To make future battery changes easier, do you know if a battery holder will fit in the controller pak? I've seen a video where they fit in the n64 game cartridges that use them... with minor trimming to the battery holder.
I don't think there's enough room for one. I might be wrong, because it's hard to tell, but I don't think so. I personally don't think it's worth using battery holders. All the batteries I've replaced for these videos didn't actually need to be replaced. The battery has a chance of falling out with a holder. Also, you MIGHT replace a battery only once or twice in your lifetime. It's not worth it, IMO. Of course, you can if you want. Little projects like that are fun. 😁
There's a cr1616 holder that people on gbc cartridges, it would fit. Cr1616 is smaller and wouldn't last as long as a cr2032, but i think these batteries dry out because of time instead of use. It's not like in Pokémon GSC where the internal clock is consuming the battery.
I don't have the tools to fix mine. Both of my memory cards have shorted out recently. I have a small nintendo branded one and a 4 page aftermarket one. I wonder how much it would cost me to get them repaired?
Have 2 paks that need battery replacement. Watched this video to see what the process would be. I do soldering at a professional level, so no worries there. Bought some CR2032 batteries with the leads. Fired up the solder station, opened one up, lo and behold it is socketed, not soldered! Opened the other pak, same thing. Luckily had one leadless CR2032 on hand, so I installed it into one of the paks. However I found that the pak would not hold a save, and the Perfect Dark format/repair method wasn't working. The pak's battery socket has + lead on the left side that is supposed to be perpendicular to the PCB in order to make contact witht the side rim of the battery, and has - lead on the right side that is supposed to lay flat parallel to the PCB to make contact with the bottom of the battery. Turns out I did a dumbdumb when I installed the new battery into the socket; I managed to bend the + leads down so that both the + and - leads were in contact with the - side of the battery. Popped the battery out, bent the + socket lead back up into the proper position, then re-installed battery. After once again trying the Perfect Dark format/repair, it worked just fine thereafter.
Sorry, my english is bad. Could you post here the name of the battery? Is it "CR2032"? Any mark works? (Sony, Panasonic etc) EDIT: Do the third-party n64's Memory paks have the same battery?
Cani you help me bro? I bought one of these and can not record any progress of any game, I asked the seller and he told me that the battery is still charged ... what will it be? great video!
The only thing I can think of is the battery is dead. It's possible the battery died after the seller sent it and before you got it. (Stranger things have happened.) I think the first step is to change the battery and see if that works. Sorry it took me so long to respond. I usually get alerts when people comment, but I wasn't alerted to your's for some reason.
Probably as it required some experience with soldering and tools, and doesn't help people that want to use their card that night. That said, it should be expected with any repairs like these involving batteries
Mine has finally died. I’m so pissed as well cuz I was playing South Park. I haven’t even finished the game. I fucking hate whoever invented the controller pak, cuz clearly games would have a better chance at staying saved. Or why didn’t they just use the same thing the cartridges use to save, but on the controller pak??? IT DOESNT MAKE ANY FUCKING SENSE AND I HOPE WHOEVER INVENTED THE CONTROLLER PAK GOT FIRED FROM NINTENDO CUZ THEYVE CAUSED ME TO LOSE THE PROGRESS OF MY FAVORITE N64 GAME!!!!!!
