Ever heard of orchids with no leaves or chlorophyll?
Well, Lecanorchis multiflora is one.
Lecanorchis multiflora is a mycoheterotroph. Often confused with parasites or saphrophytes, mycoheterotrophs are distinct in that they are plants which get their nutrients from fungi which decompose leaf litter.
Lecanorchis multiflora is a relatively common mycoheterotrophic orchid in Peninsular Malaysia. However due to its dull colour, twig like appearance and preference of growing in shaded areas covered in leaf litter, it is well camouflaged and is easily missed.
