I don't think I ever heard a theater audience laugh as hard as they did at this baseball sequence. RIP to the Master,Leslie Nielsen; The world will always need laughter.
Yes. My dad and I literally thought we were both going to die from laughter at that moment in the movie. we could not breathe, keeled over on our knees in the aisle
@@spursnation4737 Oh the series made best use out of the doubles. Remember in 33 1/3 when Jane is trying to give Frank a massage and takes his shirt off, in which the camera cuts to Franks back which looks like a bodybuilder. Great stuff
The Mariners being there in what's supposedly a tight pennant race is definitely a joke. The Angels were within an eyelash of the '86 World Series, two seasons before the movie went into production (though the '87 team was under .500).
I absolutely lose it at 0:18. The deafening silence after the ball hits the catcher's mitt, while everyone waits for Frank to make a call, followed by the catcher turning to look back him inquiringly, all leading up to... "...Strike?"
JohnLutherable Although it probably wasn't intended....to baseball fans...it's a reminder of how we feel when umpires think they are bigger than the sport of baseball. Still...this is the funniest part of the movie.
Ah, does anyone else remember when "parody" movies were actually genuinely great movies where they put all kinds of effort and pride into the script and production? Now they're considered bottom feeders; stuff that you don't have to put any effort into, but are cheap and fast (Scary Movie 10, Epic movie, etc); all you need to do is reference the latest reality TV show and they'll turn a profit, I guess.
These were always a bit low brow. Think of movies like "The Other Guys". It's just a different time's sense of humor that we find somehow more sophisticated.
He called the third strike before the ball even crossed the plate! LOL! This scene and the press conference where he goes to take a leak and forgets he still has his mike on!
I was running sound at a conference and they wanted the mics locked on. So, I informed the talking heads that the mic is locked on, so it needs to be removed and returned immediately after use. So one of them does not heed the warning and does exactly that. During the introduction, there was a flush heard and had to quickly mute the mic that person was wearing, lol.
+Dan K, an underrated classic. remember catching this movie as a 16 yr old and I literally LOL'd in the theater during this strike 3 shot. Think I've only done that one other time in my life.
I've always loved how he calls strike three before the ball is even caught. LOL.. and that cool little foot behind the knee spin dance move he does.. I've been trying to do it for the last 25 years w/no luck.
Frank Drebin is a legendary character of comedy played so well by the great Leslie Nielson. In the original which was hilarious this scene had Drebin on a baseball field disguised as an Umpire. One player is going to kill the Queen and he needs to find out which one it is. I love the way after the first guy gives him a whack with the bat he recovers and says after prompting looking "Strike." After that he gets pretty excited about it with his and dances as he says it! But he has to search every player to try and find the one who is going to kill the Queen and its brilliant!
The first Naked Gun movie is one of the funniest I’ve ever seen. This scene in particular had me laughing so hard in the theater my stomach was hurting.
This is one of those losses that is actually going to be felt throughout the comedy movie world. It almost hurts, and I think the only way to feel better is to laugh, which is the reason Leslie was given to us in the first place. We are jealous of those in heaven now because they get to laugh along with you, Leslie. Rest in piece, good sir.
Haha...almost as funny as the part where Drebin is on the docks: Drebin: "Have you seen him before?" Worker: "Uh, I don't know. My memory ain't too good." Drebin: "Oh yeah, [hands worker a $20 bill] Maybe this will help."
I absolutely adore this scene. no shit, I think it's some of the best comedy stuff ever filmed. look at how good the editing is - how exact the timing of the cuts, how perfectly it elevates Leslie Nielsen's amazing performance. and I just love the concept of it. it's so human, it's so relatable. Frank wasn't there to get famous, he was there because he _had_ to be for the case. he didn't ASK to become the most beloved man in that stadium, but once he got a taste he promptly lost his shit. and if the perfectly smooth moonwalk isn't how it actually LOOKS when we've lost our minds to sudden fame and adoration by all, it's totally how it _feels._ I hope every one of us has felt this way at least once; like they've got the whole world in our palm, in the pocket. especially if we didn't expect it. because it was so easily won, so easily lost. 15 Minutes of Fame is a learning experience we all need in our lives.
djembe41 No, it isn't. The batter at the plate hit a grand slam, which means everyone on base gets to trot home, and add to their team's score. You're clearly an idiot if you think literally every second of this scene was intended to be humorous.
Let's see; in a grand slam or otherwise, the most players that can run past 2nd in one play are the batter, 1st base, and likely the base runner at 2nd has a lead so you won't see him run past. It's just one little joke of many that's easy to miss, typical of a Nielson film. And yes, it's definitely all on purpose, by design. Other than that, I have no idea idea what you maggots are blathering at me about because it was just a seven word comment.
I remember watching this in the theater. When the strike 3 part came on, I was literally on the isle floor laughing. The whole theater was laughing and screaming.😂
I thought one of the funniest parts is the Mariner's manager being so nonchalant as he gave his players signals; first by hand gestures, then by flag semaphore code, then by Morse code with a spotlight, all the while looking the other way.
Man the fact that he thought they were cheering for him and not the strikes itself will always be COMEDIC GOLD. Then he didn't even let dude pitch all the way before he yelled for the 3rd strike, he wasn't even looking Lmaooo!! Oh man.. 😂😂 seen this movie A LOT as a child and this Shit still funny as shit😭😭 good laughs bruh
One of the funniest scenes in movies. The "Strike Calls" were classic and the "Michael Jackson touch" was so damn funny. This had the whole movie house cracking up. Many people couldn't get this humor but the crowd that night sure did
