Shel C Thanks! I am slowly but surely overhauling my studio area to make it actually function for me better (hopefully). But once that's all sorted, perhaps I'll have a better idea as to how much stuff I really should (and shouldn't) have on hand. Small spaces make a person choosier. In other words, I am keeping things simple for now but will try new things hopefully soon. ;)

Thank you Dorothy :) I am Amazon's best customer in southern Arizona lol. For collage work I like the light weight papers. Printer paper or baking paper or even tissue, serviettes, or newsprint. I am glad you are going to give gelli printing a go..it is so fun and hard to stop once you start lol.

Hi Kate :) What you are doing with putting paper in between pages is correct..but ultimately stuff happens. If I have a completed work on the other side I take more care and wipe it off if I get a spot. But if it is blank I will just gesso it anyway. Gesso is very useful for more then just covering up..it also seals and preps a page making you lose less paint to seepage. My ICADs are getting backed with a black cardstock anyway so I don't worry about them. Mixed media is messy and layered and that is just how it is :) Be free with it! Oh, if your seeping is happening through the spine of your journal, you can put down masking or painters tape into the crease, then gesso, then do you page on that surface.

Thanks Shel C for taking the time to answer my question. It is the perfectionist in me that wants a nice pristine page to work on and nothing getting on completed work. Maybe I should seal my completed work so it is easier to remove wet media that might get on it. Probably another thing I could do is tape down the paper between pages, part of my problem is they will sometimes slide around while I'm applying wet medium. If there is already paint on the paper then it will smear onto the underside of my page. I like the idea of using black cardstock on the back of the ICADs. I'll have to give that a try. Otherwise, I'll be more careful with my edges especially on a page that has a completed side. I do some layering, probably not as much as most mixed media artists, mostly because I'm learning the process of mixing paint colors and applying them many different ways and enjoying the unexpected results. I don't have much collage material right now, so any collaging I do is minimal. I hope to get to a level like you did with the Chartreuse Octopus, however, I need to learn to not throw so many things away and start seeing the creative possibilities of things most people consider trash. Thanks so much for creating and sharing your videos. They help someone like me immensely with learning different techniques.
