My daughter and I use a polish thinner for the old, thick polishes. You can also get the last of your polish out of the bottle

I have been colecting nail polish for years. I love the bright colors I will get. I have nail polish in every color in the rainbow and metallics and glitters. The reason I collect polish is for jewelry work. You can change a bead or finding to a color you need. I also use it to brighten old jewelry findings. I can't wait to do this. God Bless

The metallic polish will be amazing I think. Let me know how you made out when you try this....teehee.

What an interesting technique. looks like so much fun. Now I need to go out and get some nail polish. I know your thinking really???? Yes, this girl doesn't use nail polish. I never can keep it on my nails so I gave up long ago. lol Anyways love the beautiful color combinations you used. Hugs Sue

That is cute Sue. I know what you mean however. A friend of mine went to the Dollar Tree and said she found loads of polishes in a bin that were 10 for a dollar. Hi Carol, have been watching a lot of utube videos but have to say yours are the VERY BEST ive ever seen. I was looking to do something like creating different coloured blotches for backgrounds on white card stock using mica powder and alcohol but it kept clogging my spray bottles, have tried eye shadow powders with alcohol and water but still no good. Have you any ideas you can share please!! Many thanks. Babs
@CarolHeld
@CarolHeld 7 лет назад
Good morning Babs. Thanks for stopping by, and for viewing my tutorials. I don't mix my powders much, but like to apply water on the page first, then the powders to the water. I find they clog if I don't have the right consistency. I buy the sprays already mixed. hahaha A lazy mans spray. LOL The only powders I know that work well with water are the Perfect Pearls. Hope that helps. Have a wonderful day. Thanks also for the kind compliment about my tutorials. smiles

Good evening to you Corinne. I have them put away for die cutting on projects where the colours are conducive one with another. I also find them great for a quick background if you have the right focal point to add to the top. Good evening KK. I did this tutorial some time ago and from what I remember I didn't put any coat of anything to preserve them and I still have some that I use for decorating envelopes. smile I think this method would be great on Kodak shine paper. OMGOSH!!! I can't wait to see the cards you create!! I have tons of nail polish that I use for painting my paper beads. When you do your black and white get the shimmer/glitter and add that in. You will be amazed at the effects and color play it will bring you. Have you tried using a paper punch or die cutting machine on the paper yet? I'm wondering if the polish will crack and flake off! I think I will cut my shapes first and then dip them. lol...can you tell how excited I am about this technique? lol Thank you so much for sharing!

When I put the die cut through, I put a dryer sheet between the card and die, that way I didn't take a chance of it separating. Also, die cut from the back of the watercolour card stock. smiles I can't wait to here what you think about it when you give it a try. smiles

This is so cool🔥 Quick question: I want to write a word on the card. Would it best to try and move the nail polish while it’s in the water to try and form the word I want (like you did with the hearts) or should I use the nail polish remover on the paper to write the word?
@CarolHeld
@CarolHeld 3 года назад
Good afternoon Leago. I would add a die cut piece of paper to the bottom of your page or simply write on another spot of your card. I hope this helps. I am not sure of using the nail polish remover, but it sure sounds like it would work also. haha Thank you very much for taking the time to view and to comment. Have a great creative week. Blessings

I just love this video, but cannot get mine to work. The nail polish clumps up, dries out very fast or sinks to the bottom. I tried warm water, cold water, different papers, thinning the polish with remover. Nothing seems to work. On the bits that are not too bad the polish just peels off. What am I doing wrong. HELP!!!!! Thanks.

Hello there. I searched out some tutorials for you to see if we could resolve the problem. I saw that using a cheaper brand caused the gluing agent to float on the top making the color not able to bloom out. I was thinking that I used 140 lb. watercolour card stock so maybe the great results I had was due to the high poundage of water-colour paper. I hope that this helps in some way. I hope you get better results in the future . Have a great weekend.

Carol Held thanks so much for your help. I read so many tutorials and watched so many videos my head was swimming. Some say cheap is better others say no. I think the paper is important. Have not given up yet. If it worked for you, I have to believe it will for me as well. Again, thanks Carol.

I do my nails to much hahahaha I saw a tutorial on this some time ago. It was 4 years ago to be exact. It was using ink with toner I think. I was doing my nails today...fancy that, haha and I remembered that tutorial. I thought I would try in with water, as it repeals the polish.....I was AMAZED at the result. I saw a tutorial on this with nail application last year as well. Nothing is original my friend. lol Nothing new under the sun. That was the words of the wisest man in the world. Carol, did you actually try doing a large canvas using a cookie sheet? How did it work out? Did you make videos of projects using the nail polish cards you made for this video? I am not finding any. I ordered a set of cheap nail polish from Amazon. I got 12 different colors. I can't wait to try this now that I have decided to go ahead and use my 140 pound Bee Company watercolor paper. It is such thick paper. I am going to use a piece of plastic tablecloth rather than paper towels or parchment paper. I hope it works. I have used pieces of the plastic for other work. I just use a little poster putty on each corner to hold it to my kitchen counter.

Hi Donna ....No, I didn't do a canvas using a cookie sheet. hahaha That would be hysterical. I made a card that had an oven, and the cookie sheet slid out with ginger bread men baking in the oven. lol I did make cards using this technique . I will check out my tutorials for you in the morning. I am off to bed, as I have a cold, and need some sleep. lol I will check first thing. Have a great week.

🙏🏽Thank U Carol for this video!.. I stumbled upon the glue gun flower tutorial first & heard U mention about your nail polish art video. Never heard or seen this technique before so thank U kindly!.. This will allow me to use up an enormous collection of nail polish I've had for years!!!.. Wanna ask a question: if the polish is a little dried up, could I use nail polish remover to liquify the polish first before dropping in the water?.. Thanks again for this video & your smarts 🙏🏽👍🏽😘❤️

Good afternoon Marie. It is my pleasure to meet you here on my Channel today. I actually thought of that idea, but didn't try it for the tutorial. I would imagine it would be fantastic. I would love to know if it worked out for you. I do that when I am running low on a nail polish colour it it thickened on me, so I don't know why it wouldn't work using this method. Maybe it would be a bit more translucent, which would look great too! Have a very nice week coming up.

Good afternoon and a warm welcome to my channel. Sorry for delay in answering your question. I have not been creating lately so I didn't see your message. This is the Kodak paper you get when you order inks. You can get the kind of paper online that is a better quality I am sure. It has the nice shiny consistency on one side and a flat base on the other. I hope this helps you. If you have any questions please message me and I will be happy to answer in a better time frame. hahaha Have a Blessed week.

I did this on newspapers over table...no need to clean up anything except the tweezers. Disclaimer, did try it last summer w/o air conditioner, and it all dried on water before I could get the paper in the bowl!! Lol.😂 😂

I am so sorry I missed this comment Marcy. I am so thrilled to here about the no clean method. haha I should have been up on that one for sure. LOL When I lived in the small farm house next door, I had to create without A/C all summer long. Now, I live in the large farm house, and have A/C, and an entire floor to create. God is so good, isn't He? I feel so bad for the elderly, that have to endure hot summers, and no A/C for relief. Thanks for sharing with me, and I am so pleased I saw your comment. Have a wonderful week.

Carol Held , I have done this process again, without ac, and had no problems. I'm wondering now if the fan blowing across the room caused it to dry too fast. Anyway, the clean up is easier with the newspapers either way! Lol. Thanks for your videos! Love to get everyone's new ideas!!

I have Bee Company 140 pound, cold press professional series watercolor paper. It is stated to be archival quality also. Would that work for this or should I get Strathmore? I know that Strathmore has 140 pound paper in 300, 400, or 500 series. Do you know what those numbers mean?

Thanks so much, Carol! It did not occur to me that there would be a RU-vid video to inform me. I think my 140 pound Bee Company watercolor will be fine. It is very thick and archival quality is the best with Bee Company. I guess a year ago, without knowing much about watercolor paper, I still purchased a good paper. You can really spend a fortune on good watercolor paper. I hope this paper will not warp.

I am not sure about the acetate, but if I was going to give you my thoughts about it I would say, "yes". haha It isn't like water-colour paint where it would slide off, right? Good evening Abby. I have been asked this question before and for some reason, the nail polish I used didn't leave an after odor on the cardstock. Thank you so much for taking the time to view this tutorial and for leaving me a sweet comment. I hope that you are able to find some kind of nail polish that is not so strong. smile I was wondering if you thinned out the nail polish with some nail polish remover it would be better? Let me know if you find a solution so I can pass it on if someone else has an issue. It would be appreciated. Have a fabulous week. .
