Please try to seek out a healthcare provider who has experience with treating hyperhidrosis. Feel free to use our Clinician Finder on SweatHelp.org, which is comprised of medical professionals who have experience with or interest in treating excessive sweating. Those who have attended at least one of our training seminars (their profile will be marked "IHhS Educated") should be especially empathetic as we devote an entire lecture to the impact of hyperhidrosis to help providers gain an even deeper understanding of the patient perspective and journey. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us directly at Info@SweatHelp.org.

I was very moved by your honesty and courage. I am 60 years old and have lived with palmar and plantar hyperhidrosis since I was very young. Similar to your story, I had a very sad childhood. My mother told me to "hide it" as best I could, and I felt very isolated and defective. On top of it all, I had severe eczema, especially on my hands. I was bullied - called "slimey" by my siblings and neighborhood kids. Was told I would never get a boyfriend or get married.. As a teen in the early seventies, I was part of an experimental group at John Hopkins to test iontophoresis, which unfortunately didn't work for me. I always wanted a career in medicine, but knew there was no way I could ever touch a patient. I didn't think I could manage a baby with wet hands, so opted not to have children. I can honestly say that this condition, for better and for worse, has dictated the majority of my life's story. Thank you for sharing your story, your hope and inspiration. The world can be a better place for today's HH kids.

We are with you, Caryn. I have it too.... School was so hard, I withdrew into myself. As I get older (38) I find it is slowing down. Also we moved to Calgary from Ontario... The humidity levels are different, and I find it much better out west as the humidity isn't as bad. My hyperhydrosis is my face, my underarms, and my groin (only slightly, thank goodness) . I feel the struggles, and I am glad for the international hyperhydrosis community.

I am literally in tears watching this. I have been suffering from hyperhidrosis since I was small. It didn't affect me much until high school and now that I got into med school my worries about it affecting my profession and social interactions keeps on increasing. None of my family and close friends understand how much I suffer because of it. I have been to many doctors as well and got nothing out of it except an expensive antiperspirant that doesn't work when you want it to. I can't even focus on my car driving lessons because of this condition and I can't help but feel sad that I am cursed with a disorder that has no proper treatment and awareness, be it medically or socially. You are so brave to speak about it Caryn. Kudos to you.

i found caryn because i was looking up how people with hyperhidrosis deal with wooden instruments. piccolos are NOT cheap, and i don't want to pay thousands of dollars just to wreck my instrument. i already have the same issue with my flute, but i'm not made of money! i also have a bass guitar that i'm afraid to play because i don't want to destroy the neck or have to be constantly replacing strings!! it's truly so frustrating how this affects literally aspect of my life from work, all the papers i work with getting wet and curling (and i work with a LOT of paper), to relationships because everything i touch is wet and that makes people uncomfortable/grossed out, to my hobbies! things that should relax me! have you ever crocheted when there's any amount of moisture on your crochet hook or the yarn?? every time it squeaks i want to give up used to fold origami when i was younger, but the more complicated pieces require folding and refolding and within a few refolds, the paper is melted away and unusable even petting animals! lifting your hand to see it covered in fur that you can't just brush off, or matting down the animal's fur which you KNOW other people will find disgusting or playing games! my mouse is worn down and sharing controllers with friends is always so embarrassing the list really goes on and it's SO frustrating

Thank you for sharing. It's not easy. But, here you'll find a community of folks who understand exactly what you are going through. If you have not yet looked into treatments, please feel free to head over to www.SweatHelp.org/Treatments for a chart which lists the treatment options for the body areas that primary focal hyperhidrosis can affect. You'll also find details about each treatment option within our Treatments section. And, be sure to search our Clinician Finder (www.SweatHelp.org/Search) to locate a hyperhidrosis-aware medical provider in your area who can help with a treatment plan that is appropriate for you. We received a great tip from soggy_person_ on Reddit that artists gloves may help with any paper handling issues that one with sweaty hands may experience. You can also sign up for our free news blog to get the latest developments in treatments, helpful tips, and other opportunities.

I am from West Africa Liberia. Since I was kid I started to know that I have excessive sweating palms and feet. When I was in my 13 years I started to do research on my excessive sweating, that's when I got to know that I am a HH patient. After my research I knew that it is not much dangerous, it is just a disorder. Then that actually help me to move on with life. Now I am 19 years old. As I told my father he said it will leave me bit by bit but for now I am still going through it. I hope it leaves me one day by the grace of God.

Thank you for your story! I've been living with hyperhydrosis myself. I started noticing symptoms when I was 15, and the sweating was mainly from the armpits. Now that I am 26, I feel it spreading into more part of my body, more from the armpits but also from my face, hands and feet and sometimes my chest. Every day, I feel the same way you do, and I try to stay at home as much as possible to avoid embarassing situations. I recently moved to Toronto, and I found about a permanent treatment called Miradry. It seemed like it worked for the first two weeks. But after the swelling stoped, everything went back to normal. Thank you for sharing your story!

Hi i do understand. I sweat excessively and uncontrollably on my entire back, neck, stomach and forehead. I am in my 40s but it started when i was 12 in junior high school. I remember wearing a cotton shirt and vest in September. During a school fire drill i just started sweating and couldn't stop. My clothes was soaked and i was so embarrassed. Of course the kids laughed at me. This happened many times throughout life. I learned wearing black covered it best. It is so uncomfortable and embarrassing. Especially as a female. We expect men to sweat. I sweat 10xs more than a man. I dont wear red, yellow, orange or colors which would show sweat stains. It's always embarrassing when someone touches or hugs me and im soaking wet. Women are supposed to feel sexy and sweating profusely makes me feel unattractive and unlady like. I only told one friend. I never told anyone. Not even my mom. Even though im sure they noticed. It is so embarrassing. I would love to wear a red dress or a orange top especially in the summer. I didn't seem certain job positions because the dress code was a light colored or white shirt

wow I'm only in my teens but have had this for 2 years, and I already have felt the limitations it has put on my life. I can only wear black and very few dresses that are other colors depending on the style and fabric. I can't just work anywhere I want. And I feel like I can't every have a boyfriend until I find a way to fix it. I can definitely relate as a girl. Caryn, Excellent video on sweathelp.org describing the nuisance of hyperhidrosis! My hyperhidrosis in hands and feet began in middle school many moons ago and all the treatments I have tried have not succeeded from drysol to ionic pads. My sweat drips just the same as yours. Some say stress is what causes excessive sweating but I disagree since for me there is nothing stressing about working on a multimillion dollar F-111 fighter jet and fixing it or for that matter fixing my own vehicles. While it is annoying having to shake someone's hand or holding my wife's hand, the sweating became very beneficial from keeping the grease and grime from sticking to my skin. :p) Now I work behind a desk and keep a small fan by the mouse and keyboard. In my situation it's not hereditary. No one on my paternal or maternal side of the family have it. My children do not have it either. Wishing you a blessed day!

Did you ever experience new sweating? My doctors had informed me that this surgery there’s the treat of the Hh coming back just in a new location.
@joshdionne1364
@joshdionne1364 4 года назад
Megan Johnson. No, and if I do, it’s minor. I think I may sweat more now in the stomach and back but only notice it when doing physical activities which I’m more than ok with. I sweat a ton when exercising regardless and always have. I was told all of the same possible outcomes as you but the HH in my hands was so severe that I was willing to take my chances. I know everyone seems to have their own experiences and opinions regarding procedure but mine completely changed my life (for the better)

Forgive me if this is insensitive, but why don't you just wear gloves? My friend in middle school was in marching band and she had to play her instrument with gloves on (even though she complained about it). You could probably even choose some beautiful ones to match your dress when you perform. Same for daily life. I actually wear gloves a lot, even during the summer (long story). Still I'm sorry to hear about your condition.
@maried3503
@maried3503 4 года назад
Gloves wouldn't be enough. Some individuals with severe HH such as dripping hands can easily sweat through a roll of towel. Wet sticky gloves is worse than wet hands.
@WeKnowSweat
@WeKnowSweat 2 года назад
It's likely that the sweat would soak the gloves quickly and then drip down.
