I saw people from western media calling out the boys for not directly addressing the dts and I was like???? The dude said bts were afraid to confront and upset their fans and I'm like "huh no? they have confronted fans before, if you had bothered to research maybe you'd know". He even admitted western celebs also don't do it, then why holding bts to a different standard? Like besides the fact that they can't babysit millions around the world (and honestly if someone needs a celeb to tell them that dts are wrong... well they're clearly not well and need professionnel support), people like that like attention whether it's bad or good and it's very dangerous for celebs to give them that kind of acknowledgement. It's the same principle for trolls, antis and sasaengs (I've seen one say they feel powerful by knowing they caused their target to feel scared or angry), same for media that writes horrible stuff about the boys just to get the rage clicks. Getting acknowledgement is more likely to enable them than anything else. Although he shouldn't have gotten them in the first place, the way JC talked about the dts rubbed me the wrong way. I used to be a book reviewer so I pay attention to wording a lot and it felt to me like he low-key used that to victimize himself like "well yes I said this, but look what people did to me was A LOT worse right?", bc like you said, he didn't actually apologize (and he was silent for two whole months on the subject) or seemed to get why people were that upset, even tho plenty of reasonable army were respectfully explaining it back them. This happens way too often, people provoke us, we get upset and tell them exactly why, then they focus only on the toxic ones while ignoring the level-headed ones, then lump us all together and go "oh army attacked me". Now bc of what JC said people (including some armys) are basically equating the people that got upset to the people sending dts and that's really messed up. I got upset bc he's known us for years and still chose to use his platform to perpetuate a harmful and misogynistic stereotype that is often used to belittle and dismiss us and the boys - all that for a cheap joke - and still I never threatened anyone in my life. BTS chose not to burn that bridge with him (and with ben winston) and I'm okay with it and absolutely respect their decision, but in regards to JC himself all I have left is a bad taste in my mouth. If people didn't feel offended by what he did, I'm fine with them too, as long as they don't go around vilanizing the ones that did (and unfortunately I've seen a lot of that). I'm glad it got addressed tho so we can move on (I'm sure they agreed beforehand backstage that the issue would be approached, but regardless). And Namjoon was such a king in the way he directed that convo. A diplomatic master honestly. He basically got a public apology from JC without the man actually apologizing. I love his brain so much.

I so agree with you he I don't think that he used BTS for clout it and I noticed in the interview he was legit nervous talking about the issue if you notice he was really nervous explaining himself like when he says " I hope you understand" notice his voice was shaking he don't want to loose BTS as a friend and in the snippet of Crosswalk sketch, he was massaging jimin's shoulder.....Some army's really took it other way round.

I agree but I think the point that namjoon is trying to make is that you cannot judge the army fandom by the minority group by the minority portion of the fandom and he has realised that the majority part of the fandom is good is and not toxic, not people who want to hurt them and that is the narrative he is trying to push. A lot of interviewers, and some army's themselves and just generally people in the public want to push the narrative that army is comprised of these toxics minority people and namjoon pushes the narrative that they the fandom is not.

Like RM said, ARMY has never hurt them... When a fan becomes toxic or a sasaeng, personally, I believe they cannot be considered ARMY anymore.. Because true ARMY (rather, true fans in any fandom) will always respect the artist and the artist's privacy....

He won't apologize because he refuses to understand what the actual issue is. His joke was rooted in xenophobia and a particular kind of misogyny that is aimed at teenage girls and femmes. I'm a middle-aged, non-binary army and I wasn't offended to be associated with teenage girls, I was offended on behalf of them. I care a lot less about people being surprised that I love BTS and kpop in general than I do about how these kinds of jokes consistently reduce young women and femmes to some two-dimensional stereotype that's been hounding us since the Beetles.
