Thanks Si for a really interesting video. As you say, it’s a chicken and egg situation in terms of building the community. Having tried and struggled to juggle racing for different teams across different platforms in the past, I prefer to keep my eggs 😉 all in one basket. Assuming that MyWhoosh begins charging for access, can I see myself moving across from Zwift? No chance - the abundance of competitive racing on Zwift is the defining factor for me.

Totally fair comment and view @miles1467 and I think I may make a similar choice if the situation was the same but two monthly memberships involved 🍻👍

Tried it this weekend (SRC) and its pretty decent, incredible for £0! But not without issues. Seems from other comments its cool to hate Zwift a bit now, but switching between 2 (as a racer only, I rarely do free rides or workouts tbh) shows me the pack dynamics issue is a tough nut to crack. On MyWhoosh it felt like we were all attached with actual elastic bands, you drop slightly behind someone but if your power is even close to theirs you fully spring from behind to in front and then the 2 of you play an odd game back and forth without wanting to. 'luckily' I was dropped after a few KM as put into Cat 2 so that stopped being an annoyance once solo ha. The steering I also couldn't get to work pre race - I could steer to the very edge with 1 tap of arrow in either direction, but not back to the middle or only a little to one side - so didn't use in race. Will come back for more, but if anything it's made me more understanding of why it feels like Zwift can't quite get pack dynamics right - its more difficult than maybe we give them credit for most of the time
@SiBradeley

💯 agree the dynamics are clearly a tough one and not great at this stage. I am aware there was a steering issue this weekend, for Kenny avatar stayed left and it was really hard to get into the draft. Same for me though, got dropped rode solo :-)

Thanks for the summary. I just tried mywoosh on my iphone, had a 1,5h freeride training and then the app crashed and i lost my activity. Also it takes control over my bluetooth headphones and sets them on hearthrough. No way to deactivate it. Not a nice start, but I hope it will improve and that the macOs version will be released soon. Looking at that rediculous prize money and already talking to some local club members to form a team maybe soon.

Si, about the dual recording. Is one considered THE one and the other as control, or are they using both during racing to calculate speed, … ? Integrating simply both there is definitely a plus to Zwift if at least some feedback is present.

Love that mywhoosh is adding more competition in the indoor cycling market. I've raced both platforms and yeah, the mywhoosh pack dynamics feels very primitive whereas Zwift has had years longer to develop their pack dynamics and it feels very smooth, polished and advanced. I hope Mywhoosh improves a lot in this area in the coming years.

@eagerbob
@eagerbob 5 месяцев назад
indeed. For those who do not know what it is, this is the definition: Sportswashing is a term used to describe the practice of nations, individuals, groups, corporations, or governments using sports to improve reputations tarnished by wrongdoing. So I think you shouldn't be reviewing (or using it). It is not "free", it is financed with a goal: to influence your thinking and make you feel better towards the government that finances it,
@SiBradeley
@SiBradeley 5 месяцев назад
This is a very difficult and complicated topic and let’s not forget that with out the investment from many international government linked brands, teams, sports people our sport would be a very different place. Look at how many riders and teams in cycling are supported by Middle Eastern countries and China on that matter, do we take the same view on those riders and teams and refuse to support …. I don’t have the answer but I think the statement is to broad .

Informative, balanced, and interesting video, Si. While I have trouble making the political connection or separating the issue from fans of riders like Tadej or other Western companies with Middle Eastern support, I do see the strong belief of many commenters. I want to explore the ‘Sportswashing’ issue, the human rights policies in modern-day UAE, and how they relate to the virtual cycling world. A few of you are obviously strong opponents. Can you tell me how you developed these beliefs? Have you been to UAE, know someone who lives there, or can you point me to research or resources supporting your opinion? I’ve done a significant amount of research and find it challenging to point to anything specific in their modern-day culture.

You can go to Human Rights Watch and navigate by country. They have a one-paragraph summary where they explain how what you call "modern-day culture" is all appearances while they keep carrying out their strong policies against dissidents, political opponents and free thinkers, with particularly appaling treatment of women and migrant workers. You can read more details in their World Report 2024, and in the many links to news about individual cases.

Idk what is the future of e-cycling but it is definitely not zwift. No way with those shitty cartoonish graphics that makes snowy mountains look like vanilla icecream balls. After I tried Rouvy first time on Col Du Telegraphe I was shocked because during the ride I really felt like riding outdoors. I realized that zwift is far away from being realistic both in terms of course profiles and graphics and after few more rides on Rouvy I also realized that I was not able to focus on my ride anymore on zwift beacuse of unrealistic and dull feel of the game then I immediately cancelled my 2 years old zwift subscription... So until there is a more realistic alternative than Rouvy I will continue with the Rouvy not with Zwift clones. Btw Mywhoosh seems more natural in terms of graphics so good job MyWhoosh hope you'll do great things.

Let’s exercise caution about casually labeling everything that originates or is associated with the Middle East as ‘sports washing’. Not to say it doesn’t happen - it’s been a part of cycling and sports sponsorship for many decades - from all parts of the world. However, casual use of the term also reinforces even older cultural stereotypes and biases.
@Stevenafoe
@Stevenafoe 5 месяцев назад
@@rivingtonandstantondon’t think it’s casually labeling; the movement is obvious in cycling and soccer/football. Middle eastern countries don’t have a cycling history. Why would they have the countries name spelled all over the jersey? Uae, emirates, israel etc. It’s not even one, there are several. Why are they ‘buying’ soccer championships and famous soccer players? The whole sport washing backfired last soccer world championship. What about female (soccer) players? Can they go to saudi arabia without problems? Or does there always need to be a ‘guide’ and covering of their bodies etc. Uci, Fia and fifa aren’t trustworthy, are they? There’s too much money involved. Back on subject: how and why did mywhoosh get the uci-label? Are you giving your personal data to the people / government behind mywhoosh? Weight, health, internet behaviour etc. Would you do the same if it was a russian app or north korean (or even the usa)? If it’s free it usually means…. Right. I think it’s a good think to be sceptical and keep asking questions. I don’t think it’s a good thing governments ‘own’ sportteams. Sports and politics (and religion) should be seperate.

This sounds like a paid infomercial and it’s very odd that UCI gave these guys the eWorlds when the platform right now is crap. I’ve used it a bit and all the people I know who race Sunday nights all they talk about is chance of money but they admit it’s crap to ride with horrible slingshot draft dynamics (~3secs trainer delay). Then there is the issue of no humans on the platform apart from the Sunday nights when people are being paid prize money. All the races on Sunday are 45km and have massive hills so they don’t even cater for different rider types either. And why do they make you do a 1hr Power Passport test that you also need to video every 3mths..it’s ridiculous. Then there is the whole money sports washing debate …..and yeah it just feels a bit off to me.
@SiBradeley

Sorry but this must end up in a moral debate. It is politics in this and our moral needs to be better than the UCI. I know very well that UCI is here to broaden the cycling in the world. But it must not be to the expense of other plattform with better human and gender values. The crazy part about this "monetization" is it's all smoke and mirrors. The money being paid out to top racers is not based on profitability. It's just a bribe used to attract top riders. The internet is primarily about creating monopolies. Zwift has a monopoly on virtual cycling and there is nothing this Gulf money app has that I care to try. The problem is even with this monopoly zwift still isn't profitable, so yes, there is a cost to having scab companies like mywoosh. Let's be honest, most people who pay for virtual cycling are not racers.
