He looks a lot like his great great great great grandaddy Northern Dancer who was described as feisty and mean spirited. Also a very handsome horse. Nice to see Mystic Dan who seems to be easy going in this video. Thank you for posting this heart warming video.
Beautiful Bay Colt. He is also very even tempered and the noise/crowds don't seem to bother him. Congratulations on the Kentucky Derby win to his connections.
Kentucky Derby Champion, Mystik Dan Looks Really Well!! It's Like He Never Raced!! Doesn't Look Tired Either!! He Just Looks Like A TRUE CHAMPION!! Congratulations!!❤
Well?? It's up to Mr. Mcpeek!! He Made it to the finish line, regardless!! He did better than everyone else!! I and anyone of us would LOVE TO BE IN THE WINNERS CIRCLE!!
The most!! happy, humble, beautifull horse I have seem after Rich Strike. Rich was beautifull arrogant, and with quite a character. Rich and Mystik were overlooked!!! But both made history. Don't underestimate a human or an animal. Seems like Mytik has a problem with his right back leg. Congratulations !!!. Please look after him.
The yellow lab belongs to Kenny. Living in Arkansas my whole life I love the owners of the winner all live in Arkansas. Lance Gasaway graduated from the same college I did Arkansas A&M.
I ran, got some attention from fans, relaxing bath and my clean stall. What is everyone making a fuss about? Just a breathles ly beautify well behaved royal horse not rreally aware of tthe humans joy. Love! Thank you
The pressure from the lip chain releases endorphins and helps to calm and relax the horse...essentially like a baby's pacifier. Notice the only time they have it on is when he comes out for his bath surrounded by media. He's naturally a relaxed horse, but it helped to keep him calm in what could have been a stressful scenario. I saw him get his bath this morning when there was no crowd and he wasn't using it. It's just designed to keep him relaxed.
Being a sportsman I have to say Congratulations even though you guys cost me money. It's ok I never bet what I can't afford to lose. Best of luck going forward.
I wish the people in this video were in the winners circle and acknowledged when the horse wins. Since they are the ones who care for these beautiful animals for better or worse. Not like some owner(s ) who only show up with their fake smiles to get the glory for work they didn’t do .
Poultice. It improves blood circulation so helps the legs recover, helps to prevent or heal injuries. In this case helping his legs recover from the race like a quarterback would ice their shoulder after a game.
The lip chain does not cause discomfort, it actually does the opposite. The pressure releases endorphins which help to relax the horse. The only time he wore it was when they brought him out into a sea of people since they didn’t know how he’d behave in that scenario, it gave him some extra comfort. Like a baby’s pacifier. As soon as he walked away from the scenario it was removed and he hasn’t used it the rest of the week. If it did cause any discomfort, it would be wrapped in vet wrap. It’s a tool that helps relax the horse, doesn’t give any pain.
What sweet horse...I don't follow racing and not an equestrian but I do subscribe to some horse channels. He seemed very content chomping on his hay and he seem to know the lady and she was petting him. Then comes the young woman who takes him to get washed. She didn't even greet him...was all business and why was that chain in his mouth. The man washing him also showed no connection and just threw water at the poor horse. The horse deserved some extra TLC for winning. I have watched horses lovingly being washed and brushed and so this was shocking and uncomfortable to watch. Fortunately, the horse was well behaved.
They have a job to do. Mystik Dan is one of 40 horses his team cares for. They all need to be trained, walked, washed, etc and the track is only open for 3.5 hours. They got to move on to the next horse. That doesn’t mean they don’t care for him, they just go give him love once they’re done with everyone, which they do. I have spent many hours around that barn in the last week and every single member of that staff loves and cares for him so much. They are also tremendous workers and are dedicated to the tasks at hand. They start at 4 a.m. and many of them live on the track itself. It is their life and their passion. It’s easy to see the owners in this video showing him love because they don’t have anything else to do at the time. The workers didn’t have their luxury, but once work is over they’re in the stalls with the horses showing them love. You can tell by how well mannered Mystik Dan is how well they care for him. As far as the chain, it’s a lip chain. It puts pressure on his mouth which releases endorphins to help keep him relaxed, like a baby’s pacifier. He wore it when they were going to bring him into the sea of media to help him stay relaxed and took it off once he was out of that scenario. That’s the only day they’ve used it with him because it was a unique scenario where they didn’t know how he’d react…he took the attention like the champ he is.
@celine federici6951 They are typical backstretch workers, for better or worse. If you want your racehorses to have extra time spent on them like a pet, you will need to provide that yourself. The "big horse" (the popular one of the moment) gets all of the extra attention.
The lip chain does not hurt him. If it caused him any discomfort, it would be covered in vet wrap. That chain config is totally normal for safe handling of lots of colts, especially when they’re surrounded by press and random people. His handler removes the chain from his gums around 13:00 when he’s proven that he’s going to stay chill. In all of the other videos he’s just got it looped around the noseband. He’s so much more chill than most other 3 yr old TBs! He’s calm, curious, unafraid, and barely even mouthy at all which, again, is not normal for a TB colt (although he does nip his owner at about 21:18). He doesn’t even mind having his face, ears, and crotch washed! 😝Evidence of fabulous and gentle handling.
