A Navajo healer once said that Navajo think of their descendants, realizing anything they do can affect at least 7 generations. My great grandfather was Blackfoot. My mother adored him, and transferred that love to me. I really enjoyed this lecture, it helped me understand their relationship even more. She was always happiest as a child on his farm.

There are some wonderful insights in this talk about Maslow's learnings from his experience with the Blackfoot people. Not least the realization that the innate way of people coexisting is not one of intense competition, but actually led by people who possess huge humility and self effacement.

Maslow went to stay with the Blackfoot in Alberta in 1938. It's a fact, that he drew inspiration from the Blackfoot peoples' knowledge and wisdom when he created his model of the hierarchy of needs.
