As someone who frequently travels over the Socastee swing bridge, I really loved what you said about being courteous!!

Thanks for the video! I used it two years ago to go from Wrightsville Beach to Southport and back on our 18' Crestliner pontoon boat 75 HP. The Cape Fear was a little dicey going back but was a great adventure. Last year, using your video, we went from Southport to the Myrtle Beach Grande Dunes. Spent the next day exploring the Waccamaw and this year we're going from Southport all the way to Charleston, spending the night in Myrtle Beach and Georgetown on the way. Your video has made the adventure easy! Thanks!

My house was on your port side at 5:43 seconds into the video. Second from the last house before the highway 31 overpass when you’re headed south. Great video. Thanks. And that railroad bridge by highway 501 never closes. The train stopped servicing Myrtle Beach in 1988

Bryan, thank you! I appreciate the info about the railroad bridge. I didn't realize it was completely out of service. Sometimes I have to collect data from charts and waterway guides and go with that...but always appreciate the local knowledge!

Hi Bryan. My wife and I are looking at property on the ICW. Do you know what speeds are allowed on this water? My issue with buying is that there is only the north and south inlets, basically meaning i have to travel 20-25 miles to hit the ocean. It would be nice if they were planning another cut out.

Was stationed on the USS Harwood in Charleston years ago in 1971 and on the USS Strong in 1972. Both were Reserve Training Ships. Loved Charleston and Isle of Palms. Have friends who still live there. Was so sad to hear the news when they shut Charleston Naval Base down.

Curious about the total time and fuel costs for your trip?
@AtlanticMarineWB
@AtlanticMarineWB 2 года назад
About 4.5 hours running 30-32mph. I didn't keep notes on fuel burn, but my guess would be somewhere around 30 gallons in my Grady with a Yamaha F300XCA.

True story ,left chas, heading, to Myrtle beach, we fuled up George town, 4 miles from there in the.middle coastal, at 40 m.p.h. we hit a sand bar .in the center, watch out you people.
@jordantdavis10
@jordantdavis10 2 года назад
Wow, I hate to hear that. I most recently ran this section of the waterway on June 10 and June 13, 2022. No issues. It is easy to mistake the red #2 for the Great Pee Dee River as a red ICW marker, which would put you too far west. Not sure if that's the where you were? Hope everyone was OK...sandbar at 40mph is no joke.

We should have started thinking, why about, the 8 boats, at full stop, we ended up from middle to 3inches,of water.o boy all stop
@sassycat6487
@sassycat6487 Год назад
We hit a sandbar in a very swampy area of Calabash and were stuck for hours until the tide started going back up + literally had to get in the water and start pushing it. Really scary experience as we didn't have any service and never saw another boater. I was thinking we might die out there LOL.

@jordantdavis10
@jordantdavis10 2 года назад
Yep! There are many places to refuel along the way. There are few marinas in along the Waccamaw River, then of course, Georgetown. Once you leave Georgetown, I can't think of a marina until McClellanville. After McClellanville it's Isle of Palms and then you're nearly to Charleston Harbor. Enjoy the trip!

@jordantdavis10
@jordantdavis10 5 лет назад
@@lovettej Yes, but I went out Cape Fear River and came in Charleston, that's the biggest time savings. I'm not sure how much time you'd save running out of Little River (just north of Myrtle) and coming in Charleston, because the shape of the coast at Georgetown would require you to run off shore a bit more. I guess it depends on the boat you're in...if you're in something large enough you have to slow down for everything you pass, then yes, worth it. If you're in a 28', probably not.
