Myanmar civil war has major ramifications for China and the world at large. China wants access to Myanmar ports due to their proximity to the strait, as it gives them an easier way of moving Chinese goods in parts of the country that aren’t anywhere near their own domestic ports, as well as a secondary stop for their African bound shipments. Militarily with close access to the strait, it allows naval forces access to the entire Indian and Atlantic Ocean, and with growing tensions between India and China, it’s a strategically vital coastline for both nations to project power.
Video Edited by: Michael Michaelides
Written by: Chris Cappy and Justin Taylor
Arguably more important however, are Myanmar’s large deposits of rare earth metals, critical for the manufacturing of complex electrical components from smart phones to guidance systems for hypersonic missiles. China needs these resources in order to keep its technology production afloat as they currently stand as the world’s largest producer and refiner of rare earth minerals. This, to China, is not an economic edge that they can afford to lose.
To take advantage of both mining, and coastal access, Myanmar was an early target for China’s Belt and Road initiative. China began the construction of desperately needed infrastructure, new cities, as well as a deep water port in Kyaukphyu, which would allow them to bypass the strait of Malacca for oil importation.

Myanmar is an absolutely beautiful country. True, Myanmar people are honest, friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, the vast majority of the people had suffered at no fault of their own for way back from centuries-long Anglo British Colonialism, followed by decades long Anglo Western boycott & sanction. Speaking of the coups in Burma and some others around the world today are totally different from the coups which took place over half a century earlier when newly independent nations, including Burma, just came out of centuries-long Colonialism, bitter and poverty-stricken, turned to a new deal of Social-Democratic system (Socialism/Communism). - Today's coups, in most cases, are changes in the political system only, while the economic system is mostly left intact. Like I said, today's coups, in nations such as South Korea, the Philippines & Thailand, in most cases, are changes in the political sector only, while the economic/investment sectors are mostly left intact. - So what is this the fact that the West & their Western news media hardly utter a negative word about coups in Asian nations such as South Korea & the Philippines in the past and Thailand today; and yet the West, Western news media and their affiliates hardly have a day goes by without having negative comments & reactions regarding coup in Myanmar. May I ask why are they treating it so differently with Myanmar and most of all, what are they up to, what is their truth motives behind all these? - Speaking of USA-led joint annual military exercise in Thailand, which has been under military coup since 2014, and true, last August 2021/22, the largest annual military exercise was held among full participating nations, USA, Thailand, South Korea, Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia & Singapore.. [For more, pls read the informative multi-pages comments by 'Ms. Gregoria' at, "Myanmar remains in social and economic crisis since military seized power/BBC News"... It's on RU-vid]. Moreover, I agree that Burma would have been much better off without Anglo British Colonialism. For instance, there's hardly any Muslim, Hindu or Christian there up until Colonialism. True, it's fair to say that many of these tragedies that nation facing today, such as racial, ethnic and religious conflicts, started with Colonialism. 😔 Speaking of ethnic and religious tragedies Burma facing today, the fact that the world's longest Civil War which is in Myanmar, mainly between Buddhist Burmese and Christian Karen (while Buddhist Karen are largely at peace) was made it possible, prolonged and supported by Anglo Clans of USA, UK & Australia, etc while they are using next-door neighbor Thailand (which has a defense treaty with them) as a base camp since in the 1950. In my humble opinion, ethnic Karen refugees fleeing the conflict/war in Myanmar are entitled to cross over to Thailand to stay, as well as eligibility to relocate to new places such as USA, Australia. - The fact that the world's longest Civil War which is in Myanmar, mainly between Buddhist Burmese and Christian Karen (while Buddhist Karen are largely at peace) was made it possible, prolonged and supported by Anglo Clans of USA, UK & Australia, etc while they are using next-door neighbor Thailand (which has a defense treaty with them) as a base camp since in the 1950. In the '60s and '70s, using Thailand as a base camp, attack against nearby Laos & Cambodia were launched during Indochina war where several millions innocent civilians were killed. - Colonialism & Colonization are evil things done and benefited by evildoers.. Here in Singapore, a tiny island with 6 million souls lives like sardines in a can, where else in nearby vast bountiful Australia which is ten thousand times 10,000 bigger with a mere 27 million inhabitants. Similar situation in tiny and packed Japan, which is running out of space and land. Do you know that their living room and bedroom are the same place, and that most Japanese people sleep in their living room. - Here's the one solution. Why don't Burma's Muslim, Hindu & Christian population, if they wish, move to place like Anglo Colonized vast bountiful Australia/New Zealand in Asia-Pacific region? After all, these are Asia-Pacific lands looted from Native Asians-Pacific people. 😔

'Anglo caused most of the world's problems.' - David Cameron, former British Prime Minister Anglo clans practiced centuries-long Slavery; from Caribbean to North & South America, by wiping out indigenous Native people originally living there, by replacing them with millions of slaves brought from Africa, by enslaving them and living off on their blood and sweat. Isn't it shocking to learn that Anglo clans invaded nine out of ten nations, all but 22 nations in the whole wide world? Anglo practiced centuries-long Colonialism in over 50 nations, by living off on their blood and sweat, as well as on those bountiful lands for natural mineral resources, which were essentials requirement for the industrial revolution. Anglo still Colonized many parts of the world, including two vast bountiful landmasses; North America and Australia. Among the five main Anglo nations of Britain, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, all but Britain were looted from others.

I could not agree more! This channel really is amazing. Whenever there is a mispronunciation in the narrative, I have to grin at how truly un-pretentious this guy is - while being the kind of powerhouse who blows the doors off the so called “intellectuals” running most media. It points to something that is missing just about everywhere else; substance over style. I am here for the facts and analysis. If, for example, I really need to have the correct pronunciation of that small town in the Ukrainian countryside I am going to go to a Ukrainian language source anyway - not CNN. I like the green screen gags, one liners and the contrasting, deadly seriousness about certain things. The occasional rough edges in Cappy’s presentation I hear as a kind of “Fuuck youu Tony!” to mainstream media.

I do wonder why Canadas Trudeau felt the need to get involved with Myanmars situation. Back in 2017 I think the CBC talked for weeks straight about how the Rohingia Muslims were being treated so badly. Then for some reason felt the need to strip Ang San Su Ky of her honourary Canadian citizenship over these same Muslims. A few years later when China was persecuting Uihger Muslims Canadas Trudeau refused to condemn China. Many Canadians suspect our current government of aiding China even to the detriment of we the people of Canada. I have been curious how this all fit together. Excuse my Anglo spelling of Asian names.

You are right. Myanmar has never truly been unified. Most dynasties would seldom last long before they either resulted in a coup or outright war (or in the case of the Konbaung, get thoroughly creamed by the British Empire). And as Mr Capuletto mentioned but implied, the Bamar do not truly like the Chinese, having been invaded many times before - once, under the Yuan, and one more time, again, under the Qing dynasty. I would, as an ethnic Chinese, label Myanmar as the Qing's Afghanistan or Iraq. Hopefully though the Americans will evade the same fate as the Qing - even though the Qing "won", they lost many soldiers, and more importantly, suffered an economic downturn. This meant that after Qianlong, Qing control over China would wane until that fateful year, 1911.

That's one of the major problems with strongman politics that countries like China and Russia rely on. They need an image of invulnerability and they need to be feared and respected to remain in power so any failure can be catastrophic. That's also why when anything goes wrong they have a tendency to scapegoat underling(s) or enemies. There were several causes but that was a big part of why the USSR collapsed after Afghanistan: a few of their satellite states had tried distancing themselves from Moscow (famously Hungary and Czechoslovakia) and after being violently crushed it kept the rest in line but once the Soviets failed in Afghanistan they started testing the waters with protests and when those werent crushed it created a wave of protests that killed the Soviet empire. The Soviets could, like many dictatorships with strongman leaders, weather economic crises and endure mass casualties from war or famine, but they couldnt survive losing their air of invulnerability. Putin is in the same situation with Ukraine. This is also why they're often unwilling to admit defeat in war and try to solve the problem by sending waves of men and material until they win or run out of assets to throw at the problem. It creates a situation where every protest, every war, every failing major program is an existential crises.

Like I read it earlier, I agree that Burma would have been much better off without Anglo British Colonialism. After all, these are Asia-Pacific lands looted from Native Asians-Pacific people." 😔 Speaking of the coups in Burma and some others around the world today are totally different from the coups which took place over half a century earlier when newly independent nations, including Burma, just came out of centuries-long Colonialism, bitter and poverty-stricken, turned to a new deal of Social-Democratic system (Socialism/Communism). - Speaking of USA-led joint annual military exercise in Thailand, which has been under military coup since 2014, and true, last August 2021/22, the largest annual military exercise was held among full participating nations, USA, Thailand, South Korea, Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia & Singapore.

Thank you for this summary of the situation in Myanmar. I wish more people were aware of the plight of the people there. If you do any episodes on the country in the future and need help with pronunciation I'm happy to help. I lived there 2005 to 2012 and am married to a Myanmar citizen (Kachin). Here are a few pointers: Myanmar - You did this well, just don't pronounce the final R. The spelling comes from the Brits who wouldn't pronounce it. The "my" at the beginning is like the beginning of "music" - you nailed that part. Neither syllable is accented. Tatmadaw - tat-muh-daw (last part rhymes with law) Ne Win - Also spelled Nay Win and pronounced like that, though maybe "Neh Win" is closer. His grandson was in a class I taught and had the same name. Bamar people don't have surnames per se, so calling him General Win isn't common. Just say General Ne Win. Kyaukpyu - Jowk Pyoo. The "ky" makes a "j" sound in Burmese and the "au" in this case is close to the "ow" in cow. That first syllable is aggressively accented. "Pyu" is like a church pew. Aung San - The "au" is the same as above, so it's close to "owng sahn". Great job overall!

You cannot be best friend with ruizza (Mordor), and China, at the same time. "Friend" you can be, it means you are subordinate and cant do anything. Remember Cambodia? The Khmer Rouge, supported by Russia, and being communist (or so they said), were attacked by China after 2 or 3 years if I am tright... alliances can change...Burma (Myanmar) would probably be better off choosing a way that is in parallel with Thailand... just an european opinion (born in India)

The anti-junta factions have been rapidly improving their homebrewed firearms providing evidence of the futility of gun control. They're being supported by the CIA and every other 3 letter agency in the collective West. It's not exactly easy to get your hands on high quality 3d printing equipment and expertise in manufacturing firearms with them because the entire process itself is not as easy as 2d printing on a piece of paper, and all of this in a country like Burma LOL. The deposed "democratic" leader Aung San Suu Kyi was a tool of the US empire, the NED even "honored" her for being the best puppet of the year award.
