Anyone else amazed at how good the Fender drive pedal sounded - its one of the cheapest, most plastic looking drive pedals you can buy, but the Fender guy makes it sound amazing!! Goes to show.... its all in the fingers ;)

Functionally it may be a good pedal, it is unfair to assume its cheap due to the external aesthetics.

Alan made a great point Fender is known for its single coil pickups yet they have a more versatile and awesome line/history of humbuckers 2nd to none- Atomic, Dragster, Enforcer, Blacktop, Vintage Twin (which by no coincidence was a prelude to the Shawbucker and is also very "musical"), and the 'Wide-Range" also man those could be a line of aftermarket PUP's!!!

I have a 1990s version Deville. As soon as I got it ( 10 years ago for $300 ) I bought some old 80s Celestion the V70s off eBay made in the UK, just like what’s it in that amp. I added a volume knob on my paddleboard and crank up the amp until it breaks up. (8 or 9 ) I turn the volume knob on the paddleboard down and I still get that crunch but much lower levels. I have a compressor and overdrive a delay noise reduction pedal. The compression to make up for the loss of volume and it sounds amazing. My Strat quacks all day.

I do own standard shawbucker strat. The tone of the shawbucker its absolutely fantastic fell in love immediately There's one down side of it tho. Shawbucker cannot handle a good distortion. Talking about massive microphonic feedback. Add Cry baby on the top of that good gig volume on the amp and the squeal is unbearable. I've tried noise gates etc. Nothing helped and I did have to wax pot mine. The tone didn't get affected at all and the microphonic feedback is forever gone. Keeping Shawbucker unpotted doesn't make this pickup versatile at all. I really don't know how they tested it. As the captain mention before that good versatile humbuckers nowadays are usually potted and he's absolutely right about that.

Hey, i'm planning on buying a shawbucker standard myself, but I wonder how the humbucker sounds on high gain settings. I would like to play some early 80ties hardrock and metal.... What's your opinion on that? Thanks for helping me!

Robin Giesen It's GREAT for high gain! I play it through a Jim Root Orange Head and cabinet, when I'm playing Metal. The guitar is very versatile, but I believe it absolutely dominates in high gain settings. That Shawbucker is an absolute monster. And the Customshop Fat 50's compliment it so well. I also play Blues/Classic rock with it as well.(Tho I usually turn to one of my Gibson's for that) Anyhow, I can't say enough good things. You'l love it!

Thanks man. That really was helpful! I'm gonna try one first on a Marshall amp. I got the dsl100 myself and using a gibson les paul right now, so I can compare.

I just purchased this amp, the one thing that you can not tell from all the reviews,is how much of a bass and reverb monster this amp is. But turn the bass almost off and keep the reverb down .turn the treb. ,mid. and pres to 10 and this amp sings. I don't agree it takes just any pedal as I have a lot of OD and distortion pedals. Just like any amp , it make take some experimenting to find the tone in your head...

Is this amp too loud for home use? Some say it is, and others say it sound great at low volumes also. Whats your take?

Yes it is to loud and its heavy also........ it started off great and then it blew up on me. I guess I caught a lemon but I wasnt getting another due to my similar experience with the hot rod series. I returned the amp and replaced it with a supersonic 22 and so far its a better amp. I hope this helps !

Am I the only one who noticed during the whole amp demo there is an uninterrupted background hum despite they are using a clean sound??? I noticed immediately because it's the same sound my super-sonic 22 does when idle (especially what the reverb is active). Are all fender amps noisy like that???

Hey just wondering what people would recommend, the Landau Deville or Vox ac30c2? I've saved up enough money for one or the other and I've tried the ac30 (which I really like) but haven't tried the Landau Deville. Would appreciate any feedback or opinions!

Great demo and interview thanks Lee and Chris one question for many years we have been told and from Lee and Rob they must be potted and now we are told it does not matter I personally would want them potted what do you and Chris think, many thanks

I'm not an expert on this but apparently potting a pickup up is only really necessary if you have either a bad fitting pickup cover or loosely wound copper winding. So its basically a problem on old hand would pickups, but not really a problem on modern pickups at all - so yes, potting a modern pickup (especially one with no cover!) is a bit of a waste of time.

what's up with the blues jrs' blowing up.I bought one 3 months ago and it has already blown up. I also got a hot rod deluxe and i am hearing that there are components to close to the board and over heating and burning the board and that the can capacitors are cheap and that they start leaking. I am afraid to play my hot rod. Fender-you need to get your act together. All over the internet i am seeing people having trouble with these amps. I am probably finished with fender amps. Why can you not make amps like the old ones that last 50 yrs. without having to pawn your house to get one. If everyone will quit paying these crazy prices these companies would have to come down on the price. I know a lot of people don't like it when i post these things,but i don't have enough money to keep getting ripped off.

fender-also, quit mounting the tubes upside down in your amps. I had rather have a single channel amp with no bells and whistles if they are going to tear up all the time. You are forcing people like me back to solid state amps or older amps that are somewhat built right.

I love your videos and rob's but someone needs to be honest about all of this over-priced music gear. I don't think anyone has the balls to step up and call these companies out. It would be different if the gear would hold up. yea-the high priced stuff that the pros can afford is better but the little guy cannot afford it.

A shame it was all lies on the Guitar part. The Shawbucker is trash. Sounds like a whimpy single coil with a bit extra under the hood and cant handle high volume at all without squealing like some sort of sick pig. Its a disgusting sound and what a shame to end the HSS Standard pedigree on. Granted its not potted and this is a Strat, trying to hold onto that sound. But if you are going to spec H bloody SS why on earth would you ever want such a whimpy output pickup? Immediately binned the shaw - straight into Seymour PG. Now that actually does have some grunt. Not this pitiful excuse. If you were wondering - go SSS if you 'have' to go pro right now. Avoid this failure at all costs. It sounds smothered, muddy and Shaw has obviously become senile and cant hear properly. Mid range pick up my ass. Replace them soon as.
