Oh wow, they look and work amazingly well Paul. I feel for you lifting it on your own. I had to lift my Colchester on my own when I was trying to level it. I used the engine crane and it struggled lifting the tail stock end LOL. Those blocks will make cleaning a breeze now. Cheers, Aaron

Hi again Paul. Those are some very nice risers for the lathe. I had heard of them before, but never seen them. It's great that those leveling jacks are built in. Having the lathe a bit taller will give you plenty of room for chips below, and room around the carriage wheel etc for your hand. This is all great info for when I (eventually) do the installation of the emco, and I may end up making something very similar for that machine. I'm 187cm or 6'2", so any extra height on my machines is most welcome. This video has been very helpful - thanks Paul. One more thing: CONGRATULATIONS on reaching 500 subscribers! 1000 is just around the corner. :-)

They would be perfect for a slightly warped table top... the surface my lathe is on is wooden and has been there for many years so had done the majority of it moving around so this worked very will in getting everything level and parallel. You are right, those raiser block make it so much easier to clean and work around the lathe. You did very well to lift that on yourself. We are at a crossover stage, with dad finding it harder to lift heavy stuff and I'm not yet strong enough. We are starting to think about better ways to lift heavy items

I know you are not that far away, one day you will have to come down to me shed and pick up some round stock, as you know, I do come across it regular. I really have to get back to my S7 project. That is a very nice lathe you have there. Duckboards are very good for the feet if you have to stand at a machine for any length of time I can tell you this from experience.

hi Paul nicely thought through, you may have to put a test bar in the chuck to check for run out / taper, the bed casting may / usually twist very slighlty giving a taper when turning, just a thought, i had to do that to mine to remove a slight tapering see you next time and nice to see you back in workshop regards mr f

That is a very nicely-cared for lathe, it looks in great shape. As for the blocks, not sure how tall you are or how high the work bench is (please forgive me if you mentioned it in an earlier video, I have the memory of a goldfish since having kids) but I found that adding a bit of height to my lathe made it much more comfortable to use.

Hello Everett, The lathe is very original but does have a few minor problems that need addressing, which I will do over time... I am 5'6" so things don't have to increase to much before they become a problem - lol, but the current setup is very good... Take care. Paul,,

They worked well in leveling your lathe, Paul. When I saw riser blocks on your video title, I was actually thinking of the machined blocks under your headstock and tailstock to increase turning capacity. I think that Enco offered those as a Unimat accessory.

that lathe really looks clean and well taken care of,, I know everyone wants the lathe very level,, but I never knew why that is so important,,, can you tell me why that is critical?

Hello Vernon, I did spend quite a while cleaning the lathe when I first got it which did expose quite a lot of ware but I don't really know how much is expected for a lathe made in 1966. Having the lathe level is important to try and avoid any twisting of the bed leading to misalignment of the headstock and tailstock, that could lead to unwanted tapers being turned. G’day Paul. Am I right to understand the risers are not standard fitment, without them I’d drag my knuckles each time I turn the travel wheel and how are you suppose to clean under it without them. Well done with your methodical way of setting it up on the risers, car jacks do come in handy. Cheers Peter

Hello Peter, It would appear that the lathe did not come with the raiser blocks but they came with the Myford steel cabinets... Mine did not come with the lathe. It does seem a little strange to not supply them with the lathe. Take care. Paul,,

just dont seem to be able to get raising blocks for the myford m.l 10, I dont think the twisting aspect come in on that one because it only has one rail bed. May have to make them out of wood.
