Hey! Thx for the videos, really helpful. I'm waiting for my delivery! Tip: before you out your water in the Nanovessel, leave some boiling water in there for a few minutes, then throw it away and refil with more boiling water. You lose too much heat first time around, so if you do that, you'll get a much better temperature when you use it. The technique also applies to baby food containers, which I know well! Haha

GadgetViper getting 100 degrees water at altitude is difficult. You would need a pressure cooker as water boils a lot lower the higher the altitude. Using this new accessory could help! I have two of these but I find they don't retain heat too long so, as I enjoy a flat white more than an espresso while in the outdoors, I plan to use them for warm milk storage together with a hand frother and then, most likely a butane cooker for ensuring high water temperature.

@GadgetViper
@GadgetViper 5 лет назад
Kye Dures My Nanopresso always sounds about the same, you can hear it at 6:30 on the video, that's about as wheezy as it gets. I always pump fresh water through the piston by running it under a tap after an extraction, it seems to keep it in good health. Is your Nanopresso noisier than what you hear on the video?

Hey there. Love your vids btw, Im hoping you can make a vid on diff coffee machines review. I ended up buying the nanopresso because of your vid. Also just curious, do you put sugar in your coffee?
@GadgetViper
@GadgetViper 5 лет назад
Years ago I added sugar and milk, then as I started exploring the finer aspects of the coffee I stopped adding both. The only time I have milk and sugar these days is if I'm at a friend's and they make an instant coffee. That's not to say that there is anything wrong with adding sugar or milk if you prefer a sweeter taste. Espresso can sometimes be a little too bitter for some. Have you tried brewing with a V60 pour over before? My local roaster has some beans from Honduras and it brewed so sweetly, you'd think there was sugar in it. I should mention, I have a set of scales with a decimal place ( these - geni.us/hD0OE ) so, I'm able to make weight adjustments finer than 1g.

Hi, Gadget Viper. I have seen many of your videos and quite enjoy, so thanks for making them. I have also seen some recent review of the barista kit and some people have had a negative experience using it. Some people who have purchased the product claim that after some time the water tank has popped off and has burned them. I was wondering if you have had this experience? I was thinking of getting the Barista kit but have held off on purchasing due to the reviews of other people who claimed they got burned. Would you be kind enough to let me know what your experience has been?

nice video! i bought the nanopresso and barista kit - it makes my day :) do you use the nano in pressurized or in non-pressurized mode? i like the coffee in a very fine grind, cause then you get the gist of the beans' flavour, if you know what i mean..;) but i noticed with this very fine grind it makes the pumping quite hard and the coffee sometimes gets out not very hot, even when pre-heated all the parts before.. any advice?
@GadgetViper
@GadgetViper 5 лет назад
I'm in non-pressure mode right now. In a perfect world we'd have a really powdery grind like a high end espresso machine, but I really think the Nanopresso works best with it a tad courser. If you go really fine, I'd definitely try using slightly less coffee, maybe 15g. I prefer 16g with a grind thats one click away on my Hario mill from choking up the extraction. I might see if I can make a little video of my current method, it's so dialled in right now :) thanks for watching.
@MattDillon71
@MattDillon71 5 лет назад
Another great vid! Do you pump the water tank dry or for just a certain amount of espresso?
@GadgetViper
@GadgetViper 5 лет назад
Hi Matt, glad you liked it. It's really important to not push too much water through the grinds, otherwise, you'll drastically change the balance of flavours. The small water tank filled to the brim will make a double shot espresso that weighs around 50-55 grams - That's perfect for me. If you're using the Nanovessel outdoors, you'll need to eyeball it as best you can. I count my pumps, 25 pumps, 25 seconds (1 a second) gets me pretty much there. This will obviously depend on your preparation. If you're looking for a bigger drink, like an Americano, extract the 50-60grams, then add water to it directly. Hope that helps, have a great day.

Thanks for another informative review vid! I'm a massive fan of the nanopresso and barista kit. So do you think the vessel has enough water capacity to preheat two cups and make two double shots?
@GadgetViper
@GadgetViper 5 лет назад
Hi Amy, glad you liked the video, the Nanopresso holds over 200g, I use around 55-60 grams for my double shots, so it should be just enough to also preheat the cups. If you have two cups, you could preheat one cup, then transfer the water to another cup to add some heat to that using the same water. I've been extracting into the standard Nanopresso cup, then tipping it back into the Nanovessel to make a black americano using the remaining water that's left in the Nanovessel, it works perfectly for that :)

Just received a "RU-vid Reply", a first time. I guess this shows my subscription is now working properly? Have you had a chance to try using pure, fresh coconut water yet to brew espresso or other coffee brewing method? It's wonderful. An espresso 'purist' may claim the sweetness of coconut water masks the 'true espresso flavor'. Dunno. But it definitely adds broad floral notes that remind me of the flavor of coffee 'cherries' right off the high altitude trees in Costa Rica where we used to live.

Another (last one, promise): Where can I find the easiest visual-tactile guidelines for the best expresso (or other brewing method) grind? 1Presso Grinder (I like very much), says espresso grind should be like "salt". Really, a slight 'gritty' feel'? As I haven't honed in on the right grind, I've been using Turkish grind, like "fine powder", unable to feel any grittiness. For French Press, supposedly like "granulated salt". Point in the direction toward best tactile-visual guidelines for proper grind? Thanks!
@rusbatmen727
@rusbatmen727 5 лет назад
Hey man! Thanks for another great video. You make such a pretty "mouse tail" when you brew your espresso. I've received my BaristaKit and I can't find the right grind and tempering for the double shot. Can you please help me with it? Should the grinding be more fine or coarse than that one for the singl?
@GadgetViper
@GadgetViper 5 лет назад
Hi Rus, glad you liked the video, the grind should be fairly similar, although it's been a while since I used the single shot basket. If you have a Hario Slim try tightening it all the way then bring it back 5 clicks. If you're using a different mill, start a little coarser, make a coffee, if it extracts well, then make a single adjustment to make it slightly finer for the next one. Keep doing that until the extraction starts to become drippy. At this stage, you can either keep this grind and try reducing the weight by 0.5 grams to reach the sweet spot, or take it back to a slightly coarser grind and keep the weight the same. With regards to the tamp, try and keep it the same so you're not introducing a new variable, Ideally, you want the stainless steel portafilter's face to come down and touch the top of the coffee when you tighten it, so don't tamp lower than about 5mm from the top of the basket otherwise you'll have a gap between the grinds and the portafilter, and that would potentially blow the puck. So a medium-ish tamp that's around 4mm from the top. Hope that helps

Hi, my O-ring seems fine after about 2 years of use, If yours has perished I'd suggest sending Wacaco an email asking about a replacement. With regards to the pump, I did have issues with pressure loss ages ago, I found that pumping hard and fast under the cold tap after each use would keep it clean and in good working order. I think it was gathering small particles from the kettle, it's been fine ever since. Hope that helps, ps. @GadgetViper
@GadgetViper 5 лет назад
OK................. get this. The long case will fit the Nanopresso set up for the NS adapter with room to put the original portafilter in as well. Now, if you were to also add the barista ring, it won't fit. BUT......... looking at the ring part of the NS adapter and the ring part of the Double Shot adapter, they appear identical. (other than the writing) So, you can use the NS adapter ring as the barista double shot ring (assuming you have double shot baskets) so, here's how it fits. You set the Nanopresso up in the NS adapter mode. You store a double shot basket in the small water tank and you also take the original portafilter (without the barista ring). Then, when you want to switch, you use the NS adapter ring (screw it onto the original portafilter) remove the NS portafilter and capsule holder, then add the double shot basket. :) hope that makes sense

GadgetViper thanks very much mate I’ve been racking my brains over this. I travel a lot so wanted one kit where I could use pod or ground in one case. If the rings are the same then to get a double shot I really only need a double basket then , annoyingly it’s £30 for barista kit and all I need is a basket if I understand correctly. Couple questions, please? Even rigorously preheating the Nanopresso with Barrista ring, espresso comes out lukewarm, never HOT. Think the insulated flask does significantly better?
@GadgetViper
@GadgetViper 5 лет назад
Hi Bob, the plastic tank won't be as effective at holding the heat after preheating, but you should still get it relatively hot. What are you extracting into? If it's the plastic cup that comes with the Nanopresso, that could be the major factor for a lukewarm drink. I rarely use the plastic cup, if you've watched my previous Nanopresso videos you'll see I use a double walled espresso glass instead. (Pre heated of course) The Nanovessel will definitely help, but I'd also suggest preheating a double walled drinking cup/glass as well. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching :)

Hi Friend, sorry for the late reply, to be honest, I very rarely pre-prepare my baskets before I leave, I'd usually grind right before using the Nanopresso. Zypherdose actually I bought one and tested it. It doesn't last more than 5 hours in this 32 degree weather. I don't have a thermometer to test water temp with.. this will come later but I know that this morning at 11am first poured it was scalding hot and by 5pm it's still warm but not hot enough for my taste to produce the espresso from the nano vessel. However I still think the nano vessel is a nice add on because it "looks better" it does hold water and keep pressure better than the cup that came with the barista kit or nanopresso itself while making the espresso and that's all its good for. If you want to carry scalding hot water with you for 27hrs plus has a 32oz capacity get the Stanley Master series otherwise this is bullshit. If 32oz is a overkill.. they do make em in 24oz. This will make at least 4 Lungos. You can preheat the cup if you wanted to and more than enough to wash the nanopresso when done.

Most definitely, I don't use the larger water tank that comes with the Barista kit, but the larger basket (16g) and the Barista Ring are essentials for a double shot. If I've access to heat water, I'll use the original small water tank it's perfect for a double shot (50-55g). If I'm going on a short trip and need hot water, I'll take the Nanovessel, it keeps the water hot enough for about 3-4 hours. Hope that helps :)

@@GadgetViper yes thank you! Just one more quick question...do you reckon it's best to get the M or L size case? I'm planning to get also the ns adapter along with the barista kit and nanovessel. You got the large size right?

@@MarcoMarfia yes, I have the large case, a medium will fit the small tank and the Barista ring/be adapter, but if you plan on using the large tank, I'd definitely choose the large case.

Nanopresso vs Handpresso what is the best for you?

Hi Friend, for me it's the Nanopresso+barista kit (i'm a double shot guy) if you're only going to use a single shot, then either one can give you great results. I'd still take the Nanopresso though, it's lighter, more compact and has an integrated cup.

Uuumh......I think I'd just make a flask of coffee before I leave. Temp is crucial and I think it wouldn't stay above 90 for long.

If you were drinking an Americano, that would be fine, but I imagine it would be a problem if you were drinking an espresso due to the small volume of water. 50ml of hot water taken from a 220ml flask isn't too bad temperature-wise after a couple of hours. I usually take a little stove with me if I'm out for a longer trip. You're right though, for Americano's it's a lot easy to make the coffee at home. Thanks for watching.
