The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed Nairobi's chronic water shortage. Worse, it has deepened the inequalities that are rarely acknowledged which show their ugly teeth in the way the scarce natural resource is distributed in Kenya's capital.
One of the recommended means of combating the coronavirus is constantly washing hands with soap and water. With a crippling water shortage, many of Nairobi's 2.5 million slum dwellers are left to choose between preserving the little that they have and staying safe, on top of the usual risks posed by poor sanitation.
