Mystique was played by two actresses in the X-Men film series. Rebecca Romijn played the character in X-Men from 2000 to 2006. Jennifer Lawrence played a younger version of the character in X-Men from 2011 to 2019. How Jennifer Lawrence did makeup for Mystique is also on the channel.💄☝
And Rebecca did a fantastic job, while Jennifer's version was completely unfaithful to the character (though it's unclear if it was her, the writers, or the producers that demanded the emphasis and lack of her "natural" (blue) look
Actually for a model she’s a great actress and acts way better than many overrated actors out there. Have you seen Godsend and Femme Fatale? She was great.
@Smarty2able WOW - this comment truly is an epic win - you must be very proud of your singular view of young people. I applaud your brave trailblazing ❤️
@@Smarty2able I meant because all Jennifer Lawrence did was complain about the make up. Including how her mental health was somehow affected by the tedious process. Jennifer Lawrence is a millennial.
I think it was the canvas it was painted on that made the result better. Romajn was a legit supermodel while lawrence was a model, but of a lower caliber.
One thing that surprised me is when she lost her powers in X-Men Last Stand I'm surprised she was allowed to lay on the floor naked while still maintaining a PG-13 Rating I Guess it was because she was laying on her side
Facts, Jennifer was kinda whatever, they made too much of the X-Men movies about mystique and Jennifer was vastly inferior to Rebecca. All of that made me sort of resent Jennifer's portrayal
@@brenscott5416i duno, old ppl like u get attached to old sh plus stubborn asf, not to mention the ignorance. Lawrence is the best actress of the two but both are meh, mystique ain't main character material.
I think this a case where a super-model was the perfect casting. She really knew how to move and emote well in an unusual costume. JL always looked like JL in makeup. RR became Mystique
That's the benefit of using someone that's not already a well established actor in a role, they "become" their role in a whole different way. Other examples: Sean Connery as James Bond and Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker.
If only the execs had the brains and balls to have created an entire Mystique movie with Rebecca Romijn. She knocked it out of the park. Her performance was easily one of the best parts of X-men. She dominated the small amount of screen time she gave and burned her mark into the minds of every true X-men fan.
@@Alex-fn6pzThey did that with First Class and DOFP anyways though. So they could have equally done it with her own movie starring this actress instead of JL.
This mystique was SO beautiful! I’m not just talking about Rebecca, though she is gorgeous, but as an actual piece of art this is phenomenal work! No CGI, just good old FX makeup artists!! 👏🏼👏🏼
@@t0m653 they were both SO well done! I don’t blame you!! However, Nightcrawler has ALWAYS been one of my favorites!! I loved him in that movie!! In fact! It’s that movie specifically that made me love him
Weeelllllll.... what's-her-name as Gamora is pretty good. 'Ol girl as Wasp, also not bad. Mantis lady, also good. Sorry, I'm God awful with names... if I didn't see my wife and kids daily I'd forget theirs as well...
@@bagofboom252 i've been reading 1984 this past week and this whole comment seems exactly like something someone in the book would talk like. probably parsons.
She STILL IS!!!! Who the heck are U to say “ back then” I’d like to see what YOU like now vs then. She’s a goddess and will always be ….. so tired of people talking like a woman over 40 is washed up when they themselves are nothing compared to these women!!!!!!!
@@lsimon343 Knock it off. She was ten times more attractive back then than she is now. You have no reason to be righteously indignant when people state the obvious.
Absolutely ! Larger shoulders and longer legs than Jeniffer so overall a better shaped body. Jennifer is just an amateur plumb cosplayer compared to Rebecca. To legitimate the role, Jennifer Lawrence felt necessary to show her " Mystic Hole " all over internet !
The greatest mystique for sure. Her fight scene where she transformed into wolverine in X2 was phenomenal. Plus, the makeup is a lot more detailed and never changed during her run of movies.
I think your thinking of the first x-men, the scene in the Statue of Liberty… in X2 I don’t remember them fighting he did however fight lady deathstrike (female version of him you could say) however I haven’t seen these movies in a long time. 😂
@@Zagarth12 Gotcha, the wording made me think of fighting the x-me as wolverine. I don’t even remember to be honest it’s been years since I’ve watched them. I remember her infiltrating just not as Wolverine. Was she fighting anyone as wolverine though or was she just herself? I remember her fighting some guards after she infiltrated I just thought it was her though…. Welp time to rewatch those masterpieces! 😂
"Her fight scene where she transformed into wolverine" is wolverine's fking actor, you people exaggerating everything and giving credit to people who did nothing 🐑
@@jason___1697 I just meant that she had better scenes. It doesn’t mean that he did nothing. I know that Hugh Jackman actually filmed the scene, I’m just saying it was a phenomenal scene that was worth mentioning.
It's sad you think money makes doing these things not hard, please try wearing and acting in the costume for 10 hours+, you'd become the bitch you hate real quick
She definitely did better than the actress turned actress Jennifer Lawrence. Rebecca seemed to put some character into when Lawrence acted like herself in every movie. 2 emotions stare blankly or screaming. Rebecca's movement's body language and the small amount of lines she had she killed it. Really felt like she was acting portraying a mysterious character.
@@mrbasfed1948 and? The comics mystique is a leader, infiltrator and planner not a brawler. Let the actress carry the scenes instead of the stunt doubles.
She truly conveyed how ominous, how threatening Mystique was and part of that was that, when she could look like anyone (including, presumably, Jennifer Lawrence) she chose the scary, inhuman-looking Mystique she appeared as when she was a child. That's some mental danger there. Much respect for a great portrayal of a unique character.
Most beautiful Mystique we ever had ! ❤ Unlike Lawrence, she embraced they efforts and not whining of it. In her interview, she claims to be proud of the role played and we believe it ! ❤
Why do you say underrated? She got lots of screen time and I recall was greatly favored among the cast of characters.. I'd say she was a great character and was perfectly rated...
@@IllisiaAdams today is even higher, what we should worrying about are those underpaid VFX artists. These ''actors'' are nothing without VFX, they could've even create entire movie set without actors. Actors are required, for the marketing purposes
Rebecca Romjin is a gorgeous actress to begin with, and she literally put her ALL into that performance......no costume to hide behind, just amazing make up and her Talent! She should have received a. Award for that role!!! Because of her Performance, I can understand WHY Magneto was drawn to her.... she was not only a physically beautiful individual, but she had Inner strength as well!
No words could honestly describe my joy if Rebecca were to play Mystique again, even if that meant that'd be her last performance as the character ever.
@@aarononeil9832 there is always alternatives with allergies. But to be honest she was a terrible mystique as well I didn’t like Jennifer’s look as mystique her hair looked terrible as well.
@@aarononeil9832 Jennifer started as a model and then broke into acting when good ole Harvey Weinstein scouted her and gave her a lead role in a film.
I loved this design for Mystique.. the way her skin/scales seem to flutter as she changes her appearance, those piercing yellow eyes and her sort of sassy sarcastic smile she always has. So good! Sure, she’s sexy or whatever but this version of Mystique is a badass and is literally running around naked kicking serious ass. They leaned into her mutant-ness and it really worked.
I loved painting her, she’s was so sweet to me and she has such a beautiful body, she made our job so easy. It was a truly pleasure. Everyone on our team agreed that she was one of the top 2 clients we worked with. Thank you Becky for the great memories! The other was Ken Jeong for the dungeons and dragons episode of Community.
Such a shame that episode of Community is so hard to find now because people called-it-out - *wrongly* , I might add - for "black facing" 🙄 It's not black facing, internet. He's dressing-up as a *fictional species* who have darker skin. That species don't come in lighter tones. It's so blooming stupid we've mostly lost that incredible episode which is by far one of the best they did! You should be so, so proud having worked on it, and on Mystique, too, that's #socool! Keep-up the amazing work!!!
