticed zero difference. Wonder if it’s because of your water.
