N64 Bowser's Castle (by Fatcat) - Mario Kart 8 Deluxe [4K] 

How did we get here

Not only does this look like a track from the base game, with its more realistic aesthetic and emphasis on anti-gravity. Bowser's castle here looks a lot more intimidating than the N64 original!

Now this is a remake. Doesn't just 1 to 1 port the track. Actually takes the time to modernize it.

Could use some Lava Oceans, but my GOD. It screams Bowser's Evil.

My favorite thing about the original track is how it feels off from Bowser’s usual vibe. You definitely cranked that atmosphere up to 11, it just feels so out of place and that’s why I love it.

I really like the idea of using the moss-covered Thwomp from Thwomp Fortress to reference Marty's green lighting from the original. The implication that Marty died and rotted away from being left in that cage for almost 30 years, not so much.

My only real criticism of this track is that it needs more lava, particularly in that one room with the wooden bridge. Aside from that, excellent work

As someone who grew up with MK64, I have to say this is really impressive - great job! Though I miss a bit the original atmosphere since the colors are completely different and the lava is missing. But in terms of track design, you brought it to the MK8 present very well.

This just seems like Bowser abandoned this castle just by the looks of it.

This is one of the greatest tracks ever made in Mario Kart history. It takes the best track in Mario Kart 64 and improves it in every aspect. Absolute perfection.❤️

This might be the best custom track I've ever seen. If this was base game, I wouldn't raise an eyebrow.

Modded Mario Kart tacks have come a long way! The modding was more simple with more basic textures and little to no vertex colors. Now, we have tracks rivaling the official ones! Anyway, the state the castle in is rather interesting. It looks very nice, yet the damage to it gives off the impression Bowser has recently abandoned it.

Its weird how fans can create/remake tracks that are on par with base Mario Kart 8 if not even better, yet Nintendo can’t add the sunset to Sunset Wilds

Finally an N64 Bowser's Castle update I like!

The only thing I feel would've made this better would be a gliding section at the end when you shift from anti-grav back to normal, otherwise this track is PERFECT! So beautiful and the design is remixed enough while retaining the original's vibes.

I gotta say, this FatCat really took their time reimagining this classic course in HD.

This track looks incredible it’s practically unrecognizable compared to its most recent Wii interpretation. So much detail and the main wall texture cast an amazing ominous light on the whole track. Great job!

I fucking love how Instead of infinite lava everywhere around the castle, the whole castle is just floating on air and every little detail of this track from the anti gravity, the rooms, the bridge over a water chamber is so fucking accurate for a remake. I wish this track was in mario kart booster course pass but i doubt they can do something better than this.

I love the artistic and stylistic choice of giving it this overhauled medieval gothic look! And the ruinous aesthetic with extra emphasis on the anti gravity just makes this course enthralling to look at! It’s just wonderful the modding community has come so far😍

The mad lad even put in Marty and not just a regular Thwomp, my god, if only all custom tracks were this good.

That's great! I hope we get some nice courses like this one in the next Mario Kart. I do hope they put an option for not getting the song faster in the Final Lap for those who want like me. Cause man, that soundtrack you used there is really great!

I came to see if Marty was still there, and I was not disappointed.

The low item block count bothers me so much as it did in the original, good job, I hate it. Personal rant aside, the castle looks absolutely beautiful, and keeping "Morty" behind bars was a nice touch. Could use some lava sea like someone else had mentioned

This reminds me heavily of how Mario Kart 8 used to look on Wii-U. Amazing work!

What's so intimidating about this is it's lack of lava. It looks like its floating in the sky, like it was ripped out of one of the Galaxy games or something. absolutely spectacular

This is How “Remaking” Tracks should look. The Original Layout but Modernized but at times have Layout Modifications to make it work better.

I love this iteration of N64 Bowser’s Castle, it’s so unique and different giving Castlevania vibes or Frankenstein !

This is an incredible rendition of one of my favourite Mario Kart tracks! I love the different vibe you've gone for with this one, with a more gothic, haunted feel, rather than the lava lake in the original. :)

I like how the track has a grassy, rainy ascetic. Really sticks out compared to the lava-coated looks of other Bowser Castles.

As imaginative as this is, I can’t help but prefer the more liminal and simplistic aesthetic of the original track. The fear factor with N64 Bowser’s Castle is how it’s just the hallways of a castle in a barren void of lava with Thwomps as the only living thing.
