had to do it with a copy of phantasy star 4 I have had for many many years. old saves all gone, wouldn't save. sucks because it's almost like losing a part of your own life history but sometimes it's gotta be done. when that happend I dumped all my old save data on a pc and started replacing all the batteries in my genesis games.
Mine has finally died. I’m so pissed as well cuz I was playing South Park. I haven’t even finished the game. I fucking hate whoever invented the controller pak, cuz clearly games would have a better chance at staying saved. Or why didn’t they just use the same thing the cartridges use to save, but on the controller pak??? IT DOESNT MAKE ANY FUCKING SENSE AND I HOPE WHOEVER INVENTED THE CONTROLLER PAK GOT FIRED FROM NINTENDO CUZ THEYVE CAUSED ME TO LOSE THE PROGRESS OF MY FAVORITE N64 GAME!!!!!!
my genesis has blaring right channel audio, left channel is normal. this means loud on the headphone jack and also the rear coaxial output (which uses right channel audio). recapped, no change, also different power supplies, no change. bad chip?
Thanks for the vídeo, i have a mega Drive 1 va 6 that has a bit of noise, the tipical noise from a bad amplifier, It sounds when the console is not playing audio (pause menú etc) but seems to work fine when the audio is playing. I have checked the console and everything seems to be fine, tested with a sega original power supply and a new one not original. Cleaned the cartridge slot, Jack audio etc, everything seems to be ok, my PSU jack-board solders are okey, pretty good condition, im thinking maybe trying to reflux?, add a bit of solder. Any sugestión?, thanks for the vídeo.
Just one advice - You are "warming" battery too long, try to solder those battery pins a little bit quicker. Those batteries loose voltage when You warm them too much. Just lean solder tip on pin and add new tin. Quicker You do this, better for the battery :) And always clean it all after with IPA. Tin has flux inside, and flux can make damage after time.
100% what I do when I get a new mega cd 2 is replace the battery and caps. Replacing the caps is 100% needed on the mega cd 1. FRAM mod is nice but a hot air gun is required. Along with a multi region BIOS. The fuse also likes to pop, you can replace that with a self resettable fuse. For the battery I use a socket, with wires and a ML2032 battery. Its hard to get the RF shield on after replacing the battery otherwise, with a socket.
Wheredja go, bro? The algorythm brought me to you too late! If you rerember your login info, do Treasures of Tarmin! I beat that game when I was 5. Now that my boy is 5 I tried to show him and I haven't a flarkin clue what I am doing
Quick note: I would avoid bridging pins with those aligator clips. Once that battery is in circuit, you might be sending voltage somewere it isnt supposed to go. Good video otherwise though
When I turn on I get this message: " you must first set the calendar ...", I have used many controls but it does not leave that screen, is it just the battery?
LoL, Journey, Separate Ways ie Worlds Apart, how fitting. Yeah, I'm playing this thing too, and thx for timing that conversation: the dialogues are excruciating, redundant and irrelevant info dumps. The puzzles are annoying too: click and click again, run there and go back to click a third time on the same thing.(1) And on top of all that, people call this the best adventure game ever: so I continue to play thinking the revelation will come, but no, I'm two thirds through... ...I 'm going crazy. - signed, late to "the late to the game" comment EDIT: (1) "doing the same thing repeatedly, and expecting different results is the definition of insanity"
Eh, it’s a point and click adventure in the 90s. Whattya expect? 🤷♂️ personally, I enjoyed it even though the ending leaves you to think April has a big future ahead of her, but nope. They decide to off her in the next game.
@@HexedPedestrian I saw other stuff and dug down to fuse and it seems bad so just waiting on board to come in. My first gen GameCube has port for 480 cable, are those cheap?
The Genesis version is widely regarded as the better game by fans for a multitude of reasons. But the SNES version is great with better music and better environments, but that's it.
Thank you for finally posting a Utopia review that is truly accurate to the game Play and you explained everything in great detail, CORRECTLY. We were poor and in late 83 my parents found a console and the games all clearance out to 2 to 3 bucks apiece. We had all the standard licensed arcade hits but THIS and Mission X is how I spent my hours playing. It's sad haven't played this in over 30 years and I can still remember the placement of the overlays by heart and the costs. I say it's sad because if you ask me a question now, 30 seconds later I can't remember anything you just said. But stuff from the 80s? Rock solid memory! I've seen too many of these Utopia game commentaries of usually two bumbling millenials going uh, I don't know what to do (read the God damn booklet first? Google?) And then when they do play they just go right to crops, plant the whole island of crops or especially in the weather dead zones) I always bought a fort first round, placed near the water, my fishing boat, couple of crops and then a factory near the fort, followed by housing in same location then the rest once I've built up a little. Unless you like endless fishing don't leave your rounds TOO long or short, 45-60 secs make it go by quickly and gives you enough time to take care of business each round. I hope you enjoyed playing it, and thanks for posting a very accurate realistic POV.
Hey, I just wanna say thanks a lot for this video. My copy of Shining Force wouldn't save and this Battery replacement video saved me from shelling out money on another copy that may have also had a dead battery in it.
@@HexedPedestrian @Hexed Pedestrian Cheers, never got around to listening to Queensryche, this track reminds me a little of Dio, but with a more crunchy riff cheers.
@@HexedPedestrian Did you back-up the save games or weren't there any on it? I just received my back up RAM cart but I can't get it formatted and get available blocks in the system menu. I suspect the battery might be dead so looking to replace it. Instead of a conventinal CR2450 with solder ends I'm considering installing a socket for easier replacement in ~25 years.
Unfortunately this game was unknown in Europe back in the days. I was able to play it only recently and it was still holding up, such a hidden gem. Game gets really good after the first few frustrating hours.
18:07 The GameCube actually losses the settings when not powered on for maybe 1 or 2 hours. A quick reset will not prove it works, but I assume it does work because it's an easy fix.
Check those electrolytic capacitors. This was from the mid-70s and Japanese caps at that time were very iffy about aging. It’s possible they could reform if you just turn it on and let it sit for a few hours
These "rainbow" and dot crawl composite artifacts are not present on good pvm with comb filter - the composite(even ntsc one) can really look wholesome with right crt and console
Have 2 paks that need battery replacement. Watched this video to see what the process would be. I do soldering at a professional level, so no worries there. Bought some CR2032 batteries with the leads. Fired up the solder station, opened one up, lo and behold it is socketed, not soldered! Opened the other pak, same thing. Luckily had one leadless CR2032 on hand, so I installed it into one of the paks. However I found that the pak would not hold a save, and the Perfect Dark format/repair method wasn't working. The pak's battery socket has + lead on the left side that is supposed to be perpendicular to the PCB in order to make contact witht the side rim of the battery, and has - lead on the right side that is supposed to lay flat parallel to the PCB to make contact with the bottom of the battery. Turns out I did a dumbdumb when I installed the new battery into the socket; I managed to bend the + leads down so that both the + and - leads were in contact with the - side of the battery. Popped the battery out, bent the + socket lead back up into the proper position, then re-installed battery. After once again trying the Perfect Dark format/repair, it worked just fine thereafter.
When I plugged the ribbon back in, my GameCube stopped reading discs. If I take the ribbon out, discs are read & the laser/motor work completely fine. What did I do wrong here?
My apologies, I thought you meant the cartridge cleaners, not the console cleaners. My bad. I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you keep your games clean after you've cleaned the console, it shouldn't be much of an issue.
@@HexedPedestrian No need to apologize because you did answered my question based on "nes console cleaner" I just want to learn how to remove the stains from both Nes console cleaner and game cartridge cleaner so I can reuse them without buying a new one
Using the same dirty cleaning pad will spread contamination to all of your game cartridges. It's best to use cleaning Q-tips because it comes more tips in a bag. But the Q-tip cotton material isn't as brushy as the sponge you're using here :(
