Part of why I love One Piece is that, despite it being incredibly cheesy and campy, it actually leans into it with full sincerity. And that sincerity is also what makes Luffy as a character so enjoyable and endearing and not just obnoxious and annoying.
Yeah. But its WAY harder to sell this in a live action compared to an anime. It absolutely defies logic that they managed to pull off One Piece LA. I would NEVER have believed it possible, but its absolutely fantastic.
This is why i think luffy works a million times better than your average "dumb shonen mc" it is because luffy and in general the tone of the story is not pretencious. Luffy is an idiot but he is pure and sincere. It makes him so lovable and funny and also making the bad ass scenes a million times better
Zeff was a Pirate. He was a Chef. Stranded, he had to make a decision: Keep his legs and remain a pirate. Keep his hands and remain a chef. His love for cooking outweighed his love for Piracy. Such an interesting story. Love it.
As a Sanji fan, I always thought it was quite interesting how similar Sanji is to Luffy (having both their father figures lose a limb for them & the belief in something intangible). I quite like the idea that, while Zoro embodies the Pirate King part of Luffy's dream, that requires strength & ambition, Sanji embodies the other part, that requires a different type of strength - continuing to believe in something ethereal, despite many people challenging your dream telling you to give it up.
While this isn't entirely wrong, the last part of your comment is still something embodied by Zoro rather than Sanji. Because Sanji is the one who talked about giving up the dream and survive if you are up against someone like Mihawk. In terms of believing in a dream and pursuing it no matter what, no matter who tells you it's impossible, no matter who tells you to give it up, Zoro is much closer to Luffy than Sanji is. Because Luffy and Zoro are the same in that regard, whereas there are things worth giving up (pursuing) your dream to Sanji. So in any characteristic you mentioned, Zoro is much closer to Luffy than Sanji is (and that's the case overall). The main parallel you named - both had the person they look up to and admire sacrifice a limb for them, and both dreamt of something no one knew for sure even existed. In fact I'd say Sanji is someone who partly embodies characteristics from Luffy/Zoro and partly from other crew members - other goals, other jobs, more "human"
The Left and Right wings of the Pirate King are characters more specialized in either the hard duty and weight of adulthood or the wonder, empathy, and optimism of childhood. That's just the beginning of how they compliment and foil Luffy at the same time
The actor for young Sanji is the main character in the *Sweeth Tooth* series. He's the best child actor in One Piece so far. Zeff & Sanji's past was tragic, but Zeff managed to raise Sanji well.. He taught him how to fight & cook better. Zeff may not be Sanji's father, but he's surely a good guardian & teacher.
LA Sanji way more jacked than real Sanji. Taz is a fucking legend. Trained hours upon hours for a couple of years to be able to do justice to Sanji's fighting style and he took sessions as an actual chef. As in, he actually learnt cooking skills (and according to the other cast members his cooking did improve) rather than just rehearsing the movements. The cast overall is so freaking good. Inaki Godoy just is Luffy, Emily Rudd I didn't even recognise at first even though she's been a celebrity crush of mine for a while (and a massive One Piece fan), Mackenyu is a HUGE One Piece fan and actually studied swordsmanship even before. When asked "Which move of scene X was the most difficult", he replied with "none of them were difficult". Usopp's actor (the name escaped me) did really well getting the character across, too!
The kicking traning part I understand but why the chef classes lol might as well just use that time to enhance his acting perfomance, not that it was awful, but not that awesome
@@blinkasto182 I think his acting is really good. He comes across as one of the more credible characters, I felt. With some of the least amount of hamming it up.
@@blinkasto182his acting was so damn good ...and chef classes were important coz the character he was gonna play is a...chef...that's why it's very cool of him!
I love seeing peoples' reactions to this, but the funniest is their reaction to Sanji with no shirt. The thirst is always very sudden and very apparent. XD
I think you'd be surprised. If they do Skypeia (I hope they do, but it feels like the easiest to skip of all major arcs) that could easily be season3 since I think they could do the Arabasta saga in season2.
@@MikeHesk742 without saying too much, it's one of the most important arcs of the entire series considering recent developments...though I also never got that whole skip-Skypiea notion even before alladat
@@MikeHesk742 Also from what the execs of the production studio & Matt have said it seems most likely that almost each season will adopt a saga (pre-ts)/sub-saga (post-ts)
also his dream changed. He took the treasure he had on that island and built his restaurant so that sailors would always have a place where they could find food no mater what.
@@IamGrimalkin idk . His dream was different he didn’t wanna be the king of pirates he just wanted to find the all blue . Unless the all blue is at laughtale then he was fucked forsure
Hey guys I just wanted to tell you that this is the manga version of sanji and zeff's backstory in the anime the studio changed it because it was too dark for the younger audiences of 13-17 year olds Hope that helped
I love that y'all has an emotional reaction to Sanji and Zeff's backstory and the tearful departure of Sanji leaving the Baratie with Luffy and his crew. Reacting to the anime is up to y'all. I'm just glad this version of One Piece exists so everyone can experience it.
you were wondering how zeff and sanji got off that rock; the boat sanji was shouting at during the storm makes another pass by that area and checks it out, as someone on the ship did hear the yelling, but ignored it at the time. they decided to check it out afterwards when the weather was more favourable
I think this might’ve been my favorite episode of the season. I loved all the emotional moments, but I almost love the reactions to Sanji after he saves Luffy. Guys and gals all seem to react the exact same that I’ve seen, and it’s so funny.
The cast are all really good friends, which explains their chemistry. Sanji's actor repeatedly had them up at his house cooking for them to test out recipes. Weirdly enough, Sanji in the manga isn't actually that buff. He's more kind of wiry.
The guy Sanji fed that was drifting for weeks and was dying of starvation. He was from the crew Mihawk killed. That wasn´t some random guy. In the manga and anime he actually has MUCH more of an impact after Mihawk´s introduction. But I am not gonna spoil anything. They cut a lot of meat of the bones to save time. It is interesting watching people with no OP knowladge love it so much. MAkes me happy. It was my second mangathat I ever collected. Almost 30 years ago soon. Makes me so happy that people love something from my past.
If you guys feel sad after this season is done, don’t worry you have 1000+ episodes just waiting for you ☺️ and honestly guys, just watch it on your own. Don’t feel pressured to make reactions because the constraints are understandable, and I don’t think anyone wants to prevent you from experiencing it just because it’s not feasible to make reactions. You could always do arc discussion videos or other one piece videos to share your thoughts instead
They dynamic between the crew members and their dreams is so interesting! It doesn't fully come through in the LA because parts have been left out, but when you think about it, everyone is a dream. But how much they value that dream and how much they are willing to sacrifice for it is a different story. If I remember correctly, Sanji was present for Zoro vs Mihawk in the anime, and he said or thought something amongst the lines of "You idiot! Throw that dream away in order to live" In short, Luffy and Zoro are willing to die for their dreams, they are willing to die trying, but they would never, ever give up pursuing them. Pursuing their dreams is the very essence of their being. Sanji was never able to let go of his dream of finding All Blue, but as we saw in that scene, he wasn't willing to die for it. Even moreso, he felt so indebted to Zeff that he never tried to pursue it until the Strawhats come and Zeff essentially told him to go follow his dream. So his dream is a big part of him, but it's not his very essence and there are bigger things than his dream to him. Usopp always told stories that were based on his dream of becoming a brave warrior of the sea, but he never recognised it or pursued it, really. Part of that was his affection for Kaya, part of it was making excuses. The fear of failure is what largely kept him away from it.
The tense part of the anime is how Young Sanji loses weight while stuck on that island. When I was watching, I was thinking all the time: "imagine if Netflix makes a kid actor loses lots of weight just to have that scene" haha.
They portrayed the scene beautifully. I've only seen a few people complain about the young Sanji kid not being boney by day 70, but I'm glad they didn't expect a kid to really malnourish for accuracy. His acting was excellent, perhaps the best out of the child actors. Though I still respect the choreography between young Zoro and Kuina. It was impressive.
That pirate whose whole crew died was Gin. He was part of Don Krieg's crew (the purple-haired Pirate with the shoulder cannon). We're watching Gin's crew get wiped out when Mihawk is introduced.
26:43 Sanji wants to find it but he doesn't want to leave Zeff because till now Zeff is one of only a handful of people (if that) who's ever actually cared about him. And because he owes Zeff so much he doesn't want to leave him on his own.
Honestly loving your journey so far, a fresh take is so nice to see and y'all perfectly on point with intended vibes and enjoying the campy where it's supposed to and actually feeling the feels during those. It's good to see this as a fan of the manga
I love Sanji's goodbye in live action. But i still love more more more Sanji's goodbye in anime or manga. There is one difference that stands out the most. In live action, Sanji is on top of Merry and Zeff is below watching him leave when they say goodbye. But in the anime or manga, Sanji is lower than Zeff, with his feet and head touching the ground just to thank Zeff for saving him.😭 I think that scene is one of the saddest scenes in the East Blue Saga of One Piece.🥲
@@CeltyST96 yeah, right?!😄 So, thats why : To people who want to know how good One Piece is, I suggest don't just watch this live action, at least you should try to following the anime and then manga, cover story and SBS🤣
As much as i like that scene in the manga, i think it would come off as overacting in a live action. If anything i'm disappointed by the lack of the manga storyline with Gin, his interactions with Sanji were so good and showed so much more of Sanji's character.
How they got off the rock (you can see it in the manga): The ship that Sanji saw on day 25. One guy actually heard him, but didn't quite believe his ears (hearing a kid screaming in the storm at sea? cant be!) On their trip back they checked it out, though.
oregano is for savages is a live original line and it is absolutely great. its little stuff like that which really shines for the anime and manga one piece nerds like myself
General note, the Navy is the organization, the Marines are the members of that organization. In practice, you can use them basically interchangeably in One Piece. So don't stress it. ✌️
Ngl I been refreshing YT way too much waiting for this 🤣🤣 They don't emphasize it much in the Live Action here but Sanji and all the chefs at Baratie are decent fighters because they always have to kick rowdy pirates out and shit, to the point that it's kind of a spectacle and some people dine there just to see the chefs fight. Sanji is a good fighter and also chooses not to fight with his hands because he doesn't want to damage them. They are reserved for cooking 😁
This flashback is one of the best in my opinion. But I have one complaint, in the manga/anime when Sanji sees the chefs eating the leftovers from their customers, Sanji got angry and said it was disgusting and then threw the leftover food in the trash. Then when he was trapped on the island with Zeff, when he saw the rotting bread (we can see this scene in Live Action) he cried, because he remembered what he did when he was on the passenger ship. Overall the flashback was pretty good, but if they hadn't cut that part, I think this flashback would have hit harder 🤧😭
If you want to get into the One Piece anime there is something called One Pace, which condenses the anime down to cut out filler and padding. One of the reasons One Piece is so long is because of padding. Rather than do full on filler arcs it just extends the hell out downtime in episodes to fill run time. It would be far more feasible to do.
It's normal to think that Luffy is a carefree easy going guy but he's actually very intuitive and also he always observe people to see if they're good or not. he rarely just invites people to join him on a whim
27:44 - Not really a spoiler, since you wont find out until season 10. But in Sanji's case it makes perfect sense for him to be buff, to be good at fighting, and to be surprised anyone would willingly help a stranger, given the OTHER half of his backstory, which isn't revealed until much MUCH later from now.
Luffy thinking that Zoro likes rice balls seems like a throw-away line, but it's actually an inside joke for the fans. Zoro's three-blade attack is called Oni Giri, meaning Demon Cut, which sounds identical to onigiri, meaning rice balls.
You ladies could probably cram 3 anime episodes each hour and edit it together like you do here on this 1 hour per episode in the Live action. The anime is soo good. Having been a Anime fan since the mid 90s . . . its my fave.
Looking at new fans reactions of sanji and zeff's farewell confirms it for me. A lot of fans said that the goodbye didn't quite hit as hard as the anime but i think it's just they were expecting it to be exactly like the manga. But seeing all new fans tearing makes me realize it is just because they expected it to be exactly like the original. With all the changes they made i was expecting to see something different and let me tell you, it still hit as hard as the first time.
Zeff's epithet used to be Red Leg Zeff because his boots would always be covered in the blood of his enemies (thats what we saw on his boots during Sanji's flashback) and he taught Sanji to fight using only his legs and Sanji is now known as Black Leg Sanji.
So the first time I saw that rock that Zeff and Sanji get stranded on I thought... How did they get stranded THERE? But then I realized even in our own Ocean it COULD happen on a rock like that. With the Crazy Waves and Swells that happens when the sea was more wild it could push things and debris and even people or animals up there. More likely though that even if you survived getting up there you'd be more beat up then they are but HEY it's anime/fantasy.
love this episode 👏… now i have a little concern Sam, in the last videos reactions i watched you with maybe a little issue with your left eye 🤔, please take care 🙏🏼. love you girls, my favorite YT channel 💪🤗
It's not like you would have to hire a new editor for one piece. Just treat it like every other anime you do on your channel, then it will just take 6 years until you're caught up, which is perfect, one piece shouldn't be rushed
I think you guys missed that arlong was about to kill him by mauling him. Instead she suggested he throw luffy in the water, you can be saved from drowning not so much if your necks half gone
If you wanted to watch the anime but are worried about the amount of episodes you could always do one video per story arc like the romance dawn arc is the first 7 episodes, the orange town arc is the next 14 chapters. Some arcs can be a bit lengthy tho so they might need a breakdown.
Honestly, someone should do a PSA around the entire One Piece world, "if you ever run into a pirate with a straw hat, give him some food and he will move mountains for you!" 😂😂😂
