Sounds neat! The idea of a cooperative game without an explicit win condition makes me think of RPGs (it sounds like this game has some RPG elements, which make sense). Thanks for sharing, Jamey. =)
Definitely, that's a good comparison to RPGs. Beyond that, I wouldn't say that the gameplay of Mythwind feels like RPGs (other than a few event-style cards with A or B choices)--it's a mechanical, grindy Euro game. :)
Thank you for sharing this Jaimie. I think that you're the first that I've seen call out the impact on gameplay of the goal cards. Interestingly, some people choose to ignore them entirely (or the town in general) which is totally great. It's fun seeing how different players approach the game. Including the goal cards was not an easy choice as we didn't want to force too much direction on players.
Glad you’re enjoying this game too, Jamey. I’m in year 2 of the game, playing solo using two characters at once (Crafter & Farmer). I really enjoy that the events and adventures are quasi-randomized but in a tiered/structured manner so things are unlocked/unfolded with a progression that makes sense for the narrative. I’d probably be a season or two farther along if my copy of Wyrmspan hadn’t arrived “forcing” me to play a few solo games of that to prep for gameday with my group this weekend. 😃
