@reversalmushroom my thoughts exactly!..I don't believe there was any further information or evidence..I think that the interest and attention that the podcast created prompted a charge which led to the subsequent conviction based on the same facts..it's bizarre ..if there was enough..why not charge before?🤔

Thank you for saying this! I had a “relationship” with my 45 year old boss when I was 16, we would be alone at work together all day then I would babysit his kids too, that’s how it started. I was living on my own, poor and very lonely and unsupported so I guess I was an easy target. Now I realise I’m not a bad person I was taken advantage of.

I haven’t lived in the same country that it happened in for almost 30 years as I get traumatised going back to the town it happened. He’s a very rich and powerful man and is often in the news. I had a good therapist who told me people like him can easily spot troubled and vulnerable people to take advantage of.

I vaguely remember it at the time as well. I was pretty young but I was a Newtown Jets supporter, and both brothers had played for them, so it caught our attention.

While I think cheating on his wife with a highschool girl is pretty awful. I think there's still a big difference between that and murdering someone. I do of course agree that she should have left and of course in this case he was doing more then the aforementioned.

Do you believe moving a teenager into the home, the marital bed, and three-ways with your identical twin were just examples of ‘the swinging’80’s’? I just don’t think anyone… not friends and family, not police and prosecutors, not the public have given enough credit to Joann, the teen lover, for her contributions to the deadly plot and as a co-conspirator in the murder of Lynn. ‘Check the soft soil by the girls bedrooms’ (for Lynn’s body) is a DEAD GIVEAWAY that she knew if not participated in the disposal of her rival’s body. The girl was desperate for a secure landing from her troubled past. She had even more at stake than the animalistic, sex-crazed husband. He could pick another teen but when was Joann ever going to hit the ‘life lottery’…. Built and paid for… to escape her miserable teen home life. She had no qualms about committing adultery in the marital home while the wife provided her refuge. She deserves the credit due and jail time. A woman was murdered.

He got away with it for the same reason that sexual abusers of minors got way with their crimes in churches and schools throughout the C20th. A big component was people in general not being able to recognise abuse when they saw it or heard about it. At that time there was no understanding of pedophile "grooming": "Grooming" is quite a recent development in social awareness. I am of the 1970s generation, and it was generally accepted that inevitably a single male teacher would occasionally form a relationship one of the senior girls (If "Anne of Green Gables"is any guide -- the popular classic unashamedly mentions a classmate of Anne's who is the love interest of the male teacher; as if it is perfectly acceptable!) No-one in the 70s thought that these relationships were a crime (though some might consider them immoral). if the girls were 16 years old or over, they had reached the Age of Consent, so legally, the brothers were in the clear. Fellow teachers in the 70s might secretly disapprove ( especially since they would have known that the Dawson brothers were married), but usually they would turn a blind eye, as it was considered completely inappropriate to interfere in a persons "private life" or penalise a professional for what was legal sexual behaviour carried on outside of the classroom. The NSW teachers Federation (Union) was, and is, very strong ) and the Dawson brothers would have been heavily and vigorously defended by the union against any reprimand or action initiated by the school principal or another teacher. As for the girls' fellow students, they would not have dreamed of complaining to parents or teachers -- because they would have observed that the girls were willing participants. They may also have feared that the school authorities would penalise them for complaining, as well as punishing the "teacher's pet" girls. Fellow students may also have felt a responsibility to protect the "teacher's pet" girls from the wrath of their parents. They may also have feared a general crackdown by the principal on school freedoms as a result, affecting all students. Also, a teacher such as the Dawson brothers could fail a student in their subject and no-one could question it; and if a teacher such as Chris Dawson chose to fail a student who had complained about him; if he denied the allegations and said they were lying and got them punished or expelled who was going to be believed, the student or the teacher? if victims of even more serious sexual abuse, students who had been physically as well as emotionally abused by teachers and priests, were always disbelieved, there is every reason to think that any sexual misconduct allegation against a teacher would also be squashed.

Pedophiles have been prevalent since the dawn of community, its just heard about more due to social media and internet. It is a good thing that “liberties” like this were (in modern liberal democracies at least) curtailed to protect women in their homes. What makes this male teacher-female student dynamic so problematic is that the power is so unevenly distributed. A more careful ethical approach to analyze the actual relationships involved may have led to a better result. Young women should know they have rights and won’t be punished for speaking up.

A lot of these news reports can be found on RU-vid videos of ABC news, Ch7 news, Current Affair etc, all use JC's full name from about '18/'19 and earlier..

Here in Germany, media are only allowed to refer to people with first name and then the initial of their last name (except when they're celebrities or politicians). In pictures, their eyes have to be hidden. Not only for victims, but often also for perpetrators. For example the horrible Germanwings pilot was referred to as "Andreas L." and there was a black rectangular covering his eyes on pictures. It's odd to see the full name and face on the internet, then. But I still think it's right to maintain these laws here- not only to protect victims, but also take some "power" off perpetrators. Another time, for some reason our media showed the uncensored pictures of a terrorist that had killed people in Berlin with a truck. And they used a pic where he was good-looking and smiling, and I hated it. It was like some kind of advertisement for his deeds to portray him handsomely, with his full name and without covering his eyes.

@@murphychurch8251 Perhaps that makes sense for you culturally, but all criminals are not convicted. Even when they are, their sentance may be brief. Knowing the individual's name and countenance can help the public avoid this person and stay safer.

Sydney police were not only incompetent but highly corrupt in the 1980s. It went right up to the State Premier. They gave green lights for criminals to carry out crime and the police assassinated members of the public with impunity. Went on for decades.

They could not have not known about the affair, the beatings, the fact that no mother would up and leave her children, when she had so many options to stay around and deal with a cheating husband. Everything was pointing to foul play, with only one suspect, and yet they did not investigate the husband thoroughly. They let his celebrity status blind them and keep them from doing their jobs. Justice after 40 years is not called good police work. It was apparently a true crime podcaster who was instrumental in his final conviction.

Maybe his family has money to help him or he inherited some money 💰

The murder occurred in Sydney though. Sydney is a big city even then - probably 3 million + way back then. He'd still have to drive quite a long way with a body in the back to get to the wide open spaces to dispose of it.. Plenty of points he could have been caught along the way.. But he got away with it for 40 years. Justice caught up.

@@markdouglas9182 You coukd drive around the most crowded city on earth with a decomposing body in the boot and never worry as long as your car is street legal and you obey the road rules. Only problem would be the stench when stationery and IF a person is reported missing AND you are named as a potential suspect. Police don't pull people over and conduct a search without reason. Someone has to report a missing person first and maybe, after months of them missing, but more like 'never at all' they will actually start searching. Usually actual searches are restricted to evidence compilation stage where they are seeking to procecution and that can take forever.

Can non-Australians visualise this move, do they understand that this was quite a nasty thing that Chris D did? it's on the same level of pinching and twisting someone's flesh; and Chris D. actually did it in front of witnesses -- no doubt laughing, and saying that Lyn couldn't take a joke. Like you said, sadistic, because if the whip end touched you, it was indeed like a whip. It stung badly, especially if it hit bare skin. As an Aussie of a similar age to Lyn Dawson, as a kid I was taught the teatowel flick in the kitchen (by my dad I think) as a fun move, and i daresay i could still execute it today. The teatowel makes a cracking sound like a whip when you do it right. Of course we were only allowed to do it just out of range if we aimed it at a person, we could only aim low and we were not allowed to let the teatowel connect with the person targeted. We would have got into huge trouble if we had - especially if we targeted an unsuspecting victim. We kids practised the move against the kitchen cupboards so we could fine tune how close we could flick without actually making contact, and when parents weren't around we would have flicking "wars" where we learned to pull back out of range of an opponent's teatowel in the nick of time. do modern Aussie parents teach this to their kids these days though? not sure.
