Saw him open for Leslie West and Mountain. He walked on stage wearing a red jump suit, with a cross on the back, announcing himself; hi, I'm Mylon LeFevre, and this my band, Holy Smoke. Then he tore the place up. A vivid memory
I "discovered" Mylon and Broken Heart in 1983. I have heard about the Holy Smoke group, but never heard them preform. Love it. I have seen Broken Heart in concert several times, one of the best, and most sincere Christian music ministries I have ever seen. Thank you for posting!
I'm in my 70s now but I agree, Mylon and Broken Heart was one of the best concerts I've ever attended. Also, this Holy Smoke video is a real find...never seen this before.
@Deb Harris I am not sure, but I believe it was a group from the church Mylon was attending at the time, soon after he gave his life to the Lord, in Atlanta, GA.
I met Mylan back in the day at the Son Festival in Myrtle Beach South Carolina back in 83. I even got to sit down and talk to him. Mylon Lefevre is the real deal. His tent was filled with peace and love from the holy spirit 💖 ❤️
Mylon LeFevre and Broken Heart were amazing! I saw them live 4 or 5 times in the 80s, and volunteered as a set crew helper at a couple of shows in Connecticut as I was part of the ministry, Sonshine Productions, which brought Christian rock bands to Connecticut. In one of those instances, I recall how at one of the Connecticut shows, I watched from backstage as Gayle King (Oprah's friend) did a live, remote interview (she in the studio and Mylon on the stage before the concert) of Mylon for the Channel 3 in Hartford, six o'clock Newscast (Gayle was an anchor at Channel 3 back in those days). Great memories!
Wow, I was but a wee lass then! I do remember going to his concert in the 80's when he was with Broken Heart. Had a Mylon LeFevre and Broken Heart t-shirt!
Hey, Alvin was a country boy just like Mylon from across the pond! They had similar backgrounds. Same way Eric Clapton found a kinship with Duane Allman. Country boys exist everywhere!
What's great about this stuff compared to most Christian rock, is that most Christian rock is just rock music with religious lyrics; what we here in this video is rock and roll with a genuine gospel feel. Mylon had a long history in traditional gospel music, so that blend was only natural for him.
Too bad he was stung out on various drugs during this era. And below, a person with the handle "vidform" talks about how sexy he is. Interesting that she finds a person, who has his demeanor and behavior influenced by illicit drugs, to be "sexy." That helps explain why so many guys do drugs (chicks dig it) and why so many girls have their lives ruined (by getting involved with a druggie).
I doubt that he was "strung out"; he probably smoked pot, that was common back then, don't know what else he might have done, don't really care, it's the music that matters.
Bubba Davis What is interesting is how people who call themselves Christian can so easily judge others especially something that supposedly happened over 40 years ago!
Ray B I was simply pointing out a fact. He admits himself that he was using drug on a fairly regular basis until around 1980. And yes, it is too bad he was using hard drugs like that, could have been even better. My comment on the women's seeming love of druggies with a guitar (or drum sticks) was simply a commentary on our culture at large.
Wow! What a find! If I'm not mistaken a few members here went on form The Atlanta Rhythm Section. Too bad this footage can't get into the hands of the fans. Some real rock history here!
Thank you for posting! Never seen this footage before! ☺️Love it! Found him in 1982 when he sang “MORE” on the radio station. Went straight to the store & bot the album. Thank you Mylon, rockin’ with Jesus now & my lil girl who use to listen & dance with me. Blessings until we meet again!
+Ray “3Nails1Cross4Given” B Yep, the singing LeFevres were his family (souther gospel). He grew up in it. He wrote the hymn "Without You," in late 50's or early 60's . . . then he got a taste of the wild side, and spent countless years in the rock & roll scene, and yes, he was living the lifestyle, despite the "christian" lyrics.
We thought Christian Rock was new in the 80s, and our older church brothers and sisters would tell us that Christian Rock already existed when they were growing up in the late 60s and early 70s. I did not really believe them back then, but here's the proof.
David and the Giants is another group. They actually had a few minor successes (10 miles high, Superlove, late 1960's) in the "regular" music genre before switching to Christian format.
Great stuff, I love the early years of music, but never saw any footage until seeing this. In your description notes, you state "Mylon quit music in 1973 after an overdose only to take it back up again in the '80s" - but Mylon has three albums between 77 and 79, before starting doing Christian music with his first release being 1982.
Wow, 1971? Had he tried to take this into churches back then the Christian folks would have crucified him. I know because I did it in 1976 and we still had problems like that in 1976. If didn't matter what the lyrics were or where our hearts were, there were many people that hated rock music in church.
so sorry that happened to you. I'm an ordained pastor and love Jesus music from the early 70 and I grew up going to a Christian Festival in Wilmore, Ky called Ichthus. It was awesome and i saw Mylon and Broken heart several times. He was great and had such a heart for God. Keep rockin for Jesus and loving the Lord.
I love Mylon, saw him many times and his ministry changed my life, and still listen to and sow into his ministry today. But brother I'm glad i never paid money to see THAT tour ! That was HORRIBLE ! LOL I think its the painful background vocals that really seal that deal .( and thats just my musical opinion ) I LOVED the Broken Heart stuff ! I love ya Mylon, but I'm glad you matured beyond that " style" ? musically in Broken Heart . ❤
OK....not a lot of camera time for lead guitar player...who appears to be George Harrison at 1:51. Mylon recorded at his studio at this time, and was in the circle of friends George recorded with (Delaney & Bonnie/Derek & The Dominoes). Anyone know more about this?
I saw Mylon bringing the light , as the opening band for Ten Years After in 71'.One particular song he performed that I will never forget, was "Alimony" .Don't shoot me if i'm wrong on this ,but have heard that it was Ry Cooder's song,or more famous for it , but Mylon just absolutely, tore it a new one.
Larry Norman was the original gospel rocker. Long before Mylon. Don't get me wrong, I am a Mylon LeFevre fan. I have seen Him in concert many times and have everything he put out, but lets give credit where it is due.

@@knowmusicman157 You know, Cajuns--or Acadians (half-French, half-indigenous people) didn't just settle in Louisiana. They also settled in Missouri, Arkansas, and Mississippi (where Mylon is from), as well
@@impalaman9707 The LeFevre's aren't from Mississippi. They are from Tennessee. Mylon was born there because they were singing all over the South and just happened to be there. They are not Cajuns. Get over it.
Wow, this is strange. I know the Mylon & Broken Heart years, but this really different. He is singing in an odd way too, that seems forced and not his real voice. Interesting...
Yea extreme faith? Tv guy.......Mylon lip-synced his broken heart stuff.......... Where do you people come from, and where do you get this crap. Professing to be wise they've become fools. Thats exactly what your comment reminded me of. Wow.
@@davidhunterslifelovefaith6043 NO...MYLON LEFEVRE DID NOT "LIP SYNC" DURING HIS YEARS WITH BROKEN HEART. I know this for a fact because there was a couple concerts I remembering him momentarily forgetting song lyrics. Also once he was coming down with a sore throat and couldn't hit his higher octaves.
@@davidhunterslifelovefaith6043 You know, its really sad that musicians are more real and artistic when they are in the secular realm and seem more plastic when they sign with a Christian label, because the Christian Music Industry (and make no mistake---it IS an industry!) and designed to ape what is popular at the time for the sole purpose of trying to get young people away from secular music, no matter if it was what the "artist" felt more comfortable doing
