Stephen Myrow of Beacon Policy Advisors discusses the U.S.-China trade talks, and how the U.S. escalation with more tariffs may actually be accelerating rather than slowing Xi Jinping's "Made in 2025" program.
You're right, China does consider the United States an enemy even though we saved them from Japan and essentially built their country. I guess the Chinese people wouldn't know that though considering they have never even heard of Tiananmen square
@@knowledgeispower9736 US was selling steel and oil to Japan, until Pearl Harbor. But Chinese do appreciate US help. In 2008 financial crisis, China bought US$ 800 billion worth of US bonds and salvaged Fendie May and Freddie Mac. It's the right wingers who are sinophobic and can't accept the rise of China. The military complex of course want to promote war. Wikileaks reported there was no massacre at Tiana men Square. And I believe Wikileaks. Since the collapse of Soviet Union in 1991 the US military has targeted China as the next rival. Here is the link: www.cfr.org/report/revising-us-grand-strategy-toward-china. Kiron Skinner of the States Department has even gone further by classifying China as a "non-Caucasian rival". Her racism is shocking, considering that she herself is black and holds a law degree from Harvard.
China is innovating faster than you imagine. Meanwhile, donldduck is sinking Amanika faster anyone could've imagined. China is busy building infrastructure while,Amanika is busy looking for a country to invade, as the recent riots happened in Hong, Kong, China. China is leading the world to prosperity while Amanika leading the world to hell. China makes people rich through working while Amanika makes people poor by striking. China builds bridges while Amanika builds the wall. The rising star of visionary China....China worlds of hope........................Peace on earth, goodwills to all.......May God Bless you all.......................
The host is wrong , it is not about China trying to save face. China wants a deal that is fair , transparent and on equal terms based on mutual respect
i wonder why Does CNBC or MSM never talk about US selling services in China. Their value surpass Trade deficit that always mention when start talking Trade war
its because the service we sell to china does not impact us, i.e. opening starbucks does not hurt the starbuck buz here in us, while close a manufacture and open new one in china will hurt us.
@@haiping0918 i guess profit from big US company doesn't important huh? if they profit they can stay competitive in the market by creating new product, research, etc which most of their R&D in US, Does this not effect common US peoples ??

Oh was it fine when the Japanese rolled through and killed and raped everyone? I don't know why us Americans decided to save you. How about some gratitude loser.
@@knowledgeispower9736 It wasn't fine. And we are definitely aware of the support from US during the war. It's usually positively depicted in our history textbooks and some TV shows. Not to mention US were selling more equipments and oil to the invader, Japan, during the war, until Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor. Fairly speaking, US is never in a savior role
Two problems - 1 - Trump overestimated himself and thought he was bigger than Xi and China - 2 - US dollar is overpriced for exports to be competitive - both are USA problems
China is already looking for another suppliers and trade deals with EU, Russia, India, ect... because of Trump's aggressiveness. big question is how long US consumers can pay more for items, specially US economy is depends on spending
@Gen Info good point about marriage. all his wives are non-Americans. And yes, pathological liar, and shy away from personal confrontational problems. I understand he was born in NY, but man, he can talk trash, non-presidential
It's not a question of whether Xi Jinping is willing to negotiate. The biggest problem is "How to do any deals when all the trade talks that are not only totally one-sided but also changes Minute-by-Minute" as reported by all presses.
You're right, China really does have one sided deals and changes deals last minute. They also don't follow deals that they agree to. They are still shipping fentanyl to cartels in Mexico. They steal technology. They have concentration camps and censor their people. You are so obviously 50 cent army
@M9 you are proving me right. You have never heard of the rape of Nanjing, Tiananmen square protests, concentration camps, or the censorship of Chinese citizens. Stay in China loser
soybean market in China is probably gone forever for US farmers. decoupling the US and Chinese markets is one of the stupidest things ever conceived made worse by the launching of personal insults. why???
They encountered a problem, they worked around the issue, eventually overcoming the problem. Initially they experienced discomfort, inconvenience at the beginning of US trade spat. Now they're starting to grow once again after adjustment made. Pulling out of US market gave them more resources and desire to focus and expand to other region. Prolonged trade spat impact diminishes as it dragged on. They would love to normalise trade with US but it no longer a necessity issue.
considering what heppened in iraq, syrian, and other middle east contries with the help of USA, China would be better off without the help of USA. What US sell? Weapons to kill? Or democrazy to make a country big mess?
no he doesn't. he doesn't have a clue about china. i have been living in china since 96. everyone misses the point that what needs to be curtailed is the rising power and influence of the chinese communist party. they are rotten from beginning to end and they stay in power by cheating the rest of the world. they are never going to play fair and the stronger they get the more they will bully the countries they deal with. look at the philippines, vietnam, hong kong, taiwan, xinjiang province, tibet... you either do things according to the chinese communist party or suffer the consequences.
Lol....he is half clueless. Man...it it that hard to understand Asian culture?....lol. It's not that difficult you just have to go go back to it's foundation... Do businesswith respect and sincerity you will understand that's how Asians do things. US can't even realize these basic principles.... Instead they think to act big bad is somewhat intimidating in actually it's looks juvenile and immature. US mentality is stuck on the medieval times. And these so called "experts" of China in the US just cracks me up. They are clueless.
Jim Lundberg If China is so back and you are still living there, you must be the stupidest guy in the world. But then, if you have lived in China for so long why are you quoting from the Philippines and Vietnam like someone brought up in MSM propaganda trash, instead of quoting from your own experience in China?
China committed an act of war against the USA last week. So you are right, China will not trade with the USA again. Found in a shipping container from Shanghai, China, 52,000 pounds of fentanyl, that's enough to kill 11 billion people. So FU all against the USA, feel the giant awakened. This is the lowest act of aggression. If you stand for China, you stand for war. China just fired the first shot.
Actually Chinese millionaire s are still buying land in america, they need a clean and beautiful place to retire and Florida and California are fitting the bill.
Not mention at all here is that US businesses like Starbucks, P&G, KFC, GM, Walmart, etc., were doing ~$370 billions in China, while Chinese companies only did about $30 billion in US in 2018. These figures are not counted in trade calculations. Furthermore, the deficits of $380 billion is over stated for about $100 billion, eg., an IPhone X counted as $370 imported from China while China only derives less than $30 for assembling it. Plus there is the trade surplus of ~$50 billion in service for US.
The trade talk has nothing to do with 'face saving' It should be more about trust, honesty, fairness and not been taken advantage of, which i think trump and his team is severely lacking
No yiu cant discuss and talk to a chinese without giving face. Its the centre piece in any discussion or negotiation. Its imbedded in their culture. Trump is doing it the opposite way. In China honour among aristocrate is crucial. If you give me face I can give you more because its now balance. If you come like a cowboy negative things happen. They cannot give in because they will lose face. Simple logic. Its culture to respect and people of state must have mutual respect.
I am not an economist. However, I wonder now that China is trading with Brazil for soya beans as an example. Term contracts will be signed between importer and exporter. For instance, let's say a year. Even if hypothetically the president were to say, all is forgiven no more tariffs. That does not mean automatically that the chinese importers will simply reconnect with their previous American supplier. In any case a new deal will have to be formulated. Farmers will suffer regardless for some time to come
trump will make a great deal with himself and tell his orangutans that china has just signed the greatest deal of all time all due to the magnificent orangeness business intelligence than the great depression 2.0 occurs.
Get lost loser. Your people would be starving to death and would be a third world warzone if it wasn't for the U.S. The United States saved your country from the Japanese.
Forget a Deal with the Deal Breaker. Soy Bean is gone to Brazil 🇧🇷, they already have a long term contract with China 🇨🇳 Burn burn burn the Forest for Soy Bean
Blaming China rhetoric losing steam thanks to Trump's unreliable and erratic last minute decisions. US farmers finally waking up to the fact that it's their government policies letting them down. It's a free market competition, buyers are always looking for better deals and there are plenty of sellers in the market with better deals. China's continued focus on driving domestic consumer market is definitely the right policy.
GOD BLESS AND PROTECT PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP AND THE WHOLE AMERICA IN JESUS MIGHTY NAME WE PRAY! HALLELUJAH! THANK GOD FOR THE BLESSINGS VICTORY AND PROTECTION TO AMERICA! AMEN!!!!!!!!
Chinese government announced in July already that their export positive balance has increased to 200 billions, a 41% increase comparing the same period of last year due to more export to EU and ASEAN countries. Also, even China us trade decreased almost 10% but the positive balance increased 12% due to less imports from US.
What’s your points to use your childish imagination to fight my real statistics? By the way, I am a US PR, try stoping using someone against someone methodology, this is an event discussion!
US has to look at the overall of US companies sell to China when you look at trade figure. US companies can export from another 3rd country thus it is lose lose . Take for example Starbuck has established thousands of outlets in China and earn alot of money from this business venture but it was not include when Trump talk about trade deficits. US not taking comprehensive and far sighted approach when it imposed tariffs on China and overlooked at many consequences as a result of this action. Are we able to put humpty dumpty back again?
China could sell its products to other countries in Europe or Africa, but always remember that America is the largest economy/market in the world. Also, China continues saying it's confusing when it comes to trade deal with the US, but continuing to steal American jobs and technology surprisingly doesn't confuse China at all. Let's get this straight! The US GDP has reached $23 trillion, and the total amount of money from the US exports each year to China, is about $170 billion, which is NOTHING compared to US GDP of $23 trillion. It's in fact less than 1% of the US GDP or 0.74% to be exact, so what's the big deal about the trade deal with China? Stopping the trade deal with China and imposing tougher and higher tariffs on Chinese goods is the right thing to do for our country and for us all. The fact that our trade deal with China accounting for a tiny fraction of our GDP, has not benefited our economy AT ALL. America is doing just fine, with or without China and our history said it all.
Are U S service sector earnings in China included in the equation of trade inbalance? American parts & service brands are all over in China & they love them there.
This is a silly debate. How can the two superpowers in the world just block each other. We both need each other. people that say otherwise are just unrealistix
Why you people get so suprised at people standing up to bullies? I mean, they treat this word "face" as some new concept, but in fact it's just means "dignity". If someone come to rob your lunch money, while keep calling you a f**king wimp, wouldn't you feel humilated? Wouldn't you lose it and fight for youself? While I guess 30 years of world domination does change people. Some Americans seem to believe other people should naturally bend over. That's what happens with these historyless overnight millionaires, don't know the value of respect.
@THE ORIGINAL PROFESSOR CHAOS Look at how the democrats don't give a sh*t about rust belt workers, discriminating against coal workers, a system that only represents part of the people, and you freaking think we are to blame for your trade imbalance? No wonder you got screwed over and over again by the politicians, they mess up, point at some foreigners, and you run after us like dogs.
@@OneLine122 Is dignity a new concept? It's not like they are quoating some one, they could just say "preserve dignity" rather than "save face", which make it seem like the Chinese have some weird cultural thing that gets in the way of rationality.

I called my brother Anthony from the window, loudly I called Anthony name, my brother Anthony came running when I saw my brother standing down there outside , I sat on the window edge, prayed too God and jumped out the window, I did not land on the Mattress, I landing in the dirt standing straight up, I looked at my brother Anthony, I tried to walk to Anthony and I fell down , I bumped my forehead and my legs twisted up behind my back. I remember my sister Tina screaming, pulling out her hair, I seen my brother Tony holding his head crying, my brother Anthony trying to pick me up and the police telling Anthony get back or he would go to jail. It's funny how people who perceived to be or think of themselves to be intelligent turn-out to be sometimes less than ordinary and engage in some of the dumbest decisions. "Time" has shown, be careful who you claim as intelligent and be careful who you call a "fool". Time will make hypocrites of US all.
no, i don't think china wants to "decouple" two economies but china is preparing for the potential "decoupling" because some powerful elements in the usa is pushing america to that direction.
China is going to other than US markets...like Germany. What is Germany's GDP compared to the US GDP? When USMCA+JPN+SK and Eastern Europe with UK will serve as a trading block, I guess China can trade with Italy, Greece, France and Germany. The US needs China less than China needs the US!
The US is the easiest to deal with and these other countries are not ideal trading partners for China. We have been the patsies for years and they like that. Hard to find someone like the US that has a political system that bickers all the time and never watches the cookie jar, other than to steal out of it for themselves and family.

B4 China open door policy, they were not dependent on USA. Soon other countries will increase trade with China. Furthermore, who wants to trade big and for long term with USA that flips and impose sanctions at whims and fancies.
Not to belittle farmers and agriculture is big business but oh good we get to sell them soy beans? What about Boeing Planes, Financial Services and other products. Additionally, the USA will look for vendors in other Countries and China will look for customers in other Countries. This is not a win win!
It’s really a moot point and unconstructive trying to discuss who needs who more. Because the alternative this could lead to is both parting ways. Can the Americans (and Chinese) not suffer if this happens? Trump is starting a war with no clear ending in sight. If the two countries part ways, Trump really couldn’t care less the sufferings of many Americans.
to complete the belt and road initiative and transition process to consumer based hi tech economy, china still needs africa, oil, and access to the US dollar. of course it can SURVIVE without the US at present stage, but that would be forfeiting the chance to overtake USA.
What is the point of making a deal that can last for the same amount of time it takes trump to fly back to Washington , and then changes its mind again. Wasting everyone’s time .
A deal is something that once both parties agreed and signed on, will have to respect and bind to it, I think trump will do the first part of the deal, but not the other part, he can just scratch his backside and say, hey its not fair, lets forget it. Btw china just signed, GG china, you are done.
20 percent of China's GDP goes to global export and only 14 percent from that number are export to the US. Half of the 14 percent are owned by US companies in China. US companies in China sold over USD 500 billion worth of products in China last year ( made in China for China). China purchase oil from Russia , Iran and Venuezela in non-USD and it's already the biggest oil purchaser in the middle east. If China decides to seriously retaliate it could kick out those US companies in China that makes a huge profit every year and i'm sure the companies from China , Europe , Japan , Korea and other countries would gladly take over those marketshare own by US companies . Fyi , China could also dictate to the middle east oil producing countries that it would only make oil purchase in non dollar terms because it is the biggest oil purchaser in the middle east and the world . These are facts that Trump , the US government and the western msm that would never care to reveal to americans because it's not politically correct to do so and it doesn't fit the agenda of containing China.
Trump had the chance to get a good agreement with China. Not great but good. He may not get 100% what he wants, but at least 80% definitely is in his pocket. A little bit greedy may be ok, but too greedy may not be a good thing.
US imports from China account for 1% of China's GDP, somewhat insignificant because China has GDP growth of 6% to 12% each year; however, US imports from China account for well over 1% of the US GDP, which is very significant because the US most often has GDP growths of only -1% to 3%. The trade war is a disaster to the US economy.

US is no longer the biggest consumer market any more. For many years China has been the biggest market for things from cellphones to computers to cars, etc. For example. China sales 26-28 million automobiles annually in past 2-3 year compared to US sales of 17-18 million. This year, Chinese total retail sale surpassed US in the first 1/2 of the year. American need realize that China is a 1.4 billion people market, biggest in the world, which grow twice faster than US and western world. And by fighting the trade war, or even worse going to new Cold War and decoupling w China, we will loss that market to rest of the world, including EU, Asia and South America. In fact it is China, not US, is already the #1 trading partners for most countries of the world. US share of world trade is smaller than China’s.
