I am so glad to see this video. I almost bought a Kubota mini x and CTL. I demo'd the Cat 305e2 and the 289d alongside the Kubota KX040 and SVL75. Took them to my farm, and put them through the paces all weekend. I ended up buying both CAT pieces. The ergonomics and power from the Cat equipment was far superior. The ride of the 289d was considerably better. Couple that with the service and resale it was a no brainer. I'm not bashing the Kubota, but I am happy with my choice.
Since the "other" video was comparing a then-brand-new Kubota to the previous year's cat (with probably 2k hours on it), it brought me significant cheer to see a now brand-new cat outperforming the then-brand new Kubota from the year before! So we can see that when you compare a new kubota with a new cat, the cat is still purring at the end of the race!
I was so glad to see this video after watching that other one. Big cat guy, thinking of selling my 312 and getting a 305. I was shocked over what that kubota did. I ran a 2021 040-4 the other day, kind of disapointed with how sloppy they are compared to the cats. Great video
I saw that video and I had suspected that the relief settings had been tampered with to make the Kubota seem superior. Both are good machines and I’m glad we have the choice which machine we want to buy. It’s not the manufacturer but which dealership will best serve you when your machine goes down.
Wow, that’s funny that CAT felt they had to upgrade their 305 and go lift some blocks in answer to that video. At least they recognized that they needed to improve, I watched that video in question, and among other reasons bought a U55-4. I’m loving that
Don't see how this disproves the other video you talk about, when you said at the beginning of the video that this Cat was a NEW UPGRADED 305. Obviously the other Cat could not do it. I also watched the video of the test and it was a 2015 Cat 305, but it is nice that Cat improved their products lifting. Looks to be a very nice Excavator, none the less. Also glad that Kubota and others up the game, now customers will actually get more for what they pay, unless this upgrade jacks the price up too. I haven't checked on that yet, but I will. Thanks for the video.
Touche for cat. The "other" video was comparing a brand new kubota 5 ton machine with the previous year's cat, which may have had 2k hours on it already. So while not a whole lot more useful than the "other" video, we're comparing a brand new cat to last year's kubota so cheers to all!
I rented a 305 that was sickly on the stick so I returned it and picked up another and the 2nd was plenty strong. Point is that the other video was not rigged but the cat was out of adjustment and/or just needed maintenance. I think this video is just showing that the sick cat was not the typical cat.
Not to defend Caterpillar, but in that video the Kubota used for the tests weights more than Cat and has more net power: 5.5ton vs 5.1ton and 47hp vs 40hp... so, there were no need to upgrade a 305, just test a 305.5 (5.4t, 44hp) instead, to make a more balanced competition. After all also Kubota is a good machine, as they make mainly mini ex.
In the other video they were starting the lift 40” away from the machine. Obviously with the boom locked against the machine like that it’s going to be an easier lift. If you’re going to claim to disprove a video the parameters of the experiment should be identical.
Basic lifting is to lift close and lower as you move away from yourself to place beyond your max lift distance, when he set it down could he have lifted it at that range? 10,000+ hours Elevator Operator
Andrew McElroy why in the world would anyone care what an Elevator operator thinks when this is a video about an excavator? LOL. Hell anyone who ever got in an Elevator, pushed a button and got to their floor is qualified to be an Elevator operator. LOL.
I was using a small CAT excavator like that when the backfill blade broke off. A welder had to come out to the jobsite and take the whole backfill blade frame off and reweld it back together and reinstall it. Those things should never ever break! If someone was using the blade to a level the machine on a hillside and it broke they could be killed!
I am researching the idea of using this type of excavator to clear a driveway, an area for my future house, footings and septic system. Does anyone have any reservations about my use of this particular excavator for the task's described?
Absolutely! We have loyal customers doing the tasks you describe with mini excavators all over the world, but we want to make sure it is the perfect machine for you. Have you spoken with your local Cat dealer? They would be happy to consult with you on what solution makes the most sense for your business.
I cannot find the message I just left. I was using a cat mini X a few years ago when the backfill blade broke completely off the tractor. They had to take the whole backfill blade frame off and weld it back together. If that would have happened when someone was using the blade to level the machine on a hillside that could have been fatal. Those blades should never ever break!!! Cat should emphatically specify that their backfill blades are total crap and not to rely on them! And never lift the machine by the blade either. It may break off.
This must have been filmed on a soundstage and his lapel mic was not working. It must have been picked up on another mic backstage as demonstrated by the horrifica echo. 😁
kx40 junk i just paid mine off. video he is talking about is compared with yanmar and others. selling my kubota u want to buy it ? let me know... getting support on road service . kubota does not have... ever see cat service trucks on road ? bobcat is working on that now..
hah 1:39 massive hydraulic oil leak on stick cylinder also extending out doesn't mean you can lift it just means the hydraulics were in pressure relief. Nice machine, not a Kubota though.
You can see some dripping from the stick cylinder around that time but "massive" is not correct. I've seen machines spraying true geysers and we kept using it until the fluid ran out (it was an emergency situation). Doesn't really prove anything. Could be a loose fitting and we already now this is close to the relief pressure maximum limit.
je travail sur une 303.5 et c d'la merde c sure que pour cette vidéo y'a un mécano qui a booster la puissance huidraulique parce-que c pas si fort john deere et kubota c bien meilleur que cat pour les mini
what does upgraded mean? the pumps were turned up. Cat underperforms lots of other brands. I ran equipment for over 38 years and die hard cat fans wont believe anything until you show them Had a guy on a dirt job rant and rave about the D6. they had DP6 Komatsu's on the job to LGP. I told him the cat was junk. One day at lunch the foreman brought out a huge set of cables and we hooked each one up, and the cat had grousers. The komatsu drug it away two times with the cat tracks spinning ot get hold, and the operators false teeth coming out of his mouth. He still would not admit the Komatsu pulled the other maching away. I'll never forget that as long as I live. LOL
dont have any, but I ran all size excavators for over 38 years so I know what they can do to get a machine do things its not suppose to. cat never could pick up shit anyway compared to lets say a Komatsu. Thats no urban legend and I don't care what spec sheet says. Put them both to the test and you'll see what I mean. Cat stole every bit of technology from Hitachi and Komatsu and abandoned the old line of 225, 235, and 245 mahines when no one was buying them. The had to sell out to Mitsubishi to manufacter their excavators because they had the patent on the variable displacement pump. Do some homework and you'll see its true. There was a huge article in Forges way back when about Cats excavator sales were dead till they cloned a Hitachi and Komatsu to figure out how to build a machine. The rest is history. Thats proof.
I have bought 10 cat machines in the last 2-3 years .. this winter was the last straw for me with caterpillar and their shit wheel loaders .. broken down more than they were running and yes they were new machines . I find myself watching mini x videos because my 2020 305 is way under power so I’m looking at a new kubota which will out perform my 305 in every way shape and form . I made a video recently about my 3 cat wheel loaders and how awful they have been .. I’m hesitant to post it out of respect for the brand however they are very close to losing me as a good customer forever ✌🏼
Yes your right don't believe everything you see on the internet including this vid some manufacturers increase hyd. PSI. and engine turbo psi. send them out as demos to people that will make misleading videos like this.
