I would wear a tuxedo with a starched wing collar.

I'd wear a faded long-sleeved button front denim shirt, high waisted corduroy, suspenders, utility style boots, and a flat cap.

I think I'd be more comfortable in working class dress.

Piper (great name by the way!), I see that your waist coat has lapels. Is that a 1920s style hallmark or did they wear waist coats w/o lapels back then too. I’m looking at buying a Harris Tweed one on EBay that doesn’t have lapels. It’s for everyday wear on our occasionally cool days in Florida. I’m just wondering if it would also work for my next Jazz Age occasion. Thanks; love your videos!!!

Hi Eddie, Thanks for the great question. While a prominent feature on many waistcoats during the 20s, the lapels were likely a detail carried forward from the original waistcoats in the 1600s- but not strictly a hallmark of the era. The twenties saw a large variety of waistcoat styles- many without lapels- so not having lapels shouldn’t take away from the period aesthetic for a jazz age party.

ethanbodybuilder I purchased these spats from an artist on Etsy. Unfortunately, her shop no longer exists. If you watch the “let’s talk about spats” video, I list a few other shops that sell spats - look in the video description for links.

Did they call 'vests' waistcoats as late as the 20th century??

Absolutely. And both terms are still widely used to refer to the same article of clothing. However, it is more common to hear/use the term Waistcoat in Northern Europe while Vest is a more common term in the USA.
