If you saw The Feat live with Lowell George then you witnessed complete musical mastery with a combination of Blues, Soul, Funk, R&B and total command of every genre or theme beyond those, damn Lowell is missed, RIP.
That is one of my 5 bucket list wishes. That I could go back in time and witness him with feat!! Because I was 10,11 yrs old then. I didn't start going to concerts or live bands til I was 13,14. ❤❤
What a performance! All are in top form. Richie Hayward was extraordinary. Not many rock drummers can truly swing, but his "feel" is uncanny. The space between the beats have the most amazing contour, and the agogic variation in the big beats keeps one leaning all the way. Rhythmic gifts like his cannot be taught. You either got it...or you ain't.
Vocals too, man.Hayward and George were outstanding together, the whole band was outstanding, glad I am of the age that I was introduced to these guys when they started.I’m 58.
Kyzor-Sosay i only got into them recently, saw Linda Ronstadt doing a live version of Youre no good on the midnight special and i was thinking gee that drummer has got IT, found it was Richie and climbed on board straight way.
Yes, there are guys carrying the torch in whatever genre floats your boat, I promise. It's lazy and easy to say there aren't. The reality is that it's actually easier today to find it than it was when you found feat. Billy Strings whole band can play, start there and don't live only in the past.
The mighty Feat playing in a little old bbc studio in my hometown. What a privilege to have them there. With the ramshackled genius of the late great Lowell George !
My Parents like Lowell lived and partied hard. They adored Little Feat and saw them two nights in a row in Sydney in the 70's. Front row and Lowell threw them their special Little Feat maraca's each night...
Saw them at the Cain’s Ballroom in TTown ‘78 or ‘79 … love the band and this song! Cool interview w/ “Whispering Bob” at the beginning … Robert Plant was wonderful too, thanks for the bonus! 😘
@@grahamhowes6904 My elder brother, who had been in many Country Rock bands in the uk, used to say the same. Those silent gaps, and the timing were what made this band so special.
Little Feat was one of the most talented bands of all time. Saw them last in a Vegas parking lot. Shaun Murphy was singing and their performance was top tier.
Truely wonderful band. Lowell George died far too early and with him the true Little Feat, he was the cornerstone of the band. Their music was unique nobody ever played like them before or after. A combination of southern rock, delta blues and Dr John like jazz.
Lowell George was once asked to describe Little Feat’s music. He referred to it as “Sophisti-Funk”. Great description. I say a smooth blend of blues, rock, country, and jazz. Either way, what a spectacularly innovative band that all serious musicians should become acquainted with!
I’ve heard a lot about Little Feat, but I’ve never seen them before. Now I know what everyone was talking about. They’re like a cross between The Band and Steely Dan. Awesome!
James , so right my friend . I'm 66 and went to ECU in the mid 70's . Little Feat was our favorite band living on a farm . Funny how Richie is chewing that bubble gum so hard , just like John Bonham . Or was it something else ?
I SAW THESE GUYS PRACTICE @TEMPLE OF THE RAINBOW ON SUNSET BOULEVARD AT WESTERLY TERRACE OUT IN SILVERLAKE, LOS ANGELES BEFORE THEY RECORDED JOHN WAS PLAYING BASS... THEN THEY GOT KENNY THEY WERE SUCH A GREAT COOL BAND EVEN WAY BACK THEN CARLOS GUITARLOS 90042
Tremendous and at 67 now I'm still a owld fella that can appreciate a band that was special in me teens ? Trouble is they move on but they're never 4gotten ! Even in Mexico a few years ago some kids entertained in a nice hotel and played some lil feat ! Some boys and it's great 2 know they can hack it and carry the memories of some great bands from way back !!!!🤗
I totally agree with comment about Waiting for Columbus....one of my all time favorite albums. And don't neglect to notice Bill Payne's keyboard work on Fat Man.....whew....could those guys PLAY or what?!?!
I could not believe it when I read your post. I would stay up all night listening to Michael Xanadu Playing Unheard of music ,Bands. Do you remember The Ludlow Garage? How about The Sacred Mushroom? Anyway got to see Little Feat in Louisville .I think it was in 77 or 78 Not sure . One of the best shows I have ever been to.. About the time Waiting for Columbus came out.
Wonderful Weeben! Back in the 70s Lowell showed up at the station and played a few tunes. Awesome! Saw them later that day at NK U gym. I think you can still find that recording. Check it out
Immediately hooked upon first hearing them in '70's high school...unfortunately, never got to see them live until the Craig Fuller era, at Seattle's Bumbershoot and many times afterwards. Lowell is easily, one of my all-time music heroes...the band's kinda good, too.
..blew me away when I saw them in Auckland a few decades ago! Now I'm a rock dude, brought up Blue Cheer, Hendrix and Cream, but these guys have an infectious groove which can only have emanated from the land of the free! And throw in Australia too, for AC DC. Keep on rockin' in the Free World.
@@bonzorip6162 I wish rock magazines like Mojo , Uncut & Rolling Stone would feature Little Feat as cover stars...there is no finer group, yet they still get no airplay on commercial radio. I revere Lowell George as much as Hendrix, Beatles, Stones, The Band, Thin Lizzy etc...his genius is not celebrated enough...
@@philiphalpenny9761 "Waiting For Columbus" is one of the, if not THE, finest live albums out there. They were at the top of their game and cookin'. To this day I will crank it up, and when that opening groove to "Fat Man In The Bathtub" kicks in, the neighbors don't stand a chance. ;-) Feats.........Don't, Fail Me Now.
LITTLE FEET.. The Shit . The Real Shit .. They had it all .. Absolutely Fantastic Musicians totally locked in with one and other and they had Lowell George to top it off.. The Icing on the Cake .. PERFECTION PERSONIFIED.. Love this Shit 🌞❤️⭐️🙏😉😃👍🏻🌞❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️⭐️ .. God Rest His Soul ❤️❤️❤️🌞🌞⭐️🌞⭐️🌞⭐️🌞❤️
I'd never heard of them and saw this on TV back in the day and bought Feats Don't Fail Me Now the next day - took me 45 years to buy Dixie Chicken! What was I thinking?
Lowell George kept a house in "Boston" for his wife and kids. My cousin worked at a bar in town that did a benefit to raise money for the medical bills from his cancer. The people who showed up and played for free was incredible. I was underage so I wore food service whites and walked in the kitchen with my cousin. Still listen to them.
Great band. When Tackett and Fuller joined full-time, they did some great music, too, and should not be forgotten. That incarnation produced my favorite Little Feat album, so I'm a bit biased.
Warner Bros brought out an LP of the WB Music Show back in 1975. What a bargain it was - it only cost £0.59. Forty six years later it still gets played every now and again.
Few guitarists had mastery of slide guitar that rivaled Lowell George's. Alan 'Blind Owl' Wilson (Canned Heat), Bonnie Raitt and Ry Cooder come to mind but not many (any?) others.
Listening to the box set Waiting for Columbus as I post. They are slightly past their peak by 1977 . I am looking forward to the live material from the forthcoming rereleases of their second and third albums
Now wait a minute, I saw the Allman bros in 71. They were fuckin amazing! Duane was an amazing slide player, I'll never forget it ❤ Lowell is also an amazing slide player but all guitarists are a bit different, it's hard to compare them ( for me anyway,). Will always love the Feat, amazing band...
Sorry, but back in '71 the Allman's were really on top of their game. Shortly after that Duane died and drug problems got in the way. The Feat were great even after Lowell's passing but I still miss him. In my opinion things weren't quite the same after that ☺️
Why is Rock n Roll Doctor cut short in every clip on RU-vid? Where's the call/response bit between Lowell and the conga player at the end of the song? 🎵 😭
