Man gewinnt Spaß. Daher geht man auf den Ring. Sonst kann man auf der Straße schnell fahren, aber wenn man das tut, heissts "dass ist keine Rennstrecke " gepaart mit einem Stinkefinger der anderen Verkehrsteilnehmer. Also was nun?

A lot of the faster and more experienced drivers need to understand it ain't a race. There are regular people and some that have never driven here before and to my knowledge this Nurburgring let's anyone drive as long as you own a vehicle and license while following the basic rules, correct me if I'm mistaken.
@danieljakobsen1289
@danieljakobsen1289 2 года назад
You're right, but if you're following the rules, you'd rarely get any accidents or dangerous situations. I guess when you're paying to go to Nürburgring for a drive, then you're trying to get as much action as you can, especially in front of the cameras. Which can lead to bad decisions. But tbf we're all humans and everyone makes mistakes sometimes.

I really get why this year there were some bad accidents and long track closures. Some drivers are way too close to the limit to allow for a safety margin that also considers the different levels of experience, different levels of track readiness of the cars and the general vibe of Touristenfahrten. Especially if you see how many need to overtake on the right into Galgenkopf. It's the last corner, it's not a race. -_- And holy cow the GR Yaris that hit the biker's leg.

@@laddtrycksberoende You can drive on the ideal line if you like during TF, but please do watch your mirrors and allow faster drivers to overtake you easily. IMO the core problem is drivers with too much ego and too little basic training. @DutchZXR

@@laddtrycksberoende This is clearly the fault of the Yaris. @camwat5193
@camwat5193 2 года назад
I drove this only once approximately 10 years ago. As a novice I’d say always be aware and stay right. Do not take a racing line. There are too many impatient, dangerous, intolerant drivers pushing hard for a time not accepting there are rules on the Nurburgring and on a tourist day you are all entitled to be there. Just stay right and stay out of trouble and let the nutcases get on with it guys.
@320iSTWEdition
@320iSTWEdition 2 года назад
The problem is.... if one nutcase overtakes you and clashes with another nutcase in front of you, you could find yourself right in the thick of a huge crash with no way out...... So even if you try your hardest to avoid a dangerous situation it is not fully up to you to do so...... so i'd say to you stay away for your own safety.

Unfortunetly some drivers forget that during Touristenfahrt the Nürburgring is considered a 'public' toll road where the German highway code applies. Instead they think 'Oh I'm on a race track. I can drive the way I like', wich results in some very nasty situations.
@michaelweigel2466
@michaelweigel2466 2 года назад
'public' toll road: I heard about this phrase first when an unlucky driver on the ring asked for money from his insurance after a bad crash some years ago. However they refused to pay one cent for the damages. It seems not really a "public toll road" in this regard ;)
@yasc_
@yasc_ 2 года назад
Well it's not technically a public road, that's why I put public in quotation marks. Nether the less the German highway code applies during Touristenfahrten so you are meant to drive in safe, respectfull way so you won't endanger other drivers. This also means no overtaking on the right side, no tailgaiting, etc. And if you want to Do same hotlaps go to a trackday instead of misusing Touristenfahrten for it. And on the insurence topic: they always try to find a reason to refuse payment, aren't they? ;)

@@michaelweigel2466 I would think that any insurance company that refused this was probably more down to the small print stating that you are not insured for any "racing, pacing etc" and because of the place will assume it was used for racing. Usually it is not up to them to prove this but for you to disprove them in order for the payout to be granted. They will always look for a way not to pay so always best to take out independent insurance for that purpose. As for that ring being considered a public road I would bet it is more for "following the rules of the road" and not a track. Would still love a shot there one day though. Must be amazing.

Soulhenge, it was always my dream and I eventually did it a few years ago. As a novice, just be aware and stay right. Don’t take the racing line or go for a ‘time’ which would see you wandering left and right all over the place and getting in the way of the nutcases. You can still go pretty quickly and have fun but you can relax a bit and enjoy the experience too. I did it in an airport rental Golf diesel which I picked up at Frankfurt Hahn. Plenty of torque and quite adequate for a one-off. Managed to get just one overtake but it was past an A8 Audi and it was on the Karussell!! So hey, the pros in their track prepared expensive cars might scoff at that, but the Tourist days at the ring are for living your dreams and open to everyone. Go and enjoy my friend, start easy, be aware, stay right, build your speed gradually, and at the end you’ll have your tale and memories that last forever 😍👍👍

These machos are in some camping putting up with their wife’s and kids. When you plan it make sure you do two days of ring then hit Spa in Belgium, it’s fairly close and two type of tracks. Aggression yes, but in equal measures there is a complete unawareness of track driving etiquette being demonstrated here by many drivers washed down with a dose of amnesia relating to the fact that driving the course is not actually not a race. Many of the drivers here could save themselves a fortune when taking into account tyre wear, fuel, travel costs etc. by booking themselves on a Palmersport day at Bedford where they will get to drive mostly better and faster cars safely at speed all day with a nice lunch thrown in, and without running the risk of having to make a fraudulent insurance claim into the bargain after they've stuffed their car into the barrier.

Having to pay for every yard of every lap makes people incredibly intolerant of others' behaviour. "How DARE you spoil my fast lap! I'll get you for that!" At least the traffic's only going in one direction, so they're not likely to smash into oncoming vehicles (as they do when driving like idiots on open public roads). But instead of it being a fun outing with the car you love, the Nürburgring experience becomes mile after mile of angry tit-for-tat swerves and blocks against some guy who's just as desperate as you are to prove he's faster and more skilled and more macho and - And will also never get a job alongside Misha and Robert because he's a pillock. I think some peeps genuinely would be better off driving a simulator. Getting to be a real racing driver takes years of hard work and dedication; anyone with a licence can buy a lap on the Ring - that's the whole fun of it - but nothing can buy a professional driver's temperament. Yep, the real world can be a frustrating and scary place. Even for grown-ups. 🤭

I actually think it's very similar to skiing. In both cases, the person in front has the right of way. But we both know that it's a good idea to look behind before you cut across the piste/slope, whether you're a beginner who can't link your turns together or a snowboarder doing aggressive carves. Similarly, like you said, it's best to keep an eye on your mirrors so you can get out of the way of anyone going faster than you.

That's a problem when the slow driver in front of you either doesn't know that or doesn't know their left from their right. Look at 14:00, the car is hugging the left with a left indicator to get people to pass them, and all three cars hesitate to pass, but do. Because breaking the rules is less dangerous than hanging around someone who is that clueless.
@gardenclaw6995
@gardenclaw6995 Год назад
The Porsche in that scenario doesn't really give the civic driver any other choice. Lines up and pulls out of a right hand overtake mid corner as the civic starts to move right (this causes the civic to exit the corner on the left) and then by the time they exit the corner the porsche is already lining up the second overtake. If the civic moves to the right it would have wiped the Porsche out. Impatience doesn't mean the rules don't apply. Civic made the safest call by indicating their intentions and just letting them all go rather than cutting across Infront of any of them.

I love this track. I've been round it in everything I've ever driven/ridden, almost. Everything from poor student days to silly expensive toys, I've blasted it down this track. But, if there is one thing I HATE is idiots who undertake. Its bloody dangerous and idiotic. If someone hasn't seen you, pull right, let them see you and let THEM pull in! Then you can OVERTAKE safely. There are cars with kids in, family dog, young drivers, they don't know what to do anyway, but especially if you break the rules! Some cars can be on you in seconds. Look, nothing, look, mad person in a Lamborghini trying to kill you! Not everyone is a racer. I've seen some really nasty crashes all caused by morons thinking they are Ayerton Senna..... your not! You want to do some time attack, pay for a clear lap! Why is it always BMWs that are the biggest idiots? Not just my observation.
@johnsullivan937

I've honestly noticed a pretty good amount of porsche drivers being pricks too, but yeah you're right almost always when its some affordable older m series car coming around the track they are either driving like they payed for a private drift session, or like they are taking part in some time attack battle, Usually younger guys early 20's to mid 30's trying to show off for youtube. My guess is it has something to do with locals driving german cars that view tourists or rental drivers as "lesser" and need to get out of their way. Not sure what about bmw's attracts young guys with more egos than brains, we even get that over here in the states. See some e36 flying up in the lane next to you? get ready to get cut off. I'm not gonna pretend like I'm some saint, I was a teenager once and drove like a prick too. But I grew up, and have much better self control now. I dont know why some guys dont grow out of that. Some of these dudes I see in their mid 30's still driving like an angry 16 year old.
