I also like to line some garments I make. It keeps light colored fabrics from being too see-through, it keeps skirts from clinging or creeping up, it's easier to put on a lined jacket over a sweater, especially when you line the sleeves, lining makes everything slip right on and off. It looks classy when you roll up your sleeve and there is lining instead of a fast-fashion serged hem.
Thank You for this video and the invisible zipper (with the foot link). I've just started making garments again after a 30yr gap and have forgotten so many things. I'm just about to make a calf length princess line dress that needs lining but the pattern doesn't include lining and it has a 22" zip. The two video's are really useful.
I can line skirts ok, but jackets and dresses I've yet to try. Everytime I look for a pattern, I always look for something without lining because I'm apprehensive about it. But my aim to to tackle some things that need lining, as I want to make more of what I buy. This vid was superb. Thank you
Thank you so much for this. To me a lining makes the garment so slinky next to your skin and make you feel like the garment is really finished like a high end garment. Hope you show how to do the sleeves or is there no need to line them? Would be interested to know what you think? :)
Hi Juliet, I'm the same as Fay really, and I must get making those linings. I totally agree with you, that it finishes off the outfit so much better and helps things hang great I'm sure..not to mention that it helps your skirt from hitching up if your wearing tights 😋. Great tutorial .... thanks so much Juliet 👌💓😘
I know this is a couple of years old, but had a question. Can I do this method of sewing along the zipper if I'm putting a lining in a little girl's dress where the bodice lining and skirt lining are sewn together, then sewing the whole thing to the zipper as you did with just the bodice? Thanks for the video!
This is exactly the type of dress I want to line, but unfortunately, there is so much flipping around of the fabric without actually showing what you're doing, and...I thought this was how to line a sleeved dress? But not a word about sleeves and how to attach them.
Hello Annette, Thanks so much for the question. For me, if the dress has sleeves, I don't line the sleeves. What I do is I sew the sleeves on to the dress and dress lining at the armhole. The only time I add lining to sleeves is jackets or coats.
