35 Minute. A steam loco hauled cane trains up Howard St Nambour for at least 3 Nambour Cane weeks in the late 1990s.

this cane Tramway is one of the things that made Nambour so unique it is a shame that it is gone it should never have been removed an amazing part Queensland rail history

Yes, it was always worth a visit and an easy one day outing from Brisbane. Just how uneconomical or not it was will probably never be known, but the foreign owners decide to shut it down. Whether they would have or could have sold it to the farmers, is not quite clear. But since the railway was gone there’s not much need to visit Nambour any more, except that before too long a tourist ride will be operating on the old tracks even if the proposed vehicle looks ghastly.

Deadset awesome thanks for uploading this. I grew up in Nambour/Woombye this brings back alot of great memories. I still remember being a part of the sugar festivals in the 80s riding my push bike all decorated up. The smell of Nambour during cane season i actually miss that...

I totally agree with Straight outta Yandina and can certainly relate, I'm also a fella who grew up in Nambour as well. Even today, I still miss the cane train action along Howard and Mill Sts and the nostalgic and historic years of the sugar cane industry (throughout July to December) in the Sunshine Coast region

Lorry was decorated to match and promote a little book for kids. I think it mostly promoted safety around the trains. The whole network was quite fascinating.

Very much so, i used to read the books in the 90s when I was a kid and still have them too. The old days of Nambour. Knowning I'll never see Nambour again can't go back it hurts too much

Great video .. I got my steam drivers ticket on the Bundy Fowler at Woodford back in 1991 :)

Just a pity Woodford has not had even one working steamer for 6 or more years. I hope you can use your steam ticket elsewhere.

@@tressteleg1 I moved back north in 1993 ... did a season at Plane Creek Mill on the locos, then became a laboratory chemist at Proserpine Mill. I still am a member of ANGRMS (Woodford) and work is progressing to get a steam loco back in service (tho I am too far away). btw... I visited the Bundaberg Botanical Gardens recently, and the locals have done an excellent job restoring and also extending track etc after the major floods. As I understand, Bundy Fowler 0-4-2T Nipper operates every Sunday at present.

Thanks for that update. You have had an interesting career in the cane industry already. I was also a member quite some years ago but gave up as I could see management stuck in old ways and would never go forwards. I am more or less kept up to date by Mark G, son of Bob G so I get to hear what is going on. I won’t say any more here as it may not be too flattering. As for the railway in the Bundaberg Botanical Gardens, I was disappointed to hear of them getting flooded. While steam locos are not too badly affected by flood waters, I wondered just how badly the diesels were affected, particularly the electrical side of things. Anyway I hope they have got things fixed up and it’s good to hear of track expansion. I did you get video coverage of all cane railways three years ago, and Proserpine was one mill where I did get a lot of good scenes. Too bad I did not know you then. Maybe you have seen some of those videos.

@@tressteleg1 Actually, it was Bob G who signed me up to ANGRMS 40 plus years ago and I was a very regular volunteer at Woodford (and Hon Secretary for 6 years). There is now a big new 3 road loco shed, so that is progress. I have recently retired, so now have the opportunity to travel a bit, just wish I could have been a Melbourne tram driver at some stage.... lol.... Thanks for your videos ... always enjoyable.
@tressteleg1
@tressteleg1 5 лет назад
Actually Mark G remembers you and thought that you might be retired by now. I have not heard from Bob G. I’m pleased that the opportunity arose for me to drive Melbourne trams, but unfortunately rail management in any form is not being run by very nice people these days. It’s nice that you enjoy my videos, but vintage Aussie subjects have just about run out.

Lucky you! I sort-of knew one regular driver of Coolum. I think his name may have been Dave. He was a bit browned off with the job. Manage,ent may have had similar sentiments of him. Any ideas?

@@tressteleg1 Correct. Was at the December Tramfest and my group shared their stand. They have raised a good bit of money already and I think they said that tenders had already been called for the tram. Getting it all the way to the showground is going to be a challenge now. But not impossible.

This is the only video that I’ve seen the twins being used
@tressteleg1
@tressteleg1 8 месяцев назад
In normal operation, they never ran alone. This was because a normal loco was too heavy for the track on one or 2 lines, so the twins split the load over a greater length of track. I believe that post Nambour, they went separate ways.

I should have included the link to my Queensland cane train videos which has a couple more Nambour videos. It may even include the twins on one of the lines. I forget now. Sugar Cane Railways Qld Australia ru-vid.com/group/PLLtOIHp49XND6bcwLgbtsBFKmh_DsS_yl
