Inside the HomeSoap UV sanitizer by PhoneSoap, along with its twin UV-C fluorescent tubes, is a single blue LED, on the back wall of the device's sanitization cavity. It is only on when the door is closed, so it is never normally visible. I have no idea what the purpose of this LED is...maybe one of you do?? Discuss in the comments!

I am more interested in why the bulbs on the sides of the device are not working😕

Some of the 'tubes' on the inside are actually decoys. The vertical ones are empty and serve no functional purpose. (The real UV bulbs are on the top and bottom.)

@@SpeakerPoliceThey do serve a functional purposes. You’re supposed to put your device against them, not directly against the side walls. Since they are clear, this will allow the UV light to fully 360° get your device. If it were resting on the side walls and not the glass tubes, those edges would not be sanitized.

@SpeakerPolice I dont think the blue LED is being used as a light in this case. I Think its assuming the role of its alter-ego. When you supply a current to an LED, obviously, it emits a light. Conversely, when you supply light to the face of an LED , it emits a voltage. You can sometimes find them being used in this manner as sensors in automated sun trackers for motorized solar panel mounts. 3 LEDs mounted to a board in a triangular pattern and placed in the sun, will produce 3 different voltages, that will only equalize when the plane of the 3 diodes is exactly perpendicular to the direction of the sun. Mount this sensor on your motorized solar tracker, matching the plane of the diodes to the plane of the solar panels, and you now have a way of orienting the panels to maintain highest possible efficiency at any given moment Since the uv lights in this box are only on when the door is closed, they need a way to indicate whether or not the bulbs are still functioning, without exposing your eyeballs to a direct, close range, UV-C source. So, a single diode because its an extremely cheap light sensor, compared to a class- action lawsuit from an army of half blind former customers....and its blue/violet in color, to match closest to the shorter UV-C wavelengths. But thats all just a guess. 😊

Well, I have no idea, but maybe it's because people associate UV light with blue/purple light, so that's there just for effect? Kinda like how soap doesn't actually have to lather, but people _think_ it has to, so soap companies add lathering agents for that sole purpose.

The problem with that theory is that under normal operation, you'll never see this light when it's on, because it's only on when the door is closed!

@@SpeakerPolice But you can still catch a glimpse of it when the door opens or closes. It's like how the light in the fridge turns off when you close it. You can't tell because it's only when the door is closed, but eventually you try something to see if it's actually going off, just because you wanna know. I'm just throwing stuff out there, since I don't know. I can't think of what purpose an LED that nobody sees could serve.

Why in the world would you open the machine with the UVC lights on? It’s not good to expose your self UVC light, it could damage your skin and eyes.

@@wetham8667 You don't honestly believe a few seconds of low power UV-C will melt your retinas and BBQ your skin, do you? Lmao I got more exposure checking my mailbox today
