கி.பி. ஏழாம் நூற்றாண்டில், சீர்காழி என்னும் ஊரில் பிறந்தார். இவரது தந்தையார் சிவபாதவிருதயர். தாயார் பகவதி அம்மையார். இவர் மூன்று வயது குழந்தையாக இருந்தபோது, தந்தையாருடன் கோயிலுக்குச் சென்றதாகவும், அங்கே குழந்தையைக் கரையில் அமரவிட்டுக் குளிக்கச் சென்ற தந்தையார், சிறிது நேரம் நீருள் மூழ்கியிருந்த சமயம், தந்தையைக் காணாத குழந்தை, அம்மை அப்பா என்று கூவி அழுததாகவும்,அப்போது உமாதேவியார், சிவபெருமானுடன் இவர் முன் காட்சி கொடுத்து ஞானப்பாலூட்டியதாகவும் சொல்லப்படுகிறது.
அது குறித்துக் கோயிலிலுள்ள இறைவனைச் சுட்டிக்காட்டித் தோடுடைய செவியன்... என்று தொடங்கும் தேவாரத்தைப் பாடினார் என்றும் சொல்லப்படுகிறது. திருஞான சம்பந்தரின் வரலாற்றைப் பெரிய புராணத்தில் 1256 பாடல்களால் சேக்கிழார் சுவாமிகள் அழகுற விரித்துரைத்துள்ளார் .
Devaram - Vol-1 To 77 (Sambandhar) is a collection of hymns rendered by Dharmapuram P.Swaminathan in his unique style and is a reverential endeavour to offer a morsel of this exquisite and glorious culturally influential masterpiece to the world.
Thevarams are devotional hymns sung in praise of Shiva by the 3 Nayanmars: Sambandar, Thirunavukkarasar and Sundarar. Rendered in an ancient musical style that precedes most Indian classical music systems, these songs give us an insight into the wave of bhakti that swept across southern India during the 7th Century.
Thirugnana Sambandhar started reciting hymns on the Glory of Lord Shiva from his Childhood itself. One day in his childhood when he was crying in the bank of the pond in the Sirkazhi temple, Lord Shiva appeared with Parvathi Devi on the Holy Bull. Parvathi Devi gave the gnana milk to the child Thirugnana Sambandhar. When his father came after finishing his bath in the pond, he got angry with the child and asked him "Who gave you the milk?". Then Sri Thirugnana Sambandhar recited this hymn showing the God to his father. This is his first hymn and this is the first thiruppathikam in Panniru Thirumurai
