I even wear these over sweaters that are too long, specially when I wear them under a jacket. Life changing for me.

I've heard people online call them "gimmicky" but I personally do wear sleeve garters with dress shirts, and only gotten compliments. I find them useful if my shirt isn't custom fit
@sampletext3433

let's be honest - not everyone can afford a custom shirt, and looking for a perfectly matched sleeve lenght is almost impossible. Let's rub the noses of menswear conservatists and experiment with our own choice.

@@sampletext3433 Since I made this comment, I wore some silver toned sleeve garters to a wedding under a jacket. A friend of mine saw them at one point and immediately remarked on how her grandfather (very sadly missed) wore the same and she was delighted.

I just found out about these sleeve garters today. I figured something of the kind existed but this was interesting. I sewed my own out of some leftover garters from Ma's kit, and it really does make a difference. All those too large and baggy shirts certainly look tasteful now. I think they're great!

I recently bought sleeve garters because I have long arms. I usually have to buy dress shirts large for the sleeves and have the body tailored to fit. I am prior military so when/if I roll my sleeves it is in a four finger roll which just doesn’t fit the casual/formal style I’m looking for. I enjoy the casual roll sleeve garters provide with a very neat appearance. I had seen them in movies but have never known the history or functionality behind them. Thank you so much for the video as it provides me with knowledge and concept as to what I’m wearing and therefore reflects on how I wear them. Brilliant video!

Started wearing my dad's arm garters recently. He purchased it in 1984 when he was getting called to the Nigerian Bar. Am the only one that wears it in a court room and people say I look awesome. I love your video.

I enjoyed learning about this. I was watching All Creatures Great and Small on PBS last night and noticed the men wore these. I’ve seen them a lot in tv shoes but decided to Google it and your video came up.

I had no idea these were a thing. Just ordered some and eager to try them, as all my shirts are second hand and I haven't gotten around to altering them.

I personally wear them with the sleeves rolled up, but not past the elbow - I then wear the garters around the bicep. Working in a cocktail bar with a dickie bow and denim apron, i find the look rather well tied together.

While it may not be "correct", I made myself a pair by hand and have found the most comfortable and practical way to wear them is over the cuff of rolled up sleeves. It's not traditional by any means but it prevents the roll from coming undone and holds the shirt in place excellently. Typically I wear them in the ordinary fashion at the start of the day and simply reposition them to my preferred style if I feel the need to roll my sleeves up past the elbow. I figure if I intend for them to be practical it doesn't matter how they were used historically so long as they work for me, and indeed they do.

Started wearing them, literally today, as a taller chap sleeves are always very long and I have to make awkward movements to for example look at me watch, the ole arm thrust in front of me or dragging my sleeve up, I've taken to wearing them so as to leave my watch exposed easily, and on the other arm just to match, as it happens I do wear a waistcoat in the cooler months with a pocket watch but that's often not so practical when it's warm.

I wear them for cosmetic purposes only. They just look really cool on a dress shirt and in the event I have to pull my sleeves back to do some dirty work I have the garters to fall back on.

I’m here because the last time I tried using them, they didn’t seem to work, so I wondered what I got wrong. It doesn’t even look difficult at all. I was in a hurry mind you. Maybe that’s why.

Thanks for this; after your last video on sleeve garters I bought a pair and wear them quite a lot. My shirts are hand-made but the bell cuffs tend to get in my way so the garters have been very useful. Could you possibly do a video on how to fold pocket squares as I like them a lot but the folding remains a mystery to me...
@my1928
@my1928 4 года назад
André Linoge - Happy to hear that you’ve found the videos and the sleeve garters useful. Do you make your own shirts? A video on pocket square folds is a great idea. Thank you for the suggestion.

@@my1928 Hi, there, I get my shirts made by a lady in Bulgaria but she turns them around really fast. The first three arrived within seven days of placing my order. They're really comfortable and fit great. I really like your style, my friend. Your clothes look fantastic. All the best A

I wore a pair of sleeve garters that my late father gave me today ,in my local pub, a couple asked me what they were for, and I explained that I used them to get the correct sleeve length on my granddad shirt as the sleeve is too longer , they had never seen them before 🇬🇧

I've been wearing sock suspenders aka sock garters for a little over a month now and 90% of people at work either stop me to ask what they are or why I have them or just comment on them, it's pretty funny. I got them because I thought it was ridiculous and funny.

I don't wear sleeve garters and I've never seen anyone wear one. I LOVE your coverage on the history of garters, but with shirts being made in different sizes, men don't need garters to adjust sleeve sizes anymore. But thank you for making this video, anyway.

I may be late, but I do hope you see this question for you to answer. Now I am thinking of buying two sets of sleeve garters. One silver, and another gold, but I notice there are some cheaper ones made in China and some vintage ones. Both are affordable price, but I am wondering out of thought if I should avoid Chinese-made ones if there is a chance they might not last long, or they will ware out in a short time. Instead, get the antique ones where the quality might be higher and will last longer. Another question is some vintage ones, i noticed some of them have decorative butterfly emblems on them, and some with an emblem of two "G" which I will presume it some kind of bran, so anything you can tell me about that please do.

What’s your opinion on more solid options? Like Sprung link sleeve garters specifically Regnum, and Lambournes? (Selling on eBay from £50-£80) obviously not the most affordable but would you ever use those over the more elastic ones for some extra vintage style points? Also what about full leather arm garters which basically look like belts for your arms. One shop used to heavily promote theirs but they only have images left on Pinterest now so you would need to custom order from a leather worker these days which is what I’m currently doing even though I know they won’t be as easy to get on. I’d love a second opinion on these specifically since nobody really talks about sleeve garters of any type anymore at least in English as they’re mostly used by Japanese office workers these days (apparently) who want to keep their sleeves at bay when typing.

Thanks for the question SneakyCrocodile. I have worn a pair of the sprung link sleeve garters ( I believe they were Lambourne's ) and enjoyed them - However, because of their cost, I do not own a pair at present. That said, I would like to do an extensive 'wear and compare' before I can offer an accuarate review or recommendation. As for the full leather sleeve garters - I am familiar with the ones you are referring to. I like the idea of leather sleeve garters - but I have my doubts as to their comfort and functionality during actual use. I would love to hear your thoughts on them when yours are finished.

I just recycled a pair of hanes boxer briefs cut out its garter section into 2 parts & sewed it together to make my own sleeve garters. Is that an ok method doe aside from buying real ones especially since I'm on a student budget?

Is it acceptable to wear these without a jacket? I have a western shirt with sleeves several inches too long that I otherwise like.

How to clean sleeve garters? Mine looks dull after using it for some time. Not as shiny as before
@ihavekalashnikovyoudomath9275
I can also see this useful for bartenders. You don't want wet or dirty cuffs, or have them always getting in the way of your hands
