Week 7 of the Surrey Championship Division 2 sees Sanderstead host Dulwich on a cool June day. A fast track and slick outfield promised a close game between two well-matched sides, and the outcome doesn't disappoint.
Notable for another classy knock from Shareef and a very tight finish with all results possible.

Sanderstead CC TV only so many times you can keep saying that, his talent should be seeeing him get Ton's not pretty 40's & 50's bat through and this and other games would have been easier wins and a few losses possibly draws or wins

Gun players find it easier to score 100’s than get out. I reckon he’s pretty much at his level, you have to remind yourself that players who made it to the top level were scoring double hundreds at the age of 15. Shareef is a very good looking batter, but if he wants to get into the county team he’s going to have to put together some hundreds back to back and score 1500 runs a season to force his way in. Up here in Newcastle we had a lad bowling about 85mph, He got into the county second team and got smashed everywhere, that county level is just something else like. We all thought he would cruise it. It’s tough at that level. Remember shareef doesn’t just have to bat well, some one at that level above has to be dropped for his place. And if they’re doing nothing wrong it just May never happen. I hope he proves me wrong though I wish him all the best 💪

I'm 29 and a big football fan! I thought to myself right I'm going to try and see if I can get into cricket and I am shocked as I really enjoyed watching this! The commentary helped! My local cricket team plays down grace road in Leicester!

Great to hear! I shared a cricket coach with Aggers (Les Berry, Leicestershire) and grew up on TMS with Johnners, Blowers, Aggers etc so I guess I've picked up their nuances by osmosis. Also Benaud is a huge influence (eg "6 more like a 9" is from Headingly '81) as is Peter Allis - a master of understated "shade" and English eccentricity. Thank you! Dan

Nice game. Why the barrage of short balls is beyond me. I miss cricket. Our season got abandoned after half the season because of the drought in Cape Town. Its been raining for this past week but our dam levels still not good. Hope for a full season this time around.

Agreed - As you can probably tell from the commentary, I am also puzzled by the over-reliance on the short ball as a strategy! In this league good old line and length will always be best. I heard about Cape Town water problems and hope the rains come soon for you - meanwhile, you'll have to get your cricket fix from us!!!

has been raining since friday but the dams only 30% full. We have been paying high water bills because of the water shortage. Atleast we get water. Theres places where they don't have clean drinkable water straight from the tap. We are having our AGM this sunday. Think we only playing 50 overs a side games this year if we get onto the ffield.

Bloody hell. Your seasons get abandoned because of LACK of rain? In England, we have half our games called off because of too MUCH rain. Wish we could send some of our cloud over your way.

I hope so too. Our summer is really summer. At least this winter we are getting some rain. Our dams are at a combined 50% full. But the biggest dam is only at 36%. It holds more than half the combined capacity. Most of our season we get 95% of the games done. Our danger period is mostly the first few and last few games.

Thanks for your kind words - we love the ground, too, it’s modest size is the key reason we can create such good content as we can get quite close to the action. I use a Canon EOS 77D with a 80-250mm telephoto lens.

from batting crease to boundary is about 55 yards straight and (depending on where the strip is) about 65 yds square

Don’t know - we’ll have to get them speed checked in the winter (on video of course). Probably close to 80mph? If they pitched it up more and bowled straighter they would be deadly.....

Shareef and Tyler are class bats, but they don't value their wickets highly enough. They could have both had big not-outs against that attack with more disciplined shot choices.... Great vids though. TY from NZL.

Carrying through nice and short balls are coming off the deck very fast ! I have faced 83mph on the machine at a length but opening against that attack I would make me feel uneasy. If you can get a speedo on both openers even in the nets that would be awesome.

Ive been curious as to why there doesn't seem to be a third man? Is it a common practice in England in limited overs games? Especially for someone bowling as quick as Jackson.

Arjun Shiv it’s a good question and there’s no right or wrong. The straight boundaries are quite short so there’s no guarantee a third man would stop much at Jacko’s pace, also in the early overs it’s more important to get wickets than save runs, hence all the slips.

We're looking into it - have tried go pro in the nets, but the umpires/league probably won't allow it on Saturday games. Maybe try it on a friendly/Sunday game. Watch this space.....
