My Zwift 100 mile bike ride was surprisingly similar to a 100 mile bike ride in the real world. I experienced the typical century ride highs and lows, sweat like crazy, and at one point asked myself, "Why in the hell am I doing this?"
In this video I share my Zwift 100 mile bike ride experience, indoor 100 mile bike ride lessons learned and provide a few tips and tricks to help you for your first Zwift century, or century in the real world.

Great share. I really enjoyed this and am inspired to try the 100 for the first time… or it could be that I’ve just had a beer

I've done a 2 hour specific ride on my training system. Hsts off to you because that was tough to do.

Chano, the full boat on a trainer is a mental and physical challenge for sure. Be safe out there my friend..

100?! I have trouble doing more than 15. Just hurts mostly the groin area. Im surprised that you dont have a rocker plate.

@sanwuch (love the handle 🤣) believe it or not, a century on a trainer is more mentally painful than physically. To be clear, I did it in the winter season so had time indoors to build up tolerance. As for rocker plate, would be nice, my only out is the KickR Climb on Zwift so there was at least a little realism and movement. Thanks for your comment!

Loepan, thank you for your kind words and sub. Much appreciated. Are you working up to a century Zwift or in real life? 🤓

@@ErniesCyclingObsession Most done is around 60miles real world, but recently came off the bike and thinking of doing it on Zwift as part of my recovery 👍🏻 Cheers for the inspiration

@@lo-panI’m glad you are well and are recovering nicely. A Zwift century is definitely doable on a 60 mile base. As suggested in the video, mental fatigue is the biggest challenge. The physical part takes care of itself if you have the will and determination. Oh, bring on an extra fan and drink 50% more than you normally would. On the trainer you sweat a lot more so the extra fluids will keep you humming. Good luck!

It wasn’t as bad as you would think. It was a cold winters day and Rona ruled the lands…😜

I’m new on a road bike from bmx my life and I can surprisingly crush 40miles with lots of elevation gain in Colorado. What will a trainer help with? I have a really high goal but no knowledge

Germmies, BMX is an excellent base for road cycling as evidenced by your ability to ride in Colorado. For you, a trainer would eliminate barriers to riding or workout consistency. Why is that? Smart trainers and their supporting software, along with resistance trainers, allow you to do workouts consistently time and again without worry for weather, traffic, or bike buds throwing you a challenge. For example, if you wanted to increase your functional threshold power (FTP), you could develop a series of targeted high intensity interval training workouts specifically designed to build your FTP. Do you need a trainer to do this? No. You can do any workout in the real world given the space and a bit of watchfulness on your behalf. I typically use my trainer in the winter when it gets dark at 5:30 pm, is cold, or is raining monsoon style. I also use my trainer to prepare for rides with differing topography than is near my home for example elevation in Colorado. Take a look at this video as well, it walks the path of my experience with a Wahoo KicR Core and Climb Smart Trainer ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BdX88x96mS8.html . Be safe out there and apologies for the lengthy reply.

@@ErniesCyclingObsession I really appreciate the reply. I got a trainer from a buddy through this winter once it hits. I’m great at interval workouts from wrestling so really looking forward to seeing a true growth. The mental change to being stationed on a bike is a challenging obstacle in its self. Few more weeks of great weather so haven’t spent to much time on trainer yet. Enjoying the ride before the grind to being aggressive and competitive in races next summer! Thank you very much for response
