Greening up deserts is a wonderful accomplishment. The permaculture method will guide you so as to be able to grow trees, bushes, and crops. I also like the idea of growing 7’ x 7’ desert grass grids and planting crops and trees within the protective grass walls. Eventually, the extremely long grass roots will help compost the desert sand. The desert grass will also raise the water table and bring more rain.

So true. Small, small small is best. “A small herb garden right beside your kitchen door where even on a rainy cold night one can pick ….without getting your fluffy slippers wet”. Bill Mollison❤ Also leave remnant bush land trees and the eco systems they create. Wow this block being Western facing, sloping and rocky is super hard. Yet you will transform it like your other wonderful greening the desert projects…….to all the masses of permits involved WELL DONE!

I can't wait to get started. Still trying to scrape together enough for a few acres.

Excellent advice. Once you get it right you will have enough abundance to turn a profit, with a plant nursery propagating and selling cuttings for example, to fund further expansion.

You could get funding to join the line project in Saudi Arabia. Only 220 meters wide.

Is sloped lands always bad though? I mean it has better drainage and as bill said you can plant more trees compared to flat land not to mention the orographic lift or condensation and aquifer recharge but oh well even in desert people are trying to rip you off for well desert sand... And we are trying to repair it! Oh well.

No sloped lands are good. Necessary for some things even. But gentle slopes are generally better than steep slopes because water has a greater chance to slow down and soak in. And plenty of other problems in a place like the desert. If nothing else, they're just more difficult for humans to walk up. So some slope is good. Steep slope is less good.

Love you vlogs, super informative and great learning tool. But I’m not going to bother watching something that’s 1 minute long,I’m sorry but it’s not worth the effort!!

This is great advice, I started about 9 years ago and am just now really honing in on what actually works in my area. I'm glad I didn't make my beginner mistakes on a larger scale or I would be in quite a different place now..
