As a musician I can appreciate the incredible versatile band on this show. Not easy to be able to interpret all those different tunes from different eras
I met Elena - she's super nice. She went to college with my parents and I went to college with her nephew. She paid for college with her winnings from this show.
I watched Name that tune back in 1984 when I was 8 years old and $100,000 was a whole a lot more money than it is today and could pay for four years of college back in the 1980's.
The $100K in the 70s Name that Tune was all cash, but paid out $10K a year for 10 years, so the contestants in this SUper tournament by this point had won between $40K-$90K of the $100K(the $100K Name that Tune was in syndication from 1976-81, the first two years of the 70s syndicated Name that Tune didn't have a $100K top prize)
This was the first $100,000 giveaway I watched on Name That Tune when the late Jim Lange says " You done it Elena you won you've won a a hundred thousand dollars cash and prizes." The balloons and fireworks sound effects I almost crying.
If they did that show today, the host (in this case, Matt Iseman) would say “Time is up and the game is over! (Contestant’s name), YOU’VE DONE IT!!!!!!!!!!! YOU’VE DONE IT!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU’VE DONE IT!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU JUST WON $1,000,000 IN 💵 AND PRIZES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU HAVE WON IT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” and the 💥 would go off and all the 🎈 and 🎊 would come down and the 14-piece band would play some fanfare 🎵 for the $1,000,000 champion!!!!!!!!!
19:47-20:03, “Later today, join Popeye, Olive Oyl and Bluto for hilarious high-seas excitement on The All-New Popeye Show, then it’s go-go gadget time with Inspector Gadget on FAM TV. Now stay tuned for Monty Hall and Let’s Make a Deal next on The Family Channel!”-Ross Bagley.
What they *didn't* tell you is that shortly after this aired, the show went completely bankrupt! A Grand Piano, a stereo system and projection TV, a Caribbean cruise, A time share condo for life in Palm Springs, watches, a hot tub, an emerald necklace, $10,000 in cash, a brand new Pontiac Fiero ~~ and she did it *twice*. My GOD
She won a $100K cash annuity in the 70s version, as the $100K prize in that version was paid $10K a year for 10 years. It would have been as late as 1989 or 1990 for the winners on the 70s version to have gotten the full $100K
No, actually, it was $100,000 worth of cash and prizes. It included: A Schafer & Sons Grand Piano A Hitachi Home Entertainment Center A Caribbean Cruise from Costa Cruises A permanent annual one-week vacation in his/hers timeshare condo at the Las Brisas Resort (now the Best Western Plus Las Brisas Hotel, I believe) in Palm Springs A pair of His/hers watches from Jules Jurgensen An entertainment center from Polynesian Spas *plus* A 14-karat gold Emerald necklace $10,000 in cold, hard cash *and...* a then-new 1984 Pontiac Fiero 2M4 sports car. That was the prize package the 1984-85 short-lived revival of Name That Tune was offering in the Tournaments.
I remember seeing Eric's win on the Kennedy Name That Tune from 1978. He was on fire on that day but what on earth happened here? He was doing well during the first two games but Elena slowly but surely began firing back. Does anyone remember when Elena won on the Kennedy NTT?
I’d prefer the same format as the 1984 version (Melody Roulette, Tune Topics, Bid-A-Note and Golden Medley Showdown, but with a 64-person tournament (with prizes awarded after every game instead of points and cash awards of $10,000 in the first round and in the Round of 32, $25,000 in the Round of 16, $50,000 in the quarterfinals, $100,000 in the semifinals and the grand prize of $1,000,000 in the finals), Matt Iseman as host, Todd Newton as announcer and Lacey Sturm as conductor of the 14-piece band (three trumpeters, three trombone players, three woodwind players, one pianist/keyboardist/synthesizer player/organist, two guitarists (one electric, one electric and acoustic), one bass guitarist and one drummer)! In addition, the opening spiel would go like this: “From Hollywood, the musical capital of the world, 64 contestants will do battle, but only one of them will win the biggest grand prize in television history: $1,000,000 in cash and prizes... ON THE ALL-NEW $1,000,000 NAME... THAT... TUNE!!!!!!!!! And now, here’s our musical maestro... MATT ISEMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
NTT and Face the Music also aired back to back in reruns on CBN in the 80's and then it returned to the same network which was later renamed The Family Channel from 1993-1995
MBK1997, you forgot to mention that the late John Harlan's opening line was: "Today, Elena Cervantes will be going against Eric Kaplan, a medical 👨⚕️, and ☝️ of them will become a Super Champion and win another $100,000 in 💰 and prizes on The New $100,000 Name That Tune! And now, the ⭐️ of Name That Tune, Jim Lange!"
Tonight, One of These Two Contestants, ELENA CERVANTES, or ERIC KAPLAN, Will Go Home with $100,000 in Cash and Prizes, on The NEW $100,000 NAME THAT TUNE... Featuring Tommy Oliver and the NAME THAT TUNE Orchestra! And Now, The Star of NAME THAT TUNE, Jim Lange!
I just hope that there’s more $100,000 finals from the Lange version of NTT-which I used to watch every night at 🕢 on WAVE 3 right after NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw-with prize plugs intact, all from the original WAVE 3 airings!
correct me if im wrong but it was not always produced by Sandy Frank right ,and is this the same person who produced the 1978 cartoon Battle of the Planets .
Name That Tune was original created by Harry and Roberta Salter, and from 1974-81, was produced by Ralph Edwards and distributed by Sandy Frank Entertainment, the same company that gave us Battle of the Planets and Face the Music (which, during its time in reruns on CBN, went head-to-head against Danger Mouse reruns on Nickelodeon at the same time slot: 4:30pm, way before the Monday Night Wars between USA’s WWE Monday Night RAW/RAW is WAR (which later moved to TNN for its final 6 months of the war) and TNT’s WCW Monday Nitro).
@@danalong1237 The same Ralph Edwards who created and hosted "This is Your Life", the reality documentary/retrospective celebrity series, and who also created The People's Court and Superior Court as well.

How come the 1984-85 Name That Tune almost always has the SAME prizes for their 100K giveaway such as grand piano, vacations, diamond emerald, additional $10,000 and new car?
How come in Melody Roulette in this version, only the winner gets to keep the money instead of both contestants keeping their money, like on the Kennedy version?
This show was a five a week version, when the 70s syndicated version was weekly. Budget concerns I guess. The values on the Kennedy wheel were as high as $1K, plus they had two double spaces and a car(save for the 1980-81 season, where the car was replaced with a prize space)
Before it was abc family, it was CBN and later The Family Channel NTT aired in reruns on CBN and then, it rerun on USA and then, it returned to CBN when it became The Family Channel from 1993-1995
This show aired in first-run on NBC affiliate WAVE 3 in Louisville (owned by Gray Television since 2018) every weeknight at 🕢 right after NBC Nightly News W/Tom Brokaw.
I looked at the web page and it is him. I wonder what Elena is up to these days ? Someone posted below in the comments that she went to college with their parents.
Cervantes is her last name. This aired on USA between 9/11/1989-9/13/1991, as when Lange NTT first bowed on USA on 1/2/89, it was followed by Face the Music through 9/8/1989. Lange NTT left USA on 9/13/91.
Between Novmeber 1989-Sep 7 1990 is the airdate here. NTT bowed on USA 1/2/89, and would have been into its second cycle by around Sep 1989 so I'm estimating a Spring 1990 USA airdate here.
Not to mention, USA was the place for Game Shows and Cartoon Express before it became the Law & Order Network and RAW was good, but now, it STINKS, especially when you got Michael Cole on Commentary
I'm surprised that Tom Kennedy wasn't asked to host this version. Kennedy was hosting "Body Language" on CBS, but this show was syndicated. He could have hosted this show also.
GSN was good in the beginning. Now they have too much of their own content that sucks. The only original that had any success was Lingo under Chuck Woolery. We at least have BUZZR to air the shows GSN cannot or will not.
CBN & USA aired reruns of NTT and another Jim Lange hosted Game Show-The Barry & Enright Cult Favorite Bullseye and Face the Music also aired back to back on CBN, USA and CBN's Family Channel (before it became Fox Family and now abc family)
And both FTM and the Lange version of NTT aired every weeknight at 7:30pm on WAVE 3 in Louisville, although FTM aired on WHAS for its first season and for its entire run on Lexington's ABC affiliate WTVQ. Does anyone have the promos for FTM on WHAS, WAVE and WTVQ and the promos for the Lange version of NTT on WAVE?
@@danalong1237 Fee plugs were edited out of Family Channel reruns because they had to make space for the Trivial Pursuit etc. interactive playbreaks. Editing those out and the 90 seconds of $100K prize package plugs gave them about two and a half extra minutes. Fee plugs were edited out of Face the Music reruns and Crosswits 1986 reruns,, and with LMAD reruns, they edited out parts of deals(sometimes on 70s and 80s syndicated LMADs, if the Big Deal was won, they only showed the two doors that were won, and those were edits done by Hatos-Hall staff at the time they aired(
327 728 I think she won on a former version of this show from the 1970s. I'm not sure though, I was only born in 84, and remember this series only in reruns.
@@blindsportslover I was also born in 84, and, yes, I remember this show in reruns too. We used to watch this (and 1,000,000 Dollar-Chance of a Lifetime) on the tv during weekends in the Philippines.
