Rosmah Mansor, the wife of former Malaysia prime minister Najib Razak, was found guilty of corruption on Thursday (Sep 1). The Kuala Lumpur High Court sentenced her to 10 years in jail and a fine of RM970 million (US$216 million). She will remain free on bail pending appeals to higher courts.

@@hanyenchan Royal pardon won’t come so fast as Najib still has several other cases which will take some time to conclude. He will have to serve time in prison first. As for Rosmah, final judgement will only come when the Federal Court passes judgement.

I don't know much about law. If you have been sentenced and then wish to appeal, you must serve the sentence pending the appeal or serve the sentence after conviction on appeal?

Hukuman ditangguhkan sebelum rayuan diselesaikan. Rosmah is just buying time with the appeals, if her husband's fate is anything to go by. I reckon the appeals to the Court of Appeal, and then to the Federal Court, will uphold the original conviction. Aku terkejut kalau hasil rayuan tak kekalkan sabitan Rosmah!

The sentence starts upon the date of conviction. In the meantime, the defendant will apply for bail pending an appeal to higher court. Once bail is granted, the convicted person does not go to jail until her appeal is exhausted. It may take years for the appeal to be concluded as seen in many cases.

I remember the huge saga whereby all Malaysians working overseas were persistent to be back to country to vote. One even commented “Even if there is a monkey, I will vote for monkey”. Thus concluded the corruption too huge and affected the ordinary Malaysians very badly. One truly has to pay for corruption as the national money are the hard earned money of every individual. Thus a deterrent from such behaviour for the future with heavy sentence is fair. The judges are wise and fair. ✅👏

Only when she finally goes to jail can we know that there is justice. How many times we saw the convictions only to be overturned at higher courts? Once UMNO wins the elections with politicians favourable to these convicts, then we begin to see these sentences set aside. Mind you, UMNO is still popular. May the people wake up to vote these corrupt folks out!

A clean bill is definitely needed but it won't happen. Still too many nosy busybodies hanging on to power
